Fathers and male figures will be encouraged to leave after the morning activity at 9:00 AM. Fathers that would like to participate in the lunch activity should follow the schedule below. 7:40 AM Donuts for Dads in Library 8:00 AM Significant males arrive to the auditorium for Unity Celebration Welcome by Dr. Starkes and TEAM UMOJA 9:00-9:30 AM DADS remain in the Auditorium for message from Devon Madden and Jordan Morris of Shadow Student Athletes 9:30-10:00 AM DADS complete parent surveys and meet with Community Providers 10:00-11:42 AM Dads shadow their children in the classrooms; Engaging activities for students and their significant males 11:45-12:45 PM Dismissal Over the 2016-2017 school year, Pittsburgh Miller Science grades 4 and 5 in partnership with PA Trout unlimited, PA Fish and Boat Commission, and PA Department of Education’s Environment and Ecology raised brook trout. The fish are a native cold water species that the student’s raised from eggs to fingerlings. Throughout the year, students monitored all stages of brook trout. They tested water conditions and made sure the fish were well fed and healthy. We have come to a point that the 60+ baby trout will be released into the wild. On May 19th, parents and students will release all trout back into the wild at Pine Creek that is located in North Park. There will be an African Libation service conducted by Mr. Chatman from the Pittsburgh Cultural Arts.

8:10am- 8:45am-- Our Fathers will be welcomed by our Sunnyside staff and students and a breakfast social will begin in the morning honoring our fathers. 8:45am- 10:45am-- Our fathers will shadow their child during their son/daughter’s regular classroom schedule. Engaging and hands on activities will take part in each teacher’s classroom to include both students and our fathers. Fathers who have multiple children in different grade levels will have the flexibility to rotate classroom to classroom. Each father will receive an assigned time to attend a small session on the use of technology (iPads, 3D printers and laser cutter) across all curriculums. During the mini session, our fathers will experiment with the software. 10:45am- 11:00am -- Parent Surveys will be distributed and there will be an opportunity for them to be completed. 11:00am-- A drawing will be held to raffle off donated gifts during our closing session.

Pittsburgh Schiller STEAM academy will be welcoming the fathers with a light breakfast while Mrs. Heinzman shares a few words of gratitude. As a team, the fathers and students will complete a Lego Steam Challenge by planning, designing, creating and improving a Lego maze. The fathers will also compete in a basketball game and build a wire sculpture with their child to be hung at Schiller.

Take a Father to School Day at Pittsburgh South Brook What: Take a Father to School Day, where District schools open their doors to welcome thousands of Pittsburgh “fathers” to spend the morning with their student participating in various activities planned at each school. On this day a “father” is any positive male role model in a child’s life: a father, grandfather, cousin, uncle, older sibling, community leader, mentor, minister, etc. The goal of Take a Father to School Day is to bring men into the school building to establish better communications with schools; understand that they are welcomed in schools; explore opportunities for volunteering; and to celebrate school with their child.

Sterrett Take a Father to School Day at Pittsburgh Sterrett
During a Continental Breakfast for our fathers, Dr. MiChele Holly, principal, will welcome our fathers to Pittsburgh Sterrett Classical Academy 6-8. After the Continental Breakfast, fathers will be given a brief overview of the school, academic programs, information on parent involvement, their child’s schedule and will be escorted to the classrooms to observe first period class. Students and their fathers will meet in the gym. At that time Mr. Inesso, Physical Education Teacher, will explain the rule of “King of the Court” basketball challenge. Moreover, T-Shirts and certificates will be given to our fathers for participating in “Take Your Father to School Day.” After the Basketball Challenge, the fathers will enjoy a cook-out luncheon. Once lunch is over, an Award Presentation will take place and dismissal. We sincerely hope that the time our fathers spend here at Pittsburgh Sterrett Classical Academy 6-8 will be happy and pleasant as well as informative and helpful.

Pioneer is welcoming fathers and important role models between 10am and 1pm for Take a Father to School Day. We will welcome our guests to cheer on their child in our Pinewood Derby Day through the Boy Scouts of America. After a catered lunch for our guests and students, our entire school will cheer on our finalists and celebrate the student that takes it all with the fastest car. We will also have a Monster Truck on display in our sensory garden as a backdrop for our Derby pictures. We look forward to the large crowd that this event usually attracts!
