Moon Carnival
The Nehru Planetarium organised a ‘Moon Carnival’ on 31st January, 2018 to mark the celestial
spectacle of ‘Super Blue Blood Moon’. Around 250 students from 25 different schools of Delhi
participated in the event. The day long programme was attended by few students of Class V wherein
they participated in a variety of fun activities and interactive sessions.
Mr. N. Rathnasree, Director of Nehru Planetarium conducted an interactive session in the sky
theatre where different astronomical phenomena like eclipses, phases of moon, features of moon,
were explained with the help of audio-video aids and simple demonstrations. This was followed by
an informal quiz session. The planetarium had organised some fun activities for the students, such
as, Crater Making Activity, Moon Phases Rangoli, Oreo Biscuit ‘Phases of the Moon’ activity. The
carnival was overall an enlightening learning experience for the children.
Enrichment Programme at DPS Daulatpur, Haridwar
Subject Enrichment Programme, a three day workshop from 28th to 30th December, 2017 was held
at DPS Daulatpur, Haridwar. The programme was conducted for pre-primary, primary and upper
primary classes under the guidance of Dr. Zeenat Khader, Jt. Secretary, D.P.S. A team of teachers,
Ms. Shalu Ahuja, Ms. Sonia Sharma and Ms. Komal Goomer, conducted the workshop for various
levels.
The programme aimed at strengthening teaching methodology in a manner that the teacher is able
to infuse, involve and inspire the young learners. The curriculum should be able to develop higher
order thinking skills. The use of innovative ideas in our day to day teaching to make our classes
interesting was emphasised. Relating real life experiences and teaching through demonstrating
various concepts in the class to make teaching learning process effective. A stimulating classroom
environment should be created to enhance learning and ignite the curiosity of young learners was
stressed upon.
The programme also included a session on lesson planning, division of cycles, preparation of
assignments, assessment and evaluation, preparation of blue print of the question papers, setting of
question papers to bring about required learning out comes.
The programme was attended by the teachers of the school who were quite receptive and showed
keen interest. It was a successful interaction to bring about positive improvement in the teaching
learning process.
REPORT
A Workshop on Air Pollution
A workshop on “Air Pollution” was organized for the students of classes V & VI on 19th December,
2017 at DPS Vasant Kunj. The resource person for the same was Ms. Neha Maurya who is an alumna
of our school, a dietician and a renowned doctor at Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and
Research. It was attended by Ms. Rachna Gupta, Vice Principal and Ms Deepti Vohra, Academic Co-
ordinator. It was a brief interactive session discussing various types of pollutants present in the air
i.e. particulate pollution, gaseous pollution and microbiological pollution and its causes. Children
were made aware of the pollution myths like it makes our lungs stronger (or builds immunity) and
were given solutions to increase their pollution fighting ability. They were also encouraged to wear
masks with N95 and N99 rating, use HEPA filters and indoor plants to help reduce PM levels. They
were asked to make a few changes in their eating habits like to eat jiggery, drink a lot of water and
eat healthy food so that they could fight pollution in a better way. It was quite an enjoyable
experience for the children where they also learned about a few interesting exercises for
strengthening their lungs. They learned a lot through this workshop. It was an informative and
fruitful workshop.
Magic Show
held on 13th November, 2017
It was truly the ‘magic’ of The Magic Show that held our little audience spellbound and wanting for
more when Mr. Mahesh Kumar, the renowned magician, performed magic tricks for the students of
Classes Nursery - I. He’s also a Guinness Book Record holder and participated in India’s Got Talent.
Some of the most captivating moments were when a white bird sprung from a scarf, juggling the
balls, pop the balloon, longer stick etc. This annual event in D.P.S. is always a welcome treat for
students and teachers.
Keeping Safe
held on 25th Sept.’2017
A workshop on “Keeping Safe” was conducted on 25th Sept.’2017 by Ms. Surpreet Oberoi, school
counsellor, Jr. School for the students of Class-III. The main purpose of the workshop was to teach
the children ‘safety habits’ and to familiarise them with ‘good touch and bad touch.’ It was an
interactive session and the children participated with great interest.
Career choices and stream selection An interactive Workshop on 'Career choices and stream selection ' was conducted for parents of class x students. Mr Jitin Chawla an eminent career counselor ,director Centre for Career Development conducted the workshop for the parents of class 10 students on 22nd September 2017. He spoke of the various conventional and nonconventional career choices and how different stream combinations can be used to make the best choices.Also, he spoke on creating a student profile for studying abroad .
'Career Avenues' An interactive workshop on 'Career Avenues' was conducted at DPS Vasant Kunj by an eminent
Career Counsellor, Mr Jitin Chawla, for class X students on 30th August 2017. He apprised students of various career options available with different subject combinations. He
provided detailed information about the scope in future under Humanities,Commmerce and science
streams.
Having a knowledge of possibilities helps the students take correct decisions for their future .In the
same light parental participation is significant .We will have one such for parents in the near future.
Career Fair of US Universities
A small career fair was organised for the students of class XII at DPS Vasant Kunj on 10th August
2017. The following Universities visited the school and interacted with the students : Depaul
University, Emerson College, Foothill + DeAnza College, University of IOWA and Utah State
University. The delegates explained the admission process, making the profile, preparing for SAT and
AP exams. The students liked the event and asked many relevant questions which were answered
patiently by the delegates.
Opportunities in Canada
An Interactive session was organised for the students of class XI and XII on opportunities available in
Canadian Universities on 21st August 2017. Canadian representatives in India Mr. Mel Broitman and
Marie Brasivell gave an orientation about Education in Canada. They also explained the admission
procedure, scholarships available and cost for studying in Canada. Students clarified their queries.
Motivational Talk
An Interactive workshop was organised for the students of class XI and XII. The guest speaker
Saarthak Aggarwal, alumini and All India CBSE Topper 2013-14 motivated the students to work hard.
The tips given by him made a difference to the students. He also detailed guidelines to develop a
profile which can help students when they wish to pursue higher studies abroad.
Hong King University of Science & Technology
An interactive workshop was organised for the students of class XI and XII by the Hong Kong
University of Science and Technology. Mr. Sam H. Chow, Executive officer, Sehaj Garg, student
ambassador, Kriti Gupta student Ambassador discussed the admission procedure, scholarships, Fee
structure as well as the students societies present in the Hong Kong University of Science and
Technology. They also spoke on pre requisites seeking admission in the university. A comparative
analysis of education in other countries was done and the importance of studying in Hong Kong was
highlighted.
Origami Greeting Card Making Workshop
'Origami Greeting Card-Making' workshop was conducted for the students of
Class IV by Ms. Kiran Gupta on 11th August, 2017 from HT-Pace. The children
designed bright and colourful greeting cards.
Kite Making and Gift Wrapping Workshop
A workshop on 'Kite Making and Gift Wrapping' was organised by Ms. Meeta
Rampal from Times of India on 10th August, 2017 for the students of Class V.
Children enjoyed learning new ways of wrapping gifts and decorating kites.

DPS Rohini organised the competition 'Kaleidoscope'. It started with the panel discussion
where the school counsellor of DPS Vasant Kunj, Dr Shalini Prasad was invited as one of the
panelist for the topic "Overcoming Challenges and Barriers in Inclusion at School and
Community level". It was followed by events like Bolbala- Movie making competition,
Abhivyakti- Poem Recitation, Avmukta- Poster making competition, Vivechan- English
Debate and Jagrit. Our school won the second prize in Movie making competition 'Bolbala'
and received the 'Excellent Performance Award' in 'Abhivyakti'
PACE WORKSHOP FOR CLASS X
DPS Vasant Kunj, in association with The Hindustan Times, PACE, organised a workshop
for the students of Class X on 17 May, 2017. The topic was Career Counselling, and the
resource person was Ranjeet Majumdar. He enlightened the students about the array of career
options available as also, the need to choose the right career goal, driven by aptitude and not
societal pressure.
NIE WORKSHOP FOR CLASS VII
DPS Vasant Kunj, in association with The Times of India, NIE, organised a workshop for the
students of Class VII on 17 May, 2017. The topic was Personality Development, and the
resource person was Vandana Tandon. She impressed upon the impressionable students about
the significance of practising politeness and kindness in today’s world, to elicit the same for
one, from the others.
NIE WORKSHOP FOR CLASS IX
DPS Vasant Kunj, in association with The Times of India, NIE, organised a workshop for the
students of Class IX on 11 May, 2017. The topic was Personality Development, and the
resource person was Jayshree Mehta, who involved the students in interacting about self-
esteem, self- image and peer pressure.
NIE WORKSHOP FOR CLASS VIII
DPS Vasant Kunj, in association with The Hindustan Times, PACE, organised a workshop
for the students of Class VIII on 11 May, 2017. The topic was Personality Development, and
the resource person was Lucky Puchhrat, from Mavericks India. He dwelled upon time-
management and the pursuit of real- time hobbies for optimum development of the
personality.
Workshop for French Students
The students of class 11 of DPS Vasant Kunj participated in a workshop on 17th May 2017 conducted
by Ms. Manisha Sondhi in Mini Auditorium in the school premises. The main objective of the same
was to present the advantages of DELF B2(International lifelong certification for French). In certain
schools the students can choose French only as a 6th subject over and above other subjects. Thus,
there is less motivation for taking up French as a subject after class 10.
In France, education is free for students from all over the world who have cleared the DELF B2 and
who wish to pursue their higher studies in a French university. Therefore, it was necessary for us to
inform the students about this policy of the French Government to motivate them to take the DELF
B2 exam and consider France as a destination for further studies.
