Scots Freshman Schedule

Coach Colin Stringer is in his third year of coaching, second year at Highland Park. Coach Stringer is coaching Freshman basketball as well as Freshman football. He is a graduate of HPHS in 2011, before graduating from Baylor University in 2015 with a Bachelor

of Business Administration degree in Finance. He grew up in Highland Park, playing for the football, basketball and track teams in high school.

Coach Barrows is in his tenth year coaching the HP JV Bluebasketball team and nineteenth year teaching at HPISD. He cur-rently teaches AP Physics and has taught for 26 years. He has a BS in Chemistry from the University of Central Missouri and MS in Natural Sciences from Rensselaer

Polytechnic Institute. He was a three-year varsity let-terman at Warrensburg High School in Missouri. Coach Barrows enjoys reading and “looking in the stars”. He is married to Carol and they have a daugh-ter, Emily (23) and a son, Jonathan (17).

Scots Junior Varsity Schedule

Coach Carter Bien is in his fifth year of coaching and teaching in Highland Park. He currently coaches the JV Gold basketball team as well as Varsity Football - Inside Linebackers. Coach Bien teaches 5th and 6th grade PE at MIS. He earned his BS in Sports Management with minors in both Business and Coaching from Texas A&M University. Coach Bien grew up in Springtown, TX where he played HS basketball for Coach Travis Snowden.

Head Coach David Piehler begins his 13th season as head coach of the Scots, 28th year of coaching and 24th as a head varsity coach. At Highland Park he has accumulated an overall record of 293-103 and a district record of 139-30. This is his His overall record as a head coach is 478-255. In his 12 years as head coach of the Scots, Piehler’s teams have won seven district championships. His teams have qualified for the state playoffs 11 times, playing in the Regional Finals (2008), Regional Semi-Finals (2007, 2017), Regional Quarterfinals (2009), Area Finals (2012, 2016, 2018) and Bi-District (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014). At Highland Park, Piehler has been named District Coach of the Year seven times. In 2008 he was a finalist for the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Don Coleman State Coach of the Year award. Prior to coaching the Scots, Piehler served as head coach at Plano West Senior High School from 1999-2006 and Rockwall High School from 1994-1999. He began his coaching career at Clark High School in Plano from 1991-1994. A native Kansan, Piehler graduated from Newton High School in 1979. He led his basketball team to the 1979 state championship and also won the 1979 state doubles tennis championship. In 1994, Piehler was elect-ed to the Newton High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Piehler attended SMU where he played basketball for the Mustangs. He finished his career as the fourth all-time leading scorer in SMU history. In the fall of 1983, Piehler played in five exhibition games for the Dallas Mavericks before being the last player cut prior to the start of the regular season. Piehler was a student teacher at McCulloch Middle School in the spring of 1987 under the guidance of HP legendary coach Kellis White. During this time he met his future wife Mindy on a blind date. Coach Piehler and Mindy have been happily married 29 years and have four children: Matthew (26), Megan (23), Michael (22) and Mitchell (18). Along with his coaching duties, Piehler also teaches Partner’s PE at HPHS.

SCOTS VARSITY COACHES

Coach Travis Snowden graduated from Highland Park High School in 2000 and then attended Baylor University in Waco. He graduated in August of 2005 as a History major, and went on to teach/coach at Springtown High School that same August. Travis married Kelly Elizabeth Bryant on November 11th, 2005. After three years of coaching freshman basket-ball and football, and serv-ing one year as the varsity boys assistant coach as well as head boys golf coach, Travis accepted a position with Highland Park in 2009. Coach Snowden is enjoying his tenth year coaching at Highland Park High School.
