NRG Gladstone Power Station operates and maintains the 1680MW Gladstone Power Station on behalf of the Joint Venture Participants. The power station is a world class coal fired facility providing safe, reliable, power to local industry and the Queensland electricity grid.

Our ongoing commitment to being an employer of choice means there are always exciting employment opportunities on offer such as apprenticeships and traineeships. An example of this is the employment of our business trainee, university vacation and co-op students as well as four new apprentices.

Our apprentices kick-started their working careers with NRG on 30 January 2017. The new apprentices include two Engineering Mechanical Trade (Maintenance - Fitting and/or Turning), one Electrician and one Electrician/Electronic Instrument Tradesperson (dual apprenticeship). The apprentices' initial training will focus on ensuring they have a basic level of skills with a focus on safe work practices. This provides a lead into further skills development via on-the-job training in NRG's maintenance workgroups.

NRG remains committed to providing opportunities for the region's youth by offering apprenticeship training and these four new apprentices will be provided with a fabulous opportunity to develop their skills in a very supportive and diverse work environment.

In March 2017 QAL, one of Gladstone’s largest employers and the 4th largest Alumina refinery in the world, celebrated 50 years of operation. Each year we advertise and recruit apprentices, from the Gladstone region, in fields including Fitting/Turning, Boiler making / Fabrication, and Electrical / Instrumentation.Apprenticeships range from 4 to 5 years depending on discipline.

At QAL, non – trade based operations roles are offered the opportunity to complete Certificate III Process Plant Operations through in-house training. This nationally accredited course delivers a wide variety of training opportunities throughout QAL process areas in the fields of Refining processes, Chemical handling and Plant Machinery operations.

We also offer traineeship opportunities within our Boiler house team for Boiler house operations, these traineeships are for 2 years and allows the trainee to obtain Nationally accredited boiler High Risk Work licences as well as valuable experience in the operation of steam generated boilers.

Conservation Volunteers Australia inspires change by connecting people with nature. We attract and manage volunteers to participate in projects that protect and enhance the environment. Conservation Volunteers teams include local and international volunteers from a wide range of ages and different backgrounds. They are managed by a Conservation Volunteers team leader who is qualified to ensure the safety and welfare of our volunteers. Normally in groups of between 6 and 10 people, our teams often travel together from one of our many offices

CVA has managed the involvement of over 20,000 students in a range of Government initiatives for youth development and environmental training. These programs provide young people with not only the opportunity to volunteer their time to conserve, preserve and restore our natural environment and cultural heritage, but also benefit from accredited training.

91.9 Fresh FM is Gladstone’s listener supported community radio station that has been servicing the Gladstone Region for over 22 years. The radio station offers an alternative with music and content that is safe for the entire family.
