to researchers, entrepreneurs, universities and businesses. Amongst them, you

will find a brand new Funding database allowing you to search for the funding

programme you need for your mobility or research cooperation project. Funding

organisations can publish their funding opportunities and scholarships in it to

increase their visibility and reach the best candidates worldwide.

We will continue publishing a compilation of open calls to fund researchers'

mobility and cooperation with European teams in the coming months to help

you identify these opportunities easily. Nevertheless, the frequency may be

EMBO Installation Grants (Czech Republic, Estonia,

Poland, Portugal, Turkey or Lithuania) - Incoming

EMBO Installation Grants support early-career scientists establishing independent laboratories in one of five participating EMBC Member States that fund their respective grantees. At present, Installation Grant applications are accepted annually by the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland, Portugal, Turkey and Lithuania with the aim of strengthening the life sciences in these countries.

Installation Grantees are selected annually on the basis of high-quality research, and, together with the EMBO Young Investigators, form a prestigious network of Europe’s up-and-coming life scientists. ELIGIBILITY Have spent at least two consecutive years outside the country in which they are planning to establish their laboratory in the four years prior to application. Have received their PhD less than 9 years prior to application

FUNDING

EMBO Installation Grantees receive an annual grant of 50,000 euros for three to five years. They can also apply for additional small grants of up to 10,000 euros per year.

Grants & Fellowships

1European Union

Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 is the EU funding programme for research and innovation running from 2014 to 2020 with a €80 billion budget. H2020 supports SMEs with a new instrument that runs throughout various funded research and innovation fields, enhances EU international research and Third Country participation, attaches high importance to integrate social sciences and humanities encourages to develop a gender dimension in project.

Horizon 2020 offers a large variety of funding opportunities for research and innovation activities through calls for proposals that are set out in the Horizon 2020 work programme. Access all open calls on the Horizon 2020 Participant

Portal.

The European Commission published an overview of international cooperation opportunities in the H2020 work programme 2016-2017,

including a list of calls targeting Brazil. The list can be found here.

The Brazilian National Council of State Funding Agencies (CONFAP) listed potential calls of interest for EU-Brazil cooperation in order to encourage the participation of Brazilian researchers under Horizon 2020 calls. Some of them are currently open in diverse areas.

Several FAPs (FAPESP, FAPESC, FAPEG, FAPEMIG, FAPDF, FAPES, Fundação Araucária, FUNDECT) expressed interest in funding researchers from their states to support their participation in H2020 calls and published guidelines with instructions to this end.

EURAXESS Jobs

There are currently around 7400 research jobs (all over Europe, but also in

other countries such as in Brazil and in all disciplines) announced on

the EURAXESS Jobs database. Opportunities can be viewed by country,

level of seniority, field or research or via free text searches.

Please note that these jobs also include doctoral positions, including those

funded by the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA – ITN) and by the

European Research Council (ERC).

Marie Sk łodows k a -Curie Individual Fellowships (IF)- call due on 11 April 2017.

IF aims at supporting the international mobility of researchers within (European Fellowships) and beyond Europe (Global Fellowships) as well as helping to attract the best foreign researchers to work in the EU. The grant usually covers two years' salary, a mobility allowance, research costs and overheads for the host institution.

WHO? experienced researchers of any nationality, i.e. researchers

holding a doctoral degree or at least four years’ full-time research experience by the time of the call deadline.

Individual researchers submit proposals for funding in liaison with their planned host organisation. Proposals are judged on their research quality, the researcher's future career prospects, and the support offered by the host organisation.

AUSTRIA – JESH Joint Excellence in Science and

Humanities (Incoming, short term)

The purpose of the stimulation program "Joint Excellence in Science and Humanities" of the Austrian Academy of Sciences is to offer scientists the opportunity to establish international contacts at the highest level without any restrictions concerning research fields. Based on mutual cooperation with partners worldwide the stimulation programme shall enable the participating scientists to develop their own scientific programs and to submit competitive applications for internationally recognised grants through the connection with an outstanding Austrian research group or to individual researchers.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to scientists who completed their PhD / doctoral degree within the last 10 years.

Eligible Austrian institutions are all OeAW research units and institutes of Austrian public universities. DURATION

Research visits in Austria between a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 6 months can be financed. Deadline: 28 Abril 2017

DENMARK - Joint applications for Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship positions in Finance (Odense) (Incoming)

The department of Business and Economics of the University of Southern Denmark is looking for excellent and highly motivated researchers at post- doctoral level to submit joint projects under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships action. If successful, the project will lead to a Marie Sklodowska-Curie post-doctoral position at the university for 2 years.

Accepted fellows will be joining the Finance Group and will be working on the group’s focus area Dynamic Corporate Finance. The focus area is a broad research project potentially involving several finance disciplines such as corporate finance, asset pricing, financial intermediation, credit risk, valuation, and asset allocation. The project welcomes interdisciplinary collaboration with accounting and core economic disciplines (microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics) as well as mathematics and statistics, (e.g., stochastic control theory), and computer science.

ELIGIBILITY

Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship requirements. Candidates can be of any nationality, must hold a PhD degree or have at least four years of full- time equivalent research experience, and must not have worked or lived in Denmark for the last 36 months at application time. Required working language: English.

DENMARK - Danish Council of Independent Research Call for proposals Various grants granted for post-docs and research in the following fields : Medical Sciences, Social Sciences, Technology and Production Sciences, Humanities, Natural Sciences

FRANCE – AXA Post-Doctoral Fellowships and Chairs

The AXA Research Fund supports basic science dedicated to a better understanding of global risks related to: Environmental risks, Life risks, Socio-economic risks, “The Fourth Industrial Revolution”.

AXA Post-Doctoral Fellowships:

FUNDING & DURATION

In 2017 the AXA Research Fund will be offerling up to 25 Post- Doctoral Fellowships to outstanding researchers. Each grant can be up to €130,000 at most and for a duration of 18 – 24 month period. To that end, the AXA Research Fund implements two bottom-up calls for applications addressed to the research institutions registered in the AXA Research Fund database and willing to host Post-Doctoral Fellowship candidates.

It is the Institution’s remit to identify the best possible candidates to participate in the Post-Doctoral Fellowships campaign. Candidates will subsequently be expected to submit an application presenting their research project, to be carried out in the host institution that nominated them.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

- candidates without a permanent academic position

- with past, present or planned international mobility

- having a first PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) awarded before the beginning of the Post-Doctoral grant and within the 3 years preceding the deadline for the submission of their research proposal (eligibility period may be extended up to 6 years in the event of documented career breaks, please see the Application Guidelines:).

AXA Chair:

The AXA Chair scheme is intended to support a significant step change in the development of a Research area within a host Institution and to contribute in a distinctive way to the development of that Research area in line with the Institution’s long term strategy. It aims at creating a full-time academic position in the host Institution and fostering a step-change in the career of the appointed AXA Professor.

FUNDING

In 2017, the AXA Research Fund dedicates up to 5 million euros to support 4 to 6 Chairs. An AXA Chair is supported through a single endowment payment.

DURATION

The duration of the scheme is the prerogative of the Institution and may range from 5 to 15 years.

The AXA Research Fund requires a specific Candidate (inaugural Candidate for Successional Chairs) to be presented, and the Candidate commits to take up the position, if awarded. Once the Institution enters into an agreement with the AXA Research Fund, it is expected to invest the lump sum and use the resulting income towards the costs of the Chair.

FRANCE (Institut Pasteur) – Calmette and Yersin

Doctoral Programme Calmette and Yersin

The Institut Pasteur International Division funds researchers each year to promote and facilitate the realisation of their PhD in an institute within the Institut Pasteur International Network (RIIP), except metropolitan France. Areas may include all themes developed in the laboratories of the RIIP.

Application deadline: 31 May 2017.

Postdoctoral Grants Calmette and Yersin - Institute Pasteur International

Network

Each year the Institut Pasteur Department of International Affairs allocates funding to promote and aid completion of postdoctoral internships for both French and foreign scientists in institutes of the Institut Pasteur International Network located outside mainland France.

Any subject covered by RIIP institute laboratories: research into infectious diseases (infectious physiopathology, immunology, microbiology, epidemiology, virology, parasitology) and public health activities (diagnosis, monitoring, resistance, etc.).

ELIGIBILITY

Open to all nationalities

These postdoctoral grants aim to promote mobility with the arrival in a new environment. The postdoctoral traineeship is therefore conducted in an institution where the candidate does not yet work, outside the home country and outside the country in which the person attended university.

The candidate must have a PhD. Applicants who have already begun their postdoctoral traineeship may not apply.

DURATION 2 years

FUNDING

Fixed-term local contract with social charges covering living expenses and insurance (net amount of B1,900 per month) and a return air ticket between the country of origin and traineeship location.

WHAT? Traineeship Grants, funded by the Department of International Affairs, designed to facilitate mobility within the Institut Pasteur International Network (RIIP) and to promote and facilitate traineeships at Institut Pasteur in Paris or in a RIIP member institute

WHO? The candidate may be a student (currently studying for a 5-year post- graduate degree or a doctorate in medicine, the sciences (veterinary or other), and/or pharm) and/or a technician/engineer and/or tenured researcher.

Deadline: 15 April 2017

GERMANY - Doctoral scholarships from the

Friedrich Naumann Foundation (Incoming)

Scholarships for socially engaged doctoral students provided by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, a foundation closely affiliated to Germany’s Free Democratic Party (FDP). Applications are welcome from doctoral students of any nationality, in all disciplines and of any age.

ELIGIBILITY

- non-German citizenship

- unconditional university admission

- full-time PhD in Germany at a state or state-recognised university

- academic project of considerable relevance to research

- knowledge of German

FUNDING

Scholarship holders receive a maximum stipend of 1,000 euros per month. In addition, a health insurance subsidy of up to 125 euros per month will be granted.

DURATION

The scholarship is initially approved for a one-year period, and can be extended by one further year upon application.

Applications can only be submitted online.

The Humboldt Foundation

is valued at €250,000.

GERMANY - Anneliese Maier Research Award

Nominations for the research award can be made for researchers from abroad from the fields of the humanities and social sciences whose scientific achievements have been internationally recognised in their research area and from whose research collaboration with specialist colleagues in Germany a sustainable contribution is expected towards the further internationalisation of the humanities and social sciences in Germany.

In addition to researchers who already number among the established leaders in their subject, the award is also aimed at researchers who are not yet so advanced in their scientific careers but who are already internationally established researchers from whom a sustainable shaping of the humanities and social sciences in Germany can be expected through the prospects of long- term collaboration. Particular importance is attached to the nomination of qualified female researchers.

Award winners are expected to spend a period of up to five years cooperating on a long-term research project with the nominator and / or specialist colleagues at a research institution in Germany.

ELIGIBILITY

- proof of internationally recognised academic achievement

- at the time of nomination, the nominee must have spent at least five years living and working abroad

- no permanent employment contract as yet in Germany

FUNDING For a period of up to five years, award-winners can pursue collaborative research projects of their own choice with the nominator and/or specialist colleagues in Germany. The award is endowed with 250,000 euros.

Nominations are submitted online by academics in Germany.

GERMANY - German Chancellor Fellowships for

tomorrow's Leaders

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers prospective leaders from Brazil, China, India, Russia and the USA the opportunity to conduct a project as guests of the partner of their choice in Germany.

With the support of their hosts, fellows can spend a year concentrating on a project they have chosen themselves and give their career a boost. German Chancellor Fellowships are open to an array of sectors such as politics, economics, the media, administration and culture.

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) and partners are looking for highly talented science journalists at the beginning of their careers, wanting to be part of Berlin’s science and research scene for a period of two months. The Journalist-in-Residence Programme offers ideal conditions to expand professional networks and to establish contacts with Berlin’s top-level research institutions, scientists and science communicators in the area.

ELIGIBILITY

- Residency in one of the following countries: Brazil, USA, Singapore

- An outstanding CV and excellent work contacts in home country

- The time and commitment to work and live in Berlin for a period of two months (October and November 2017)

- High motivation and openness to discover the Berlin science community

GERMANY - Max Planck Institute PhD position for 3 years in a DFG-funded project (Incoming)

The Modulation of Language Networks Group at the Department of Neuropsychology at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, Leipzig, Germany (MPI-CBS) offers a PhD position for 3 years in a DFG-funded project entitled: "Investigating the right and left temporo-parietal junction by system plasticity after virtual lesions".

ELIGIBILITY

The candidate must hold a master’s degree (or equivalent) in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field. She / he is expected to be a talented, enthusiastic, willing-to-learn researcher. The successful candidate will have a profound background in experimental psychology, solid programming skills, and experience in acquisition and analysis of neuroscientific or behavioural data.

FUNDING

Salary is based on the funding guidelines of the Max Planck Society. The Max Planck society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.

MALTA - Scholarships in Climate Action offered by the Government of Malta for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Malta (Incoming)

The government of Malta is financing 3 scholarships for masters of science by research at the University of Malta in three climate-change related pathways: mitigation of climate change and the development of a low carbon economy; identifying risks and vulnerability to adapt to climate change and enhance resilience; good governance of climate change. The scholarships are open to applicants and residents from UNFCCC Non-Annex I countries, including Brazil and all countries of the Latin America and Caribbean region (CELAC).

NETHERLANDS - NIAS Individual Fellowships

NIAS Individual Fellowships are awarded to senior scholars to carry out advanced research in the humanities and the social sciences.

Fellowships are by application only and suit scholars from the Netherlands or scholars from abroad who wish to work on an individual project for one semester (September - January or February - June) or two semesters (September - June) at the Institute.

ELIGIBILITY

- Fellows have at least three years of post-PhD degree academic experience and have already made a considerable contribution to their field.

- Affiliation with a university or research institute

FUNDING

A NIAS fellowship awarded to a scholar from abroad includes subsidised accommodation (see also "What NIAS Offers"), lunches, a personal study, research facilities, one international return ticket.

NIAS Fellowships are funded directly by NIAS through the Royal Netherlands

Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

Deadlines: 15 April 2017 (for Individual Scholars with a non-Dutch affiliation 2018/19); 1 August 2017 (for Individual Scholars with a Dutch affiliation

2018/19)

NETHERLANDS – NWO ASPASIA Programme linked to Innovational Research Incentives Scheme Vidi and Vici

Aspasia is a grant linked to the Vidi and Vici competitive grant scheme. The following are eligible for Aspasia:

- female researchers who have been awarded a grant under the Vidi and Vici scheme

- female researchers who met the criteria for Vidi or Vici after the interview procedure, but did not receive a grant due to a funding shortfall.

The Aspasia grant is awarded to Executive Boards that promote female candidates to the position of assistant or full professor within a year after the decisions in the Vidi or Vici round. Further information is available on the Aspasia page.

The highest performing female candidates in the NOW ’s Vidi and Vici rounds (see call above) will be approached by NWO after the round if they are not yet an associate professor (in case of Vidi) or full professor (in case of Vici).

NOW will be asking if they want NOW to approach their employer (at one of the recognised Dutch host institutes) about promoting them to such a professorship. BRAZIL (FAPESP) - UK (BBSRC) –pump-priming awards for new collaborations between research groups in the State of São Paulo, Brazil and BBSRC funded research groups in the UK. Priority will be given to applications in the area of food security and/or Bioenergy and Industrial Biotechnology. Applications must be made by a Principle Investigator (PI) currently in receipt of BBSRC research funding. Deadline: anytime.

BRAZIL (FAPESP) - Visiting Researcher Programme offers full or partial support for the hosting of experienced investigators, associated with foreign research institutions for a period from 2 weeks to a maximum period of 12 months. The visiting and host researchers must hold a PhD degree and have an outstanding record of scientific accomplishments. Proposals can be submitted at any time by investigators associated with higher education and research institutions in the State of São Paulo.
