2017 Lancashire Girls’ Golf Association News Course Management and Florida Scramble Published: 12 March 2017 The playing season started for our players with club or no handicap with a very enjoyable day at Southport Golf Academy when they walked the course with PGA Resident Professional James Carpenter. he advised the girls as to how best to play in the Florida Scramble that followed after lunch. Our 'Senior Players' Grace, Emily, Jenny and Sadie made excellent team captains with all the scores being very close. Jenny playing with Holly and Olivia (making her debut with LGGA) were the winners. 2017 Opening 9/18 hole competition at Hart Common The 2017 competitions for our LGGA members without a Congu handicap have started on Hart Common GC's 9 hole par 3 course in warm and sunny weather. We were pleased to welcome back our now 'Senior' players and the new girls playing there for the first time. Sadie Adams won the 18 hole competition with 58 stableford points, just 2 ahead of the joint runners-up Emily Halstead and Jennifer Murphy. Lucy Martin's 31 points was the best score in the 9 hole competition with Gabriella Schofield and Lili Bracken being the joint runners-up. The winner was Hannah Scott (Haydock Park) with an excellent stableford score of 54 points. Abigail Shorrock (Myerscough) was second with 47 points, just one better than Emily Halstead (Rochdale). Thea Jones (Hesketh) making her debut with the LGGA scored 42 points. Holly Hargreaves (Clitheroe) was the only other player to beat par with 37 points. Hart Common GC's 9 hole par 3 course in warm and sunny weather. We were pleased to

welcome back our now 'Senior' players and the new girls playing there for the first time.

Sadie Adams won the 18 hole competition with 58 stableford points, just 2 ahead of the joint

runners-up Emily Halstead and Jennifer Murphy.

Lucy Martin's 31 points was the best score in the 9 hole competition with Gabriella Schofield

and Lili Bracken being the joint runners-up.

Card Marking Day at Southport Golf Academy The first 2017 Card Marking Day took place at Southport Golf Academy

with many of the competitors, aged from 7 upwards, playing 18 holes for the

first time.

Spring Meeting Trophy Presentation LGGA Trophy Winners for 2016 Published: 29 April 2017

The Presentation of the Trophies for the 2016 LGGA Competitions took place at the Spring Meeting when the Immediate Past County Captain Mrs Jennifer Adams presented the following girls with their trophies for the 3 best aggregate scores during the year. Gross Trophy Winner: Lauren Green (West Lancashire). Nett Trophy Winner: Maddie Raine. Stableford Trophy Winner: Holly Stephenson (Accrington). Handicap Reduction Trophy: Megan Williams (Lancaster).

Junior Colours for 3 singles wins (Accumulative): Eva Brunskill, Boh Greenwood, Emily James, Maddie Raine, Carina-May Teirney and Heide Wellman. Graduation Certificates for girls who have obtained a Congu Handicap during the year:

Melissa Ball, Sophia McGhie, Martha Hodgson, Jessica Pindar and Zara Wartnaby.

Second 2017 9/18 hole Competition at Hart Common

The second competition at Hart Common GC's Par 3 course for our LGGA members without a Congu handicap was

enjoyed by all the

competitors playing again in warm and sunny

weather.

The 18 hole competition winner was 9 year old Lily

Rogers with 52 stableford points, closely followed by

Gabriella Duckworth with 49 points.

The 9 hole competition was won by Maggie

Chadwick with 33 points. Ruby Molloy playing for

the first time was second with 29 points.

Lancashire's Junior Team beat Cheshire Published: 22 May 2017

The Lancashire Junior team beat Cheshire Girls' by 5.5 matches to 2.5 in their annual match played this year at West

Derby GC. Their new 'Kit' proved to be very popular with them all.

Lancashire Schools' Championships Published: 23 May 2017

The Lancashire Schools' Championship was played at Lancaster GC on 27 April. The Girls' Gross winner was Hollie Muse with 77 followed by Lauren Green who scored 80. The Nett winner was Leah Butler with an excellent score of 91-25-66. Hollie Crabtree was in second place with 90-20-70. CSS 74.

The Lancashire Schools' Under 15s Championship was played at Blackburn GC on 08 May. The Girls' Gross winner was Emily James with 80 just one shot ahead of Boh Greenwood. The Nett winner was Lucy Moss with a great score of 100-33-67. Hollie Crabtree took second place again with 90-19-71. The CSS 73.

Lancashire Championship Published: 01 June 2017

Congratulations to our junior players who entered the Lancashire Ladies' Championship played at Bolton Golf Club.A special mention to the girls who qualified for the main Championship, the Flight 2 Plate and won Nett Prizes on the qualifying day.

Carina-May wins Chronicle Cup Published: 06 June 2017 Carina-May Teirney (Crompton & Royton) won the Oldham and District Chronicle Cup played at Brookdale GC with a score of 71-9-62.

England Schools News Published: 20 June 2017

Boh Greenwood (Westholme School,Blackburn) won a place in the England Schools' Golf

Association Girls' National Championship when she finished 3rd in their North of England

Championship at Whickham Golf club, County Durham. Her second round score of 71 set a

new course record.

Boh, our recent Anniversary Competition winner, will play in the National Championship on

Monday 26 June at The Kendleshire Golf Club, Avon.

Hole in One for Emily Published: 02 July 2017

Emily McMurran Doyal, a junior member at Ellesmere GC made an amazing start to her first ever

Lancashire Girls' competition when she aced the first hole on Hart Common's Par 3 course. She went on to

win the 18 hole competition as well.

Third 2017 9/18 hole Competition at Hart Common

We were pleased to welcome 7 new girls as well as our 'Regulars' to our third competition at Hart

Common GC's Par 3

course for our LGGA competition for members without a

Congu handicap. The weather was good, unlike a month ago

when we had to cancelled the June competition due to

torrential rain. EmilyMcMurran-Doyal got off to an amazing

start in her first LGGA event when she had a hole in one on the

first with a lovely shot that bounced just short of the green and

ran on into the hole. She went on to win the 18 hole

competition - a day to remember for her! 'Emily' was definitely the name of the day with Emily Colbourne

being the 9 hole competition winner.

Hollie for England again Published: 28 July 2017

Hollie Muse (West Lancashire) has been chosen by England Golf to be a member of their Girls' team to play

in the Home Internationals against Scotland, Ireland and Wales from 9-11th August at Little Aston GC,

Birmingham.

LLCGA Junior Championship 09 July 2017

Maddie Raine (Harwood) won the 2017 Junior Championship when she birdied

the first hole of the sudden death play-off against Lauren Green (West

Lancashire) after they had tied with a 36 hole total of 155 gross. This was the

first play-off since 1974, watched by the rest of the competitors , parents and

officials in glorious sunshine.

As Junior Champion Maddie can play in England Golf's Junior Champion of

Champion's competition at Woodhall Spa in September. She was also the Daily

Telegraph Junior Golfer of the Year winner from this event.

The Nett Aggregate prize went to Grace Evans (Fleetwood). Het total of 140 was helped by an excellent afternoon

round of 67 nett. Courtney Willis (Leyland) was just one shot behind her.

Bethany Griffiths (Lee Park) continued on her winning ways with 42 stableford points. This was only one point more

than Molly Bridge (Wigan). Emily Halstead (Rochdale) was third with 40 points

St Andrews Junior Ladies Golf Week Published: 03 August 2017

Lancashire players performed very well in the St Andrews Junior Ladies' Golf Week Golf

Monthly Trophy. Eloise Healey (West Lancashire), Katie-Jane Stanley (Manchester) and

Molly McIntosh (Formby Ladies') finished in the top 8 to proceed to the match play stages.

Molly lost narrowly in the quarter finals. Eloise and Katie-Jane progressed to the play each

other in the semi-finals on the Old Course. Eloise won this match but lost by 2/1 in the Final

to Scotland's Jennifer Saxton (Murcar).

Junior Jamboree Published: 03 August 2017

At Carlisle GC Lancashire's Junior Jamboree team were 1 point ahead of Yorkshire

after the first day's Stableford competition with

Chloe Murray and Megan Williams both winning prizes with

their unbeaten 42 points.

Heavy rain reduced the second day matches to 9 holes when Yorkshire overtook

Lancashire with 42 points to our 39 to take the trophy by 2 points.

Lancashire Team: Leah Butler (Formby Ladies'), Liyana Laheri (Pleasington),

Lucy Moss (Bentham), Chloe Murray (Hillside), Jessie Nelligan (The Lodge),

Megan Williams (Lancaster).

Results:

Yorkshire 70 points, Lancashire 68, Northumberland 60, Cumbria 59, Durham 58, Cheshire 48.

Abraham Trophy Final +England Girls' U16 &14s Published: 07 August 2017

For the second year running Emily James (Royal Lytham & St Annes) won a place in the England Golf Abraham Trophy Final at Blackmoor GC, Hampshire when 22 girlsplayed an 18 hole stroke play competition to find England's most improved girl golfer on the basis of handicap reduction. Emily scored an excellent 70 nett (-2) to tie for 3rd place. At the Presentation she received her Area Winner's Trophy. The Abraham Trophy is special to Lancashire players as it was given in memory of Mrs Doris Abraham of Formby Ladies' GC, a former LLCGA President and Captain who always encouraged girl golfers. This is now followed by the England Golf Under 16s and 14s Championships on the same course. Lancashire girls taking part. LGGA Millennium Trophy Preston Golf Club CSS 73 SSS 73

13 August 2017

Chloe Murray (Hillside) won the Millennium Trophy for the second consecutive

year with an excellent Stableford score of 46 points at Preston GC. Niamh Moss

(Haydock Park) took second place with 41 points. Jessica Picton (Hart Common)

was third with 38 points after a card play off with Leah Butler (Formby Ladies')

who started with a birdie 2.

2s were also scored by Amy Fletcher (Preston), Liyana Laheri (Pleasington) and

Jessica Parker (Kirkby Lonsdale).

Other leading scores: 36 points Emily Halstead (Rochdale), 35 points Amy Fletcher and Claudia Hastings (Royal Birkdale).

Second Card Marking Day 20 August 2017

The second 2017 Card Marking Day was played as a Stableford competition on Royal

Lytham's Short Course.

There were plenty of good shots including one of Emily

McMurran-Doyle's that stayed up a tree.

The prize winners produced some excellent scores .

Hole in One for Sophia Published: 24 August 2017

10 year old Sophia McGhie went with the lady members from

Lancaster Golf Club for their Exchange Day to Hillside Golf Club

and gave them all a surprise when she holed in one at the 16th

hole. This helped her team to win as well!

Regional Training Squads Fun Day 23 August 2017

Girls who have attended our Regional Training were treated to a Fun Day at Leyland Golf Club. In the morning there

was a training session on the Driving Range with PGA Professional Colin Burgess. After sandwiches and chips for

Lunch we had 9 hole and 4 hole Stableford competitions on their shortened Academy

Course. The day ended with the Leyland Lady Captain attending the Prize Presentation at 4pm.

Results:9 Hole Competition

Winner: Sophia Cruickshank 34 points. Runner-Up: Naomi Wood.

4 Hole Competition

Winner: Maya Pickford 11 points. Runner-Up: Francesca Harnet 9

points.

LLCGA would like to thank Neil Hodgson for his help and Leyland Golf Club for hosting this enjoyable event again.

Junior Match v Northumberland Published: 30 August 2017

A Lancashire Junior Team travelled to Allendale GC (a 'halfway' venue) to play against the Northumberland Girls'.

They were only able to bring 6 girls so the last 2 matches consisted of 2 Lancashire girls playing a foursome against

one Norhumberland girl. It was agreed that these matches would count as halved. In the 4 singles matches Northumberland and Lancashire each won 2 to give an overall score of 3 matches each and a halved match.

Wee Wonders Grand Final Published: 30 August 2017

Lancashire Girls' were well represented at the Wee wonders Grand Final at St Andrews. Grace

Evans and Leah Butler played in the Girls' 11-12 age group.

They played 3 rounds of 18 holes on the Strathtyrum course

while Sadie Adams and Sophia McGhie played 3 rounds of 9

holes on the Balgrove course. Grace, Sadie and Sophia had

won their place in the Final by their successes in the earlier

rounds. Leah qualified on her 2016 scores. Local Qualifying Rounds will start

again in April 2018.

Fourth 9/18 hole Competition at Hart Common Par 3 3 September 2017

The competitors had to fight wind and drizzle in the fourth and last 2017 9 or 18 hole

stableford competitions at Hart Common Par 3

course. This did not stop the girls producing some excellent scores.

9 Hole Competition

Winner: Gracie Cutting 29 points. Second: Gabriella Schofield. Third: Francesca

Harnet.

18 Hole Competition Winner: Holly Hargreaves 57 points.

Second: Emily Colebourne. Third Equal:

Daisy Lee & Holly Durnian.

LGGA Autumn Meeting 24 September 2017

Silver Division Stroke Play Competition. CSS 75 SSS 74

Boh Greenwood (Royal Birkdale) won her second 2017 LGGA competition when she scored an

excellent 80-7-73 nett in the Autumn Meeting at Hesketh GC. This was just one shot better than

Macy McKinley (Morecambe) with 89-15-74 beating Emily James (Royal Lytham) on a card

play-off. Emily's score of 82-8-74 was helped by an eagle 2 on the 333 yards 8th hole.

Bronze Division Stableford Competition. CSS 73 SSS 74

Bryony Evans completed a double for Royal Birkdale with a winning score of 42 points. Jessica

Pindar (Eccleston Park) was second with 38

points. Martha Hodgson (Leyland) finished in

third place with 36 points.

Lancashire s Boys v Girls match Published: 11 September 2017

The annual Lancashire Boys' v Girls' County Junior match, played for the trophy given

by LLCGA Life Member Ann Irvin MBE and the late Mr Tom Schofield from

Greenmount GC, was held this year at Formby Ladies' Golf Club. The strong Girls' team

got off to a great start in the morning by winning the first 3 matches and halving the last

one to lead by 3.5 - 0.5 at lunch time. They were in the same fine form in the afternoon

singles with Lauren Green (West Lancashire), playing in her last junior match, putting

the first point on the board. 3 more wins and 2 halves followed to give a final winning

total of 8.5 matches to 3.5 and ensure that the trophy returns to the Girls' team.

Family Greensomes 08 October

Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club again allowed the Lancashire Girls' Family Greensomes to be played on their

excellent 9 hole Short Course. A full field of girls with dads, mothers, brothers etc as their partners played some

excellent golf to produce some amazingly low scores on a pleasant October day. Liyana and Imtiaz Laheri

(Pleasington) were the winners with Grange Park's Melissa and

Stephen Ball finishing insecond place.

This is the last event on the junior calendar for 2017. A 'Thank

you' Presentation was made to CJO Sue Griffiths for her

organisation of junior events during the year and to Liz

Robinson who is finishing as Hart Common Organiser after

many years. She will become LLCGA Vice Captain in 2018 and County Captain the following year.
