CREW SC’S GERMAN TIESDespite playing in Major League Soccer, Crew SC has several ties to Ger-man soccer, as four players on the Black & Gold current roster have spent some time in Germany. Norwegian forward Ola Kamara spent the second half of the 2012-2013 season playing for 1860 Munich. Meanwhile, Finnish defender Jukka Raitala played for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim from 2009-2011 and for SC Paderborn 07 in 2011. But it’s not just European players who have connections to the Bundesliga, as both goalkeeper Zack Steffen and midfielder Abuchi Obinwa also spent some time in Germany. Steffen was with SC Freiburg from 2015-2016 while Obinwa spent the 2014-2015 and the 2015-2016 season with Hannover 96. Crew SC’s coaching personnel also have some German ties, as Sporting Director and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter was with Energie Cottbus from 2002-2006 and with 1860 Munich from 2006-2009, while Assistant Coach Josh Wolff was with 1860 Munich from 2006-2008.
