Dear Friends,

As we begin the second decade of support and engagement with our bright, young Scholars, we want to be sure to thank YOU for being a part of the CBO Family. The important work CBO does to ensure more low-income, first-generation college students successfully graduate would not be possible without your commitment and generosity.

You are providing the resources we need to help students like Stephanie, Gloria, Jasmin, and Stephany (pictured on the cover) pursue their college dreams. These young women graduated from Highland Park High School in May 2017 and are the first in their families to attend college. They will spend the next four years at Augustana College, Northeastern Illinois University, Carroll College, and Lawrence University studying special education, nursing, and international business.

Your investment in CBO also supports the organization’s efforts to ensure our Scholars are prepared for life after graduation. As part of our Career Prep program, students have the opportunity to meet with prospective employers at our annual Internship & Summer Jobs Fair in January and an informal networking reception in July to create new connections as they enter the working world. All these programs and events help CBO Scholars succeed in life, personally and professionally.

Celebrating FORE Years of Tees for DegreesMore than 100 golfers joined CBO for its 4th Annual Tees for Degrees Golf Outing on August 6, 2016 at the Royal Melbourne Country Club in Long Grove. Golfers participated in several Par 3 Challenges, including a Hole-In-One Contest for $1,000,000, as well as a helicopter ball drop to cap off the day’s activities! The event raised more than $90,000 and helped raise more awareness about CBO’s mission, programs and Scholars.

This year’s gala raised more than $200,000 to support the college dreams of CBO’s incredible Scholars. Two years ago, CBO forged a new partnership with Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep (CRSM) in Waukegan to support a small group of juniors in their pursuit of a college degree. In the spring of 2017, our inaugural class of Scholars from CRSM graduated from high school. Because of your generous support, this group of 10 bright, young men and women will be attending the following colleges and universities – Augustana College, Dominican University, Illinois State University, Marquette University, Rhodes College, University of Illinois – Chicago, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
