the vehicle be plugged in whentemperatures are below 0 °C (32 °F)and above 32 °C (90 °F) tomaximize high voltage battery life.

When using a 120-volt AC electricaloutlet, it will take approximately50 hours to charge the vehicle withthe 12 amp AC current setting, allowing approximately 6 km (4 mi)for every hour of charging.

When using a 240-volt chargingstation, it will take approximately9.5 hours to charge the vehicle withthe 32 amp setting, allowingapproximately 40 km (25 mi) forevery hour of charging.

Charge times will vary based onbattery condition and outsidetemperature. See ProgrammableCharging 0 124 for charge modeselection.

Important Information aboutPortable Electric Vehicle Charging

. Charging an electric vehicle canstress a building’s electricalsystem more than a typicalhousehold appliance.

. Before plugging into anyelectrical outlet, have a qualifiedelectrician inspect and verify theelectrical system (electricaloutlet, wiring, junctions, andprotection devices) forheavy-duty service at a 12 ampcontinuous load.

. Electrical outlets may wear outwith normal usage or may bedamaged over time, makingthem unsuitable for electricvehicle charging.

. Check the electrical outlet/plugwhile charging and discontinueuse if the electrical outlet/plug ishot, then have the electricaloutlet serviced by a qualifiedelectrician.

. When outdoors, plug into anelectrical outlet that isweatherproof while in use.

. Mount the charge cord to reducestrain on the electricaloutlet/plug.

. Do not place the charge cord ina position where it is expected tobe submerged in water.

{ DangerImproper use of portable electricvehicle charge cords may causea fire, electrical shock, or burns, and may result in damage toproperty, serious injury, or death.

. Do not use extension cords,multi-outlet power strips, splitters, groundingadaptors, surge protectors,or similar devices.

. Do not use an electricaloutlet that is worn ordamaged, or will not holdthe plug firmly in place.

. Do not use an electricaloutlet that is not properlygrounded.

Tire Pressure MonitorThis vehicle may have a TirePressure Monitor System (TPMS).

The low tire pressure warning lightalerts to a significant loss inpressure of one of the vehicle'stires. If the warning light comes on,stop as soon as possible and inflatethe tires to the recommendedpressure shown on the Tire andLoading Information label. See

Vehicle Load Limits 0 197. Thewarning light will remain on until thetire pressure is corrected.

The low tire pressure warning lightmay come on in cool weather whenthe vehicle is first started, and thenturn off as the vehicle is driven. Thismay be an early indicator that thetire pressures are getting low andthe tires need to be inflated to theproper pressure.

The TPMS does not replace normalmonthly tire maintenance. Maintainthe correct tire pressures.

See Tire Pressure Monitor System0 277.

Driving for Better EnergyEfficiencyUse the following tips to helpmaximize energy efficiency andrange.

In colder temperatures, while theseefficiency tips will help, the electricvehicle driving range may be lowerdue to higher energy usage.

  • Chevrolet Bolt EV Owner Manual (GMNA-Localizing-U.S./Canada/Mexico-10122739) - 2017 - CRC - 10/3/16

    30 In Brief

    Acceleration/Braking/Coasting

    Avoid unnecessary rapidaccelerations and decelerations.

Electric range is maximized at80 km/h (50 mph) and below. Higherspeeds use more energy and cansignificantly reduce electric range.

    Use cruise control whenappropriate.

Plan ahead for decelerations andcoast whenever possible. Forexample, do not rush to trafficsignals.

Do not shift to N (Neutral) to coast. The vehicle recovers energy whilecoasting and braking in D (Drive)or L (Low).

    Climate Setting

Using the heat and air conditioningsystems decreases the energyavailable for electric driving.

Optimal energy efficiency isachieved with the heat, airconditioning, and fan turned off.

Operating with the climate controlsystem off is the most energyefficient climate setting.

Use the heated seat feature insteadof climate settings. Heating the seatuses less energy than heating thevehicle interior.

Use remote start to heat or cool theinterior when the vehicle is pluggedin to maximize the electric range byutilizing electricity from the electricaloutlet.

In hot weather, avoid parking indirect sunlight or use sunshadesinside the vehicle.

Turn off the front and rear windowdefog/defrost when they are nolonger needed.

Avoid driving with the windows openat highway speeds.

    Vehicle Charging/Maintenance

    Charging

Keep the vehicle plugged in, evenwhen fully charged, to keep thebattery temperature ready for thenext drive. This is important whenoutside temperatures are extremelyhot or cold.

    Maintenance

Always keep the tires properlyinflated and the vehicle properlyaligned.

The weight of excess cargo in thevehicle affects efficiency and range.Avoid carrying more than is needed.

Avoid unnecessary use of electricalaccessories. Power used forfunctions other than propelling thevehicle will reduce EV range.

Using a rooftop carrier will reduceefficiency due to additional weightand drag.
