NOVAC: BR is partnering up with your library to bring FREE filmmaking summer camps to teens, grades 6-12!
Through the hands-on process of creating a video under the guidance of an experienced local filmmaker, students
will learn the basics of video production, including design, storyboarding, production, post-production, effects and
more. This year, we'll be making films to celebrate the Baton Rouge bicentennial. The final projects from each camp
will premiere at Main Library in the large auditorium on July 27th. Teens may only sign up for one Week-Long
Summer Film Camp.
Mindful Crafts and Movement:
June 17, 10:30
Relax and take a break this Summer with a calming craft and movement class. Learn about Essential Oils and then
put your new knowledge into practice with some light Aromayoga.
CD Scratch Art:
June 21, 3:00 pm What to do with all those old, unused CDs and CD ROMs? Create art out of them! Transforming old technologies
into new works of art is one of the ways you can help to “Build a Better World.”
LEGO® Mindstorms: Day 1
June 28, 3:00 pm
Let’s build a robot! There are several different designs you can make with a LEGO® Mindstorms Kit. Come back
tomorrow to program your robot to run obstacle courses.
LEGO® Mindstorms: Day 2
June 29, 3:00 pm
Program the robot you made yesterday to successfully run obstacle courses.
Front Yard Bikes:
July 6, 3:00 pm
Bike riding is a fun summertime activity and a mode of transportation that helps save the Earth! But what do you
do when the bike breaks down and you don’t have much money? Fix it yourself! Dustin LaFont from Front Yard
Bikes will teach us how to make simple and cheap bike repairs.
Teen Chess Tournament:
July 8, 2:00 pm
Are you a beginning chess player who just learned how all the pieces move? Or are you a chess expert who has
been playing chess your entire life? Players of all skill levels are welcome to participate in Eden Park Branch
Library’s 2nd annual Teen Chess Tournament for some friendly competition. Refreshments will be provided.
Prizes will be awarded.
Do You Know Arduino? Part One:
July 12, 2:30 pm
Have you wanted to try a big Arduino project, but you didn’t have the materials, time, or skills? Over three
meetings, work with other teens to build and program a clock that writes out the time on a dry-erase board. The
process will also include submitting designs to the East Baton Rouge Parish Library’s 3D printer.
Breakout EDU: Time Warp:
July 18, 3:00 pm
You’ve been locked in a room with several other teens. There is only one way out. There is a box in that room
with the way out locked within it. There are several locks. You will have to use the clues and your skills to learn
the combinations to those locks. Hurry up or you will be locked in there forever! Mwahahahaha!
Do You Know Arduino? Part Two:
July 19, 2:30 pm
Use 3D printed pieces and an Arduino to build a clock that writes out the time. This is the 2nd meeting in a 3
meeting project. The project will be completed during the third meeting. Attendance at the other meeting is not
required.
Mindful Crafts and Movement:
July 22, 10:30
Increase awareness, inner peace and mindfulness while making a Mandala. After the craft, do some energizing
and easy yoga stretches and Sun Salutations.
Do You Know Arduino? Part Three:
July 26, 2:30 pm
Complete the Arudino project by programming the clock to write out the time. You will also get the chance to
play around with 3D pens to create your own piece of 3D art.
End of Summer Reading Party!:
July 31, 2:30 pm
Celebrate the end of Summer Reading with a pizza party! Have fun and relax with games, puzzles, crafts, and of
course, pizza!
