The main themes of the President’s Report
include:
• A review of the developments and achievements
over the last 3 years
• The introduction of the new president
President’s Report
11 www.acompalia.org
Utilidad Publica:
• A status which allows donors to reclaim their tax
• A ‘Gold Star’ status, recognised by authorities, by companies
and by philanthropists who are looking for a worthwhile and
well-managed charity to support
• We received the status in July 2016 - after a long application
process!
• We thank Chris Oliver our Treasurer, Fran Ortega our Solicitor
and Vice President, and Jose - our gestor from ADV Gestion -
for all their hard work.
President’s Report
12 www.acompalia.org
Land in Motríl
• From the start of Acompalia, the Motril Ayuntamiento
had indicated that they might be willing to grant us a
plot of land
• But the grant was contingent on us receiving the
Utilidad Publica status
• We have now received that status and the Motril
Ayuntamiento has confirmed that we may use the land
• We therefore hope to break ground this year!
• In Phase I of our construction project, we plan to to
build a shop and a Day Care Centre.
President’s Report

Acompalia PATRON
• Since the outset Acompalia has been looking for an
appropriate Patron.
• Our search ended successfully in 2016 when we found
an outstanding candidate - Pepe Luis Carmona
Habichuela, a Flamenco master.
• Together with Pepe Luis, we are organising a benefit
concert in the Majuela Gardens in Almuňecar on
August the 6th. The concert will feature several
Flamenco stars including Antonio Carmona from
Ketama.
• Look out for the posters and information on our
website.

Acompalia Helpline
• Meeting with Motríl Hospital confirming a strong
new relationship and increased mutual support
• Helping patients and their families through their most
difficult moments.
• Tanja Linton is our Helpline leader. She is a trilingual
nurse, with a great deal of experience in supporting
patients in the final phase of their lives
• Further Helpline training sessions are being arranged.
• Come and join us on Acompalia’s Agnes Day - the
Volunteers’ Open Day - on the 25th May in Lanjarón
Centre.

Dear members and supporters,
I would like to thank Lindsay for the warm and slightly biased
introduction as we are friends. Most of you may not know who I am,
so I will share with you a little bit more, promise it won’t be too long
or too boring.
I currently live in the south of Jaén province, some 150 kms from the
Lanjaron shop.
Translator and interpreter by trade, I am also running a parallel career which
evolves around complementary therapies.
Trained Swedish masseuse, I have now specialized in sound therapy for deep
relaxation massages.
I came across Acompalia three years ago and jumped on-board as a supporter
and member with a few fundraising efforts mainly through sports.
New President - Françoise Rajewski

I started volunteering since the young age of 9 and never stopped
since ( when I lived in Nottingham: Marie Curie Cancer Care, today
Vilostrada Foundation , I am a member of a Belgian association Le
Temps d’un instant)
From an experience point of view, I worked in Brussels as a
Business Manager, concentrating on Sponsorship and exhibition as
well as
I would like to applaud Lindsay’s efforts as Acompalia president
those past three years
massive kudos to our committee - as managed to maintain
momentum and keep the association move forward until now,
2017, which I believe will be a crucial year.
New President - Françoise Rajewski

Volunteers and members are the heart of Acompalia and their
passion combined with the drive of the committee made that today
the association sits on a very strong basis.
Last week meeting with the area manager of the Costa Tropical
and Alpujarra health centre and the communication director for
the Granada province, just confirmed, they were both very
impressed of what has been achieved, already!
The Acompalia shop has had a good first year. And now the
foundations are firmly set, it is ready to double up as the
Acompalia Encuentro/Meeting Centre (available WiFi)

Dedication of our shop volunteers headed by Nattie Andrews,
combined to a better supported social media presence
We will celebrate early summer our first yearly Viva La Vida Day
at the Acompalia shop in Lanjaron
Acompalia will be inaugurating its first and hopefully recurrent
Acompalia Volunteer Meet-Up in the shop on May 25th, that
will be held in Spanish and English-become a mobile venture as
we plan to create Acompalia volunteer hubs
Hub/supporting groups: Castell de Ferro - has done so far with
brio, with quizzes, rastros and the lovely September gala; GINS
with Chris Oliver - the Golf Tournament, Cadiar group of
Alpujarra Raid - Taffy & Co.; Robert&William - Jardin Alpurraja
Open gardens
New President - Françoise Rajewski

The summer will bring an outstanding opportunity for
Acompalia to shine in Motril with the ground breaking for the
hospice
This summer also, more precisely August 6th, will see our Patron,
Pepe Habichuela Carmona, lead the Acompalia Flamenco
Concert in Almuñecar
September will welcome again the annual gala, this time in a
different venue, on the outskirt of Granada
All those events and more will contribute towards Acompalia
reaching its ultimate goal: Acompalia Hospice.
New President - Françoise Rajewski
24 www.acompalia.org
With over 70,000 euros in the bank, our golden ticket (the
Utilidad Publica number), a ground for the hospice and an
increased social and traditional media presence, we are
developing a steady trampoline to dedicate serious energy to
fundraising the 3.5 million euros needed to build the hospice as
well as the 1 million necessary for the running of it the first year
Thank you for having jumped onboard with Acompalia, thank
you for spreading the word and helping us making it happen
And Than you for making us the association of choice for
Spanish and expats when the time has come to prepare the last
journey of our loved ones
