Background The World Food Programme is the world´s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. Each year, WFP assists some 80 million people in around 75 countries. WFP´s greatest strength in the pursuit of this mission are the dedicated women and men working around the world who provide access to nutritious food and promote lasting solutions to end hunger. Voluntary Assistants are a vital and valued component of the WFP community. They are guided solely by the motivation to devote their knowledge and abilities, without regard to financial benefit, to the global fight against hunger. CKMU at the WFP Regional Bureau The Communications and Knowledge Management Unit (CKMU) at the WFP´s Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean ensures the effective flow of information and knowledge generated by WFP´s activities in 11 countries in the region. The Unit implements communication, advocacy and outreach campaigns through WFP’s Spanish website and social media channels as well as facilitates knowledge sharing through the use of Information Management Strategies and Tools. Duties and Benefits Under the overall supervision of the Regional Communications and Knowledge Management Officer, Voluntary Assistants help implement the Unit´s innovative information and knowledge management strategy. Sample duties include: Conducting research and creating original content for web publication Designing bilingual infographics Developing training materials for WFP information user community Identifying, documenting and disseminating Best Practices Creating cross-functional KM systems Voluntary Assistants take on active roles in the CKM Unit from day one. Programme Details

Location

Voluntary Assistants are based at the WFP

Regional Bureau for Latin America and the

Caribbean, located in Ciudad de Saber, Panamá.

Ciudad de Saber sits along the Panama Canal and

houses numerous UN regional offices, providing

excellent networking opportunities.

Duration and Work Hours

Minimum of 3 months, which can be extended for

up to 1 year. Work hours are arranged on an

individual basis based on institutional

requirements and student needs, from 15 to 40

hours per week.

Remuneration and Costs

This is an unpaid position and participants are

responsible for all associated costs including

transportation, accommodations, etc. WFP does

provide coverage for work-related travel and

service-incurred accidents/illness/death.

Eligibility and Qualifications

Candidates should be actively enrolled in an

undergraduate or post-graduate degree program

in a related field (International Affairs, Marketing,

Communications, Knowledge Management, etc.)

Working knowledge of English and Spanish is

essential. Candidates must have excellent

communication, organizational, and research

skills and be passionate about and committed to

the mission of WFP to end hunger.
