MD YEAR 1 ORIENTATION WEEK PROGRAM 2017Attendance at all UQ Medicine sessions held during this Orientation Week is compulsory.

Monday 30 JanuaryLocation: GHD Auditorium, Advanced Engineering Building, Building 49, St Lucia CampusThis event will include a stethoscope ceremony to mark your entry into the UQ MD Program. We ask that you please bring your own stethoscope with you on the day. Additionally, your admission to the MD will be marked with a full cohort reading of the Declaration of Geneva, found below.

12pm to 1:30pm Arrival, Registration and Light Refreshments

1:30pm Welcome to Country

1:40pm Welcome to The University of Queensland Professor Aidan Byrne, Provost

1:45pm Welcome to UQ Medicine Professor Robyn Ward, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Acting Executive Dean

1:50pm Introduction to the new Medical Dean Professor Stuart Carney, Dean of Medicine

1:55pm What to Expect from the MD Program Professor Darrell Crawford, Head, School of Clinical Medicine

2:05pm to 2:15pm Stretch Break

2:15pm to 2:45pm Life as a Medical Student Mr David McEniery, President, The University of Queensland Medical Society (UQMS)

2:45pm to 3:15pm Life After Graduation Dr Richard Ashby, AM, Chief Executive, Metro South Hospital and Health Service and MBBS 1976

3:15pm to 3:25pm“Stethoscope Ceremony”Reading of the Declaration of Geneva Led by Emeritus Professor John Pearn, AO

DECLARATION OF GENEVA

At the time of being admitted as a member of the medical profession:I solemnly pledge to consecrate my life to the service of humanity;

I will give to my teachers the respect and gratitude that is their due;

The health of my patient will be my first consideration;

I make these promises solemnly, freely and upon my honour
