The Golden Knight July 2017 Edition Thank you Father John Blewett for 8 years of service as our Chaplain. We wish you the best in your new role as Pastor of St. Mary’s Church and Parochial Vicker of St. Mary School in Platteville. With Bishop Morlino’s approval, Father Jerry Zhanay will be our new Chap- lain. Father is the incoming Pastor of St. Norbert’s Parish. Father Jerry has been a Knight since January, 2015 and a na- tive of Ecuador. His parents were born in Ecuador and now live in New Jersey where he and his sister grew up. It was in Ecuador where his family met the priests from the Soci- ety of Jesus Christ the Priest and he was invited to study in the school that the priests had in New Jersey. Father Jerry is an accomplished cook and makes an exceptional Pael- la. Father says his Mom is a great cook in the family and where he gets his love for the kitchen. The scholarship checks were awarded in response to written submis- sions and intended to help with Harriett and Devin’s post graduate education costs.

Knights and family members are invit-ed to enjoy a tasty KC Brat (or two) Friday July 28 and Saturday July 29 at Piggly Wiggly in Sauk City. Help is needed cooking and helping customers. The Brat Stand is one of our best events each year because we meet lots of folks and reinforce our mission. Chris is coordinating volunteers for both days. Join Knights Councils from around the Madison area Satur-day, August 12 for a great day of Mallard’s Baseball and FREE tailgate to benefit the Madison Women's Care Center. Tickets ONLY $13. Tailgate includes brats, burgers, sides and drinks...plus Toni O’Connell’s outstanding homemade cookies! Game time 6:35pm. Tailgate starts at 2pm on the south east end of the parking lot. $2.00 from every ticket benefits the Wom-en’s Care Center. The second annual Father’s Day 100

was run June 18 at Sugar River Race-

way in Broadhead. Teams included

many Knights from Council 3099. Win-

ning Team was Alex Atkinson, Jacob

Hutter & Jeff Hutter. They won by only

seconds when Seth Nelson, who was in

first place until the very last lap, spun

out just before the finish line and the

Atkinson Hutter team won! Margaret

Nelson reports the race was very excit-

ing, lots of fun and next year it’s hoped

to combine the race with St. Mary’s in

Brother Knights,

July is here and it starts the new fiscal year for our coun-

cil. I would first like to thank our Chaplain Fr. John

Blewett, for the past five years of serving our council. Fr.

John will still be a member of our council but being trans-

ferred to St. Mary’s in Platteville. I would like to welcome

our new Chaplain Fr. Jerry Zhañay, Fr. Jerry is no stranger to our council

he Joined our council and the Knights in 2015. I would also like to thank Jim

DeSchepper for his all that he has done for our council. He was our Past

Grand Knight, recorder, our newsletter editor and our council’s photogra-

pher. He is leaving our council and moving to Iowa to be closer to his grand-

children. I would also like to thank Nick Ballweg for stepping up and taking

Jims spot as our council’s reporter. Best of luck Fr. John and Jim and wel-

come Fr. Jerry and Nick to their new roles in our council.

Dear Knights,

As you know, I am leaving the Sauk area and heading to a new assignment in Platteville mid-July. I wanted to thank all of you for your help and support throughout the years I have been here. Remain faithful to Our Lord and you will be happy and holy men here and for all eternity. God bless you and your wonderful families and know that you will forever remain in my heart and my pray-ers. Please pray for me on my new adventure and continue to support Fr. Jerry, your new chaplain, and all the priests here as you always have.

The Jim & Peg DeSchepper family is the Council 3099 Family of the Month for July. Jim is our Recorder, Editor of the Newsletter and Web Site Editor. He is our Past Grand

Knight and a member of the 4th Degree Honor Guard. Jim retired earlier this year from Relevant Radio. Peg is the Branch Office Administration for Edward Jones in Lodi. The DeScheppers have two married daughters and a grand-daughter. They will be moving to Iowa later this summer to be closer to family. Jim plans to transfer to Council 7898 at St. Patrick’s Church in Clear Lake, Iowa. Congratulations to Brother Jim and Lady Peg.

We honor our Council Chaplain Father John Blewett as our Knight of the Month for July Father John wears many hats in our community of faith, and he wears all of them very well.

Besides being our Chaplain, Father John is the Pas-tor of Divine Mercy Parish. He is constantly busy attending to the needs of the parish, St. Al’s and its wonderful teachers and students, visiting hospitals, nursing homes and the homebound, and fulfilling all the critical tasks of a parish priest. He will be missed. He has been a Knight since 2009 and is a Fourth Degree member. Father John is a daily inspiration and a reminder of just how much positive impact one can have on the lives of others, simply by living one’s faith. Thank you Father John for being a moti-vating force as our Council Chaplain, and congratu-lations for being chosen as our Knight of the Month!

Minutes from May Meeting read and approved – Bill/Larry Bills were read and approved –

Larry/Bill. FS Report : Received RSVP in amount of $200 for Seminarian/Religious support .

Received RSVP in amount of $400 for Food Pack donations. Continuing to track members

in arrears. Total amount our council contributed to State Raffle was $4425 and there

were no winners from our council or Madison Area. GK Report: Presented slate of offic-

ers for 2017-2018, requested nominations for Recorder, the only open position, Nick

Balweg placed his name in nomination. There were no other nominations and slate was

approved unanimously. Father Jerry will be our new Chaplain, pending approval of the

Bishop. Chaplains Report-Thanked council for all our hard work, encouraged us to contin-

ue support of Fr. Jerry. Stated that Priest appreciate the hard work of strong Catholic

men. Invited all to attend St. Al’s Parish Festival on June, 25 after the 10:30 Mass. July 8/9

will be his last weekend Masses at St. Al’s. Business: 1) Farewell to Father John – Thanked

Fr. John for his service. There will be a Farewell Dinner at St. Al’s after the 4:30 Mass on

July 8th, pot luck style. Blessed Trinity Parish Raffle – approved a $100 donation Bill/Larry.

St. Norbert Family Fun Raffle – approved $200 donation Roy/Rick. St. Norbert’s pur-

chased the trailer we use for the brat stand, requested we share in the purchase cost,

along with the CCW – approved $234 Rick/Mark. St. Norbert calendar sponsorship-

approved $250 Nick/Rick. 6:8 Mission trip-approved $25 per attendee of St. Al’s or St.

Norbert’s participating. See John Held for tickets to the Mallards game. Correspondence-

Thank You’s from Camp Grey, Spiritus and Harry Endress family. Raffles-Troy Breunig was

chosen for the member raffle-he was not present. Dennis Gre won the Culvers gift card.
