Threats of open geodata?• According to us:

• Data protection (E.g. mashups or/and small scale)• Misuse, misinterpretation or publication of obsolete/wrong data• Administrative costs (data preparation, documentation, resources)• Transparency
• According to geo data providers– Legal Barrier: Data under federal or cantonal jurisdication
– Threat: Missing revenues from selling geo data

• We love geo data! There’s a huge potential– Technical Geodata-Infrastruture in most Govs– International OGC-Standards, Interoperability– Metadata! – Data catalogs– Skills and great tools exist (FOSSGIS, OSM, Dataviz-Libs, etc.)

• Reusability!– Expensively produced geo data, that’s fincanced by the public,
can be used not just by a few, it can be used by anyone for anything.
• Innovation– In Zürich more social than economic benefits so far
• More efficient and effective government services– Do Govs really have to create all Apps / Interfaces themselves?
• New knowledge from combined data sources
• Self-empowerment, Transparency & Participation
