PROGRAM BASICS

Religious Education Sessions take place on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 5:30-6:45pm for Grades 1 – 8 and First Year Confirmation (High School). (Second Year Confirmation is a separate registration packet and process.)

Communion Preparation by Diocesan guideline requires two years of formation. A first year of basic catechesis (which we call First Year) involves attendance in regular grade level Religious Education sessions (those listed above). The second year then continues the basic grade level sessions but adds the Communion preparation with additional requirements like an additional preparation book and a retreat day; we call this these children Sacrament Candidates. In order to qualify to become a Sacrament Candidate, children must complete the First Year with sufficient attendance.

Confirmation Preparation by Diocesan guideline requires two years of formation. A first year of basic catechesis involves attendance in regular Religious Education sessions (those listed above) combined with additional expectations of broader church community participation.

Registration Fees provide almost all the financial support for our program and go directly to covering materials like textbooks, classroom supplies, and program equipment. Per family registration fees for this year are as follows:

Families with 1 Child: $45.00Families with 2 Children: $90.00Families with 3 or more Children: $100.00

Due to the extra program elements required to provide appropriate preparation for the reception of Sacraments, we also request a Sacrament Candidate Fee be collected. These fees are collected per child, so if you have multiple children who qualify as Sacrament Candidates, you will be assessed multiple Sacrament Candidate Fees.

Example The Andrews Family has two children, one in fourth grade who hasn’t received Communion yet and one in seventh grade who has. The Andrews kids attended St. Andrew Religious Education sessions last year with excellent attendance. Thus, the fourth grader is a Sacrament Candidate. Their worksheet might look like this:

CATECHIST

A Catechist leads a grade level session with children, which involves teaching, praying, playing, and sharing faith.

CATECHIST ASSISTANT

A Catechist Assistant helps the catechist, attending and participating in grade level sessions at the direction of the catechist.

DOOR KEEPER

The Door Keeper is the very important role of helping us maintain proper building security.

HALL MONITOR

The Hall Monitors keep kids on restroom trips moving and help catechists talk to staff.
