USTA School Tennis is a national program that enriches the lives of elementary, middle and high school youngsters through tennis.
By giving students an opportunity to learn the basic skills of tennis in their physical education classes and then developing extracurricular tennis playing programs, students are learning fundamental movement skills and are building confidence in their ability to learn new games. They're getting fit, and having fun doing it.
The program includes a free in-service training workshop for physical education teachers and after-school program providers which gives them the skills and materials necessary to teach tennis. Teachers gain access to a comprehensive step by step curriculum, discounted equipment and free site visits.
Then, whether it’s a Kids Tennis Club, Lunchtime Tennis, intramurals or leagues, USTA is committed to providing the training, expertise and resources you need to give kids in elementary, middle or high school the opportunity to play and have fun outside of the school day.
Over the last 15 years, USTA Colorado has helped introduce more than 750,000 kids to tennis through their physical education classes, and is searching for new schools to partner with across the state. In 2017, USTA Colorado expects to be actively involved with more than 200 schools, reaching upwards of 75,000 students.

please visit CWTF.net or contact us at
WHEELCHAIR PLAYERS DEVELOP INDEPENDENCE, SELF-CONFIDENCE
Wheelchair tennis is one of the fastest growing wheel-chair sports in the country. Rules are the same as stand-up tennis, except the wheelchair player is allowed two bounces of the ball, which makes it easy to pair a chair player and a stand-up player together for doubles, or even allow wheelchair competitors to participate in any sanc-tioned league or tournament without any other special considerations. One popular format is One-Up, One-Down doubles, which allows those with disabilities the opportu-nity to share in activities with their able-bodied peers and family and increases the playing opportunities available to players in wheelchairs.
While wheelchair tennis is a competitive sport, it offers participants much more. Brad Parks, who founded the sport in 1976, said "It's more than tennis for people in wheelchairs; it gives them their lives back."
ADAPTIVE TENNIS OPENS DOORS FOR EVERY ATHLETE
The game of tennis can be adapted to accommodate any age, environment, condition or disability. USTA Colorado seeks to promote and develop recreational tennis opportunities for individuals with varying abilities and circumstances through inclusion, knowledge and sup-port.
Special Olympics tennis programs are based in communities across Colorado, and need players and volunteers to share their passion for tennis with participants.

JUNIORSWHY TENNIS?
If you’re looking to introduce your child to a sport, tennis is a great option on many levels. It’s equally mental as it is physical, therefore promoting both strong psychological and physiological development.
START EARLYThe primary school and early-secondary school years are a
crucial time during which children acquire coordination and complex technical skills. If they play several games or sports during this period they enjoy significant physical advantages over kids who don’t experience or engage with sport.
Tennis in particular provides countless physical benefits for children of this age. It develops their hand-eye coordination, gross motor control (through court movement and ball striking), fine motor control (through finessed drop shots and angled volleys), balance and body coordination, all the while building acceleration, speed, leg strength, agility and flexibility. Tennis also promotes overall good health in children – improved bone strength and density, and a robust immune system.
LESSONS FOR LIFEFrom a psychological standpoint, children who play tennis
develop skills and strategies that will also serve them well in life off the court. Because they’re out there on their own, and often calling their own lines while competing, children learn to accept responsibility for their actions, decisions and mistakes, and can begin to manage these more effectively.
They must learn to respond to adversity, adapt to different situations and environments, and deal with stress, often compounded when scores are tight or if they’re losing. Both in practice and competitive environments, tennis fosters work ethic, discipline, and sportsmanship in children, and hones their strategic and problem solving skills.
WORKING TOGETHERTennis also fosters social skills – children learn about the
importance of teamwork when playing doubles, and benefit from the necessary communication with singles opponents before, during and after matches.

TRY. HIT. PLAY.Getting started with tennis is easy and fun. Experience the game firsthand at Tennis Festivals and through USTA School Tennis, or hitting with friends/family on your local court, even driveway tennis. Most tennis facilities, pub-lic and private, offer introductory programs to help get your child in the swing of the game. Ask about the right ball & the right court...it matters!
There is no age limit to learning tennis.Already know the basics, but aren't ready to test your skills out against the competition? Jumpstart your learning at Kids Tennis Clubs, or find a program at your local Park & Rec or tennis facility. There are also numerous day and week-long Summer Camps, local and regional, that cater to youth who want to really take their game up a notch.
Competition is an essential component of learning and enjoying any sport, and USTA Colorado advocates getting kids playing as quickly and capably as possible in a fun, welcoming environment. The following programs are integral development components of a young player's progression in the sport.
Play Days get kids competing in a fun, low-key environment. These competitions are organized in formats that allow children to serve, rally and score against multiple opponents.
Tennis is a great team sport, and Colorado Junior Team Tennis and the 3v3 Grand Prix provide kids the opportunity to learn and compete on a team and be with their friends.
USTA Colorado Junior Sanctioned Tournaments offer a wide variety of formats to accommodate players of virtually any age and skill level. Colorado’s multiple-match, single-day A.C.E format guarantees a player-friendly experience while also helping parents manage their kids’ busy schedules.

20 2017 BIG BOOK OF COLORADO TENNIS COLORADOTENNIS.com
At every stage of a junior player's development, age-appropriate equipment and formats help children learn the game while having fun.
ROGY is the acronym for the progression of balls that young players use as they grow older, beginning with low-compression balls, smaller courts and kid-sized racquets.
INTRODUCING KIDS TO COMPETITIONAt some point, kids will want to play "real" games. The important thing for parents to
recognize is that there is no one way to compete in tennis. USTA Colorado advocates for a broad-spectrum approach that incorporates many formats, options and experiences to keep kids interested and help them develop their interest in the game.
Kids don’t “graduate” from one to the other, they should continually use each play opportunity as a way to improve their skills, strategy and tactics.
