STC Celebrates Connections at Annual Dinner 2017 Annual Report Eleanor Steigman, a longtime advocate for senior mobility, retired from the STC Board and became its first Honorary Lifetime member at the May 17 annual meeting. Mrs. Steigman served on the STC Board of Directors for two terms. In November, the Cleveland Jewish News recognized Mrs. Steigman as one of its “Difference Makers” for her lifelong community service. Sinai Health Care Foundation and its President Mitchell Balk at its annual fundraising dinner, Celebrating Connections. Mr. Balk and the Foundation were instrumental in identifying the need to support senior mobility. This mobilized the philanthropic community to action, founding STC. More than 250 colleagues, family and friends gathered at Landerhaven on October 19. Emcee WKYC-TV anchor Russ Mitchell moderated a panel discussion about the guests of honor, featuring honorary co-chairs Case Western Reserve University President Barbara Snyder, Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish and Mt. Sinai Board Chair Susan Ratner. Albert Ratner and KeyBank Chair & CEO Beth Mooney also co-chaired the event. Proceeds support STC’s vehicle needs. Lead sponsors were The Mt. Sinai Health Care Foundation and The Cleveland Clinic. Event chair was Lois K. Goodman, the previous year’s honoree. STC Plus, the new evening and weekend Senior Transportation Connection service, booked its first passengers in April. STC Executive Director Janice Dzigiel explained, “Our goal is to help people connect to social, recreational and worship opportunities. We encourage people to consider group outings to a movie and dinner, or perhaps a play or shopping. We look forward to exploring new activities and locations with our passengers.” Thanks to a federal grant from the National Aging & Disability Transportation Center, STC Plus offered one free trip to encourage seniors and adults with disabilities to try the new service. The grant also covered marketing materials and some group outings. STC Plus was launched in partnership with the North Olmsted Senior Center, Services for Independent Living, and the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency [NOACA]. During the grant period, STC delivered 548 trips for 138 passengers. Individuals can contact STC directly to arrange for a vehicle that meets their mobility needs, operated by a trained driver. It is a private pay service, which allows the passenger more choices in destination. To learn more, call 216.265.1489.
