ImustadmitthatI'mnotusuallyareaderofromancenovelsandcan'tmakeanyjudgementonhowthisbookcomparestoothersinthegenre.Ido,however,loveaChristmasstory,andamabigfanoftheholidayread.Ireallyenjoyedthisbook.It'slight,fun,andalittlesilly,butit'sagreatholidayread.Enjoyitforwhatitis.Ireceivedacopyofthisbookinexchangeforafairandhonestreview.

ThestoryopensinSeptember1953,whenthebodyof14-year-oldBeverlyMiddletonisdiscoveredinthedrivewayofaholidayhomeinMrMartha.Withoutthebenefitsofmoderndayforensics,andconfusedbycontradictorywitnessreportsandmysteriousphonecalls–possiblyfromthemurderer–policeareunabletosolvethecase.Sixtyyearsafterthemurder,junioracademicandPhDcandidate,NickSzaboisembarkingonresearchintotheHungarianwaterpoloteamdefectorsduringthe1956MelbourneOlympics.DuringhisinterviewswithretireeArthurBoyle,theirdiscussionsturnedtotheviolentcrimesoccurringaroundthetimeoftheGames.BoylewasparticularlyconcernedaboutthemurderMsMiddleton,aformerworkcolleagueofhis.AsBoyleunpackshismemoriesoftheeventsoftheday,hecomestosuspectthatthemurderermaybesomeone‘closetohome’.
