2017 SPLBE-FLEA BOARD EXAMINATION

The 2017 SPLBE-FLEA BOARD EXAMINATION was recently held last September 1 & 2 at Philippine Global School in Abu Dhabi. The Licensure Examination for Architects was a two-day exam and covers the subjects: History and Theory of Architecture, Principles of Planning, Professional Practice, Utilities Systems, Structural Conceptualization, Building Materials and Construction and Architectural Design and Site Planning. The Chapter President Ar. Jaime Tasarra Jr. with the BOD officers and mentors, were there during the two-day exam to give support and encouragement to the aspirants. Batch Mentors Aquil have prepared the 80 plus aspirants for SPLBE 2017 for a period of 6 months prior to the day of examination. We wish the 2017 SPLBE_FLEA batch Good luck!

Reason and Emotion through Sustainability Presented by: Fernando Menis Date: Saturday, 9 Sept 2017 Time: 2:00 - 4:30 PM Venue: D3 Dubai Design District, Mirage Project Point - Building 5, Office B101 Fernando Menis is a Spanish Architect, graduated from the Barcelona Institute of Architecture, who also serves as Chairman of the Laboratory for Innovation in Architecture, Design and Advanced Tourism of Tenerife and as a Professor of the EUC (European University of the Canary Islands) and, occasionally, as a guest speaker at International Congresses of Architecture and Universities (such as Harvard, Technical University of Berlin, Columbia University and École Spéciale d'Architecture). Fernando Menis designs are characterized by being sustainable and adaptable, representing low cost projects combining the natural elements of the urban landscape with architecture. The talk will review the work of Menis architects trough the lenses of sustainability and the intimate relationship with the landscape. Fernando Menis combines a wide range of approaches from large scale buildings -like the Torun's Opera House- to landscape design and small scale interventions. An architectural work which could be defined by intensity and expressiveness: Reason and Emotion, working together in a perfect balance. An intuitive approach to design with a highly technical research from the point of view of the construction technology, materiality and sustainability in all aspects of his work. As part of his projects and research in the region, he has designed a Geyser for the Mleiha Desert in Sharjah as part of his ongoing research on Hatching: The Origins of Life.

The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) was established in January 1992 to promote the development and growth of the Malaysian timber industry.

Its primary functions are, among others, to promote the Malaysian timber trade and develop the market for timber products globally; promote the development of the timber industry by expanding the industry’s manufacturing technology base.

UAP-Dubai Chapter and The Philippine Consular Office in Dubai held a meeting for a joint Project Collaboration to serve Filipinos in the Emirates.The meeting with the Vice Consul Hon. Elizabeth Ramos has been planned for a long time and only that a possible collaboration would be schedule. The meeting was also attended by a PAG IBIG representative in regards to Filipinos in Dubai whose primary aim in going abroad is to have their own home. The meeting was indeed successful as the vice consul will look into their COA for a possible schedule for theUAP_Dubai Chapter project.

The 1st GMM of UAP-Dubai Chapter was held last September 15, 2017 at Burjuman Arjaan Rotana Hotel. The meeting starts with the usual program of Introduction, entrance of the Executive Committee, the National anthem, the UAP March, UAP Credo and Invocation. The event continues with the President’s Report, the Treasurer’s Report and the Committee & Operational Report. An update of the Calendar of Events was presented and the CPD Seminars was discussed and announced. A small discussion on UAP_Dubai in the application at DAC was mentioned and other matters on the agenda. MAESTRO OF ARCHITECTURE SERIES with ARCHITET CARLOS OTT: Carlos Ott (born October 16, 1946, in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan architect who resides in Canada and many other countries. He became famous when he won his first prize in 1983 (among 744 architects from all over the world) for the construction of the Opéra de la Bastille in Paris, which was inaugurated on July 14, 1989 (bicentennial of the French Revolution). He has offices in Toronto, Quebec, Shanghai, Dubai and Montevideo[1]
