Mission enCourage Kids Foundation helps to humanize healthcare for children and their families by resourcing impact-driven pediatric programs and supporting the Child Life Community.

Vision A world where every child – regardless of the difficulty of his or her medical journey – experiences joy, hope, resilience, and healing.

Our unique programs, designed in partnership with the Child Life Community, have shown to improve pediatric patients’ experience in the hospital in the following ways: reduced anxiety and depression; alleviation of stress, loneliness, and isolation; increased knowledge about diagnoses; and an improved sense of peer support.

2017 was a remarkable year of growth for enCourage Kids as we expanded beyond the tri-state area to provide funding and programming to hospitals nationwide and in Puerto Rico. More than three million children are hospitalized each year in the United States, and with your help we are closer than ever to reaching each one. With a goal of having a presence in all pediatric facilities nationwide, we look forward to making the hospital a better place to get better for all sick kids.

This is possible because of you.

In 2017, you helped us bring laughter, comfort, and distraction to more than 400,000 sick children and their families, providing programs focused on improving their quality of life and emotional well-being.

Together we made great strides in helping to humanize the healthcare experience for sick kids. In 2017 alone, your support ensured that over 100,000 patients benefited from hospital projects funded through our Pediatric Hospital Support Program (PHSP), more than 72,500 sick kids played with a Tablet during their hospital stays, upwards of 26,700 children were entertained through Hospital Happenings, 2,500 patients received a cuddly Bear, and over 1,100 sick kids attended free family outings through our Escapes program — offering relief from the constant burden of treatment, hospital stays, and doctor appointments.

2017 also marked an important milestone for our Pediatric Hospital Support Program. We are proud to have exceeded $15M in direct funding awarded to pediatric facilities to support nearly 850 hospital projects. Although these projects are critical and utilize unique therapies to meet the needs of their patients, they are not typically covered by the hospitals’ budgets. As the Child Life landscape continues to evolve, we will provide what they need to improve the hospital experience for their patients.

With your support, we continue to develop our partnerships with pediatric facilities across the country and make medical experiences more positive for sick kids. The vital programs and successes of enCourage Kids are made possible through the support of generous donors like you.

Escapes

72,500Pediatric patients who played with a Tablet during their hospital stay. It is a critical resource for distractive therapy and helps kids learn to cope with illness, treatments, and procedures.

2,840Pediatric patients who received cuddly Bears during their hospital stay. The Bear is a cuddly friend which relieves stress and anxiety and is a tool that Child Life Specialists can use for medical play.

1,120Sick kids attended our Escapes. These cost-free family outings allow sick children to enjoy normal childhood fun and gives families a break from their daily medical challenges. Families can connect with one another and return home with a new sense of strength and hope.

The Pediatric Hospital Support Program allows our pediatric partners to implement their most critical and crucial programs through funds provided by enCourage Kids. These specialized programs address the unique needs of each facility and their patients. Since the program’s inception in 1996, we have awarded over $15.1 million to support nearly 850 projects across the country.

Your support has made it possible for enCourage Kids to make hospitals a better place to get better for millions of pediatric patients, funding programs that improve patients’ emotional well-being and quality of life.
