League Round 01: Monday 11 January 2016

The new season commenced with 13 teams in Division One and 12 teams in Division Two. Two teams, Westoe

Room Nomads (now Green Baize Nomads) and Legion Room (now County Hotel) were relegated to Division

Two with two teams, Vigilant Inn and Trimmers Arms being promoted. Unfortunately the league lost one side,

Mariner however gained three new teams, Green Baize A, Boldon Lad and Whiteheads Social Club (probably

playing from the Mariner) who all start in Division Two. Division One Prince Dart Destroyers are now Buzzers

Sports Bar, with the following Second Division sides New Mill now Marsden Inn, Ashley Old Boys now Morgans

and Kennedys B now Prince Edward B.

Division One champions Red Hackle A’s opening

fixture at the Legion Bar was mutually postponed

with runners-up Kennedys A away at Voyager B. It

was Kennedys who started well and raced into a 3-

0 lead with Stevie Armstrong x20 (60), x10 (20) and

Norman Davison x2 (4) finishing. Graham Patterson

x20 (40) got the Voyager on the board however Jeff

Gibson (180) x 20 (40) and Ernie Hudson x12 (72)

made it 5-1. Brian Abdou x1 (2) made it 6-1 as he

beat Mike Slight however Graham Patterson x8

(16) beat Stevie Armstrong to pull a leg back. Jeff

Gibson x8 (16) secured victory as he beat Mark

Cairns with Keegan Cairns x4 (8) reducing the

deficit with a win over Derek Gibson. Ernie Hudson

x18 (36) made it 8-3 when he beat Eddie Kimber

however team-mate Norman Davison lost to Rob

Purvis x8 (25) to make the final score Voyager B 4

Kennedys A 8. Ernie Hudson make a winning start to his campaign

Westoe Bar, third last season travelled to fourth placed Wouldhave with Chris Blacklock x17 (34) giving them a

1-0 lead before Davey Whitehead x1 (2) levelled. Four straight legs though put the Bar in control as Paul

Johnson x1 (2), Chris Blacklock x10 (20), Davey Barnes x5 (10) and Keith Nicholson x8 (96) all finished. Warrick

Rochester x14 (46) reduced the deficit with a win against Chris Blacklock with team-mate Davey Whitehead x1

(2) also winning against Peter Bassett. Micky Mizen x4 (8) made it 6-3 with a win against Davey Richardson

however it was soon 6-4 as Kevin Brooks x4 (8) beat Davey Barnes. Paul Johnson (180) x16 (32) secured the

extra points for the Westoe as he beat Davie Mochan (180) before a win for Peter Gotts x9 (18) against Keith

Nicholson made the final score Wouldhave 5 Westoe Bar 7.

Promoted Trimmers Arms were shell shocked at the Westoe Room as the Originals raced into a 6-0 lead.

Wayne Guest x16 (32), Dean Apes x10 (20), David Hayes x20 (84), Lenny Stephenson x20 (100), Wayne Guest

x1 (2) and David Hayes x20 (40) all finishing. Lenny Stephenson x12 (24) secured victory as he beat James

Coffey with team-mate Dean Apes x8 (32) also winning against Shaun Wilson. Kurt Burgess x12 (32) was also a

winner as he beat Darren Arnold with Wayne Guest x10 (20) and Alain Tame x5 (10) also winning against Willie

Smyllie and Chris Scurfield. The visitors finally got a point on the board as Keith Tinmouth x20 (40) beat David

Hayes Jr to make the final score Westoe Room Originals 11 Trimmers Arms 1.

Prince Edward A hosted former Prince side Buzzers Sports Bar and led 4-2 at the halfway point after only

dropping the second triples and final pairs. Scott Harwood x16 (32) and Gary Thorius x16 (32) gave the hosts a

2-0 lead. Gary Thorius made it 3-1 with an excellent 147 checkout on double 18 with team-mate Anth Kenrick

x9 (18) also finishing. Dave Bell and Stevie Burns finished for Buzzers. Brian Rogerson x20 (53) made it 5-2 as

he beat Robert Pascoe with team-mate Gary Thorius x20 (40) also winning against Mark Bailey. Buzzers then

won three straight as Paul Hawthorne beat Anth Kenrick, Dave Bell beat Chris Coulson and Stevie Burns beat

Scott Harwood. Martin Auty x2 (4) however secured victory as he beat Liam Wasmuth to make the final score

Prince Edward A 7 Buzzers Sports Bar 5.

With Steamboat having the bye the final match finished Bridge Hotel 4 Vigilant Inn 8.

In Division Two new side Whiteheads Social Club (now playing from the Mariner) were unable to field a side

and unfortunately forfeited the match to the County.

Cranny, third last season and possible favourites for promotion hosted the White Ensign. The favourites tag

could be justified as the hosts raced into a 6-0 advantage, Mark Stephenson x2 (4), x4 (8), Chris Stephenson x1

(2), Andrew Stephenson x2 (5), Mark Harrison x5 (20) and Stephen Adams x4 (8) all finishing. Andrew

Stephenson x15 (40) then secured the victory as he beat Steve Gray with Brett Sykes x1 (2) also winning

against Peter Goodsir. Mark Stephenson however lost to Dean Adamson x7 (14) who secured the Ensign’s only

point as Mark Harrison x1 (2) beat Kenny Gray, Stephen Adams x20 (48) beat Stewart Henderson and Chris

Stephenson x10 (20) beat Norman Tate. The final score finished Cranny 11 White Ensign 1.

Morgans were hosts to Prince Edward B but were 5-1 behind at the break with only John Elliott x16 (32)

getting the double in the first triples. Finishers for the Prince were Stevie Buckett x2 (4), x20 (63), Micky Butler

x16 (32), Stevie Buckett x2 (4) and Mark Sleightholme x16 (35). Micky Butler x2 (4) made it 6-1 as he beat Brian

Mulvain however a win for John Elliott x8 (50) against Stevie Hales reduced the deficit. Four straight wins for

the hosts however secured the victory as Davey Boulter x20 (56) beat Terry Power, Stevie Buckett x16 (32)

with four checkouts beat Jamie McNaney, Chris Allen x20 (40) beat Paul Gilmour and Mark Sleightholme x20

(40) beat Dean Ford to make the final score Morgans 2 Prince Edward B 10.

Voyager A were visitors to Marsden Inn with the hosts 4-2 ahead at the break. Liam Wardley x16 (62) and

Martin Goddard x12 (24) finished the first two pairs for the Voyager with Ronnie Thomas x15 (30), Chris

Bennett x8 (16), Ronnie Thomas x8 (16) and Sean Foster x15 (30) replying. Darren Habbershaw (180) x10 (30)

made it 5-2 as he beat John McIlroy with team-mate Chris Bennett x6 (13) also winning against Liam Wardley.

Gary Reay x12 (24) secured victory as he beat Geoff Calvert with Anth Allsop x19 (97) also winning in 18 darts

against Martin Goddard. David Grundy x3 (6) pulled a leg back against Sean Foster however Ronnie Thomas x1

(2) secured the last leg against tony Mohammed to make the final score Marsden Inn 9 Voyager A 3.

Red Hackle B hosted Green Baize Nomads and were 4-2 to the good after only dropping the first triples and

second pairs. Craig Sykes x8 (16) and Anthony Lee x20 (40) got the Nomads finishes with Ray Pearce x18 (36),

Stephen Jones x16 (32), Ray Pearce x6 (12), and Aaron Fontaine x8 (16) finishing. David Smith x1 (2) made it 4-

3 as he beat Ian Kelly however Ray Pearce x8 (16) beat Craig Sykes. George Slight x4 (8) made it 5-4 as he beat

Steven Sams though Stephen Jones x20 (40) beat Anthony Lee to restore the two-leg advantage. Aaron

Fontaine x1 (2) then secured the victory against Willie Sykes with team-mate Ronnie Stidolph x7 (14) beating

John Bennett to make the final score Red Hackle B 8 Green Baize Nomads 4.

The final match finished Green Baize A 2 Boldon Lad 10.

Division Two Champions Vigilant Inn are off to a great start to their maiden Division One campaign as they won

for the second time in two games this time against visitors the Wouldhave. It was the Woody lads who struck

first as Davey Richardson x20 (60) finished however Billy Keenan x12 (24) and Trevor Collins x10 (20) put the

hosts 2-1 up. John Ramsay x8 (16) levelled the scores however Trevor Collins x20 (64) and Colin Drake x20 (40)

put the Vig 4-2 ahead. John Ramsay x16 (32) reduced the lead when he beat Davey Turner though it was soon

a two-leg advantage again as Billy Keenan x20 (47) beat Craig Gotts. Stan Elliott x10 (20) then made it 6-3 as he

beat Davey Richardson with team-mate Trevor Collins x20 (76) securing the victory as he beat Peter Gotts. Bob

Compton x4 (8) also won against Warrick Rochester to make it 8-3 with Davey Whitehead x10 (46) pulling back

the last leg against Colin Drake to make the final score Vigilant Inn 8 Wouldhave 4.

Westoe Bar were hosts to Prince Edward A with Peter Bassett x16 (92), Micky Mizen x1 (2) and Keith Nicholson

x15 (30) putting the hosts 3-0 up. Gary Thorius x10 (20) got the Prince’s first point in the first pairs however

Peter Bassett x2 (4) and Paul Hunter x16 (32) made it 5-1. Gary Thorius x16 (52) got the Prince lads back to 5-2

as he beat Micky Mizen however wins for Paul Johnson x4 (16) against Chris Coulson and Peter Bassett x5 (20)

with a 17-dart leg against Donny Yorston secured the victory. Joe Clark x4 (8) pulled another leg back against

Davey Barnes however wins for Keith Nicholson x10 (20) over Brian Rogerson and Paul Hunter x4 (28) against

Martin Auty made the final score Westoe Bar 9 Prince Edward A 3.

Early leaders Westoe Room Originals travelled the short distance to Buzzers Sports Bar who came it guns

blazing as they took the opening two legs, Paul Hawthorne x4 (8) and James Main x8 (16) finishing. The

Originals however staged a comeback against a very good Buzzers side as Alain Tame x20 (40), Lenny

Stephenson x20 (40), David Hayes Jr x2 (4) and Alain Tame x7 (14) finished to lead 4-2.

Lenny Stephenson x20 (40) made it

5-2 as he beat Robert Pascoe with

team-mate John McManemy x2 (25)

also winning against David Bell. The

points were then secured as new boy

Gary Thompson took out a 100 finish

with two double tops when he beat

James Main and it was soon 8-2 as

David Hayes Jr x2 (4) beat Liam

Wasmuth. Stevie Burns x8 (19) got

the hosts only singles leg as he beat

Originals 9, as the Originals go four

points clear.

Alain Tame hit three doubles for leaders Westoe Room Originals

Bridge Hotel were visitors to the Steamboat with Ian Jowsey x20 (48) putting them 1-0 ahead. Derek Hardie x1

(2) levelled however Alan Shaw x8 (16), Bernie Massingham x1 (2) and Alan Shaw x7 (14) gave the Bridge a 4-1

lead. John Green x3 (6) made it 4-2 going into the singles. Steve Booth x20 (60) then made it 4-3 as he beat

Frank Abundo and the scores were soon level as Chris Allen x16 (50) beat Bernie Massingham. Derek Hardie

x10 (40) then put the hosts ahead for the first time as he beat Chris Ward only for Alan Shaw x8 (80) to level

against Brian Booth. Douglas Hart x16 (32) then put the Bridge back ahead as he beat John Green. The match

however finished level as Brian Clifford x1 (3) beat Ian Jowsey to make the final score Steamboat 6 Bridge

Hotel 6.

Legion Bar were visitors to promoted Trimmers Arms with Shaun Wilson x4 (8) putting Trimmers 1-0 ahead.

Stephen Tate x20 (40) levelled with James Coffey x20 (40) putting the hosts back in front. Stephen Tate x1 (2)

again levelled only for Shaun Wilson x20 (40) and James Coffey x1 (3) giving Trimmers a 4-2 advantage.

Stephen Tate x1 (3) made it 4-3 as he beat Willie Smyllie though Chris Scurfield x2 (4) beat Jackie Stephenson

to restore the two leg advantage. Neil Drummond x8 (76) made it 5-4 as he beat Keith Tinmouth however it

was soon 6-4 as Shaun Wilson x1 (2) beat Colin Hume. James Coffey x10 (20) then secured the Trimmers first

victory in their first season in the top flight as he beat George Coser however a win for Allan Drummond x16

(32) against Darren Arnold made the final score Trimmers Arms 7 Legion Bar 5.

Last year’s runners-up Kennedys A had the bye with defending champions Red Hackle A only able to filed three

players giving visitors Voyager B a 12-0 walkover. Unfortunately it is now looking very grim for the Hackle lads

who may be forced to resign from the league having lost a number of players.

In Division Two Cranny are the early leaders with a six-point advantage at the top as they beat hosts Green

Baize Nomads 11-1.

Marsden Inn have also enjoyed a good start as they beat visitors Red Hackle B 7-5. Shane Mycock x10 (20)

gave the hosts a 1-0 lead before ray Pearce x16 (32) levelled however Darren Habbershaw x10 (20) and Jordan

Rossiter x20 (40) made it 3-1 to the Inn before ray Pearce x12 (24) reduced the deficit. Darren Habbershaw x16

(59) restored the two-leg advantage as he finished in the final pairs. Jordan Rossiter x4 (8) extended the lead

against Stephen Jones with Chris Bennett (180) x10 (60) also winning against Ian Kelly to make it 6-2.A run of

three legs put the Hackle lads back in contention as Ray Pearce x16 (32) beat Shane Mycock, Aaron Fontaine

x8 (16) beat Anth Allsop and Micky Overend x1 (2) beat Gary Reay. Darren Habbershaw x4 (8) however beat

Dan Carr to secure victory as the score finished Marsden Inn 7 Red Hackle B 5.

Prince Edward B hosted Boldon Lad with Chris Allen x20 (40) giving them the lead, Steve Cavanagh x16 (42)

and Paul Lambert Jr x5 (20) put the Lad ahead as they finished the triples. Chris Hughes x2 (4) levelled the

scores and Stevie Buckett x18 (71) put them ahead before Paul Lambert Jr x16 (48) levelled. Steve Cavanagh x4

(25) gave the Boldon lads the lead as he beat Stevie Hale only for Chris Hughes x4 (8) to level against Paul

Lambert Sr. Phil Armstrong (180) x5 (10) then made it 5-4 to Boldon with team-mate Brian McKenna x20 (40)

extending the lead to 6-4 as he beat Davey Boulter. Chris Allen x20 (52) made it 6-5 as he beat Paul Lambert Jr

and team-mate Mark Sleightholme x1 (5) secured the draw as he beat Eddie Gutteridge to make the final score

Prince Edward B 6 Boldon Lad 6 to leave both teams joint third on 19 points.

Voyager A hosted the County Hotel with Lee McKeith x20 (65) giving the hosts the lead before Shaun Clements

x8 (16) levelled. The Voyager were soon 5-1 to the good as Darren McKeith x20 (50), John McIlroy x1 (20), Liam

Wardley x4 (8) and Lee McKeith x8 (16) finished. John McIlroy x4 (16) made it 6-1 against Alan Hoare with

team-mate Carson McKeith x2 (5) securing victory against Peter Scott. Geoff Calvert x1 (2) made it 8-1 as he

beat Shaun Clements before Danny Hurst x8 (16) beat Liam Wardley and team-mate Carl Costello x18 (36) beat

Darren McKeith. Lee McKeith x6 (12) secured the last leg against Billy Pennock as the final score finished

Voyager A 9 County Hotel 3.

Mariner awaiting a merger with Whiteheads Social Club were only able to field four players however did

extremely well to secure four legs. Unfortunately the result card was not completed properly however the first

four legs went with the throw before Green Baize A went ahead 3-2 and then 4-2 after a walkover in the final

pairs. Alfie Maine x20 made it 4-3 as he beat Ian Thompson however Paul Ali beat Mike Murrell on the bull to

make it 5-3. Alastair Burgess x15 made it 5-4 as he beat Gavin Simpson before Anthony Lee x16 beat Billy

Jordan to make it 6-4. The final legs were walkovers for Dougy Elliott and Gavin Lee Simpson making the final

score Mariner 4 Green Baize A 8. The Mariner are to be thanked for playing the game short-handed whilst

awaiting the merger.

The final match featured White Ensign at home to Morgan’s with the visitors 3-0 ahead as Paul Elliott x2 (4), x2

(4) and Jamie McNaney finished. Connor Jary x8 (16) pulled a leg back however it was soon 5-1 as Dean Ford

x1 (2) and Paul Gilmour x1 (2) finished. Paul Gilmour x1 (2) made it 6-1 as he beat Steve Gray and Brian

Mulvain x16 (52) secured the victory as he beat Connor Jary. The next three legs went the way of the hosts as

Norman Tate x3 (6) beat Paul Elliott, Stewart Henderson x2 (4) beat Dean Ford and Kenny Gray x2 (58) beat

Jamie McNaney. John Elliott x6 (12) secured the last leg for the visitors as he beat Peter Goodsir to make the

final score White Ensign 4 Morgan’s 8.

Group One:

Westoe Room Originals v Prince Edward B; Boldon Lad v Buzzers Sports Bar; and Westoe Bar the bye.

Group Three:

Steamboat v Voyager A; Wouldhave v Red Hackle A; Voyager B v Mariner; and Vigilant Inn the bye.

Group Four:

Legion Bar v County Hotel; Marsden Inn v Bridge Hotel; and Red Hackle B and Prince Edward A the byes.

ORA League Cup Round 01: Monday 25 January 2016

In Group One newcomers Green Baize A of Division Two hosted Kennedys A with Jeff Gibson x6 (24) giving the

visitors the lead however the Baize were soon level as Gavin Lee Simpson x8 (22) checked out. Ernie Hudson

x10 (40) got the visitors back in front only for Paul Ali x10 (41) to level. Ernie Hudson x20 (97) made it 3-2 and

it was soon 4-2 to the Division One side as Norman Davison x16 (48) finished. Jeff Gibson x16 (64) beat Gavin

Lee Simpson to make it 5-2 with team-mate Stevie Armstrong x5 (40) also winning against Paul Ali. Gavin

Andrew Simpson x20 (52) pulled a leg back when he beat Brian Abdou however Ernie Hudson x4 (8) beat Doug

Fontaine to secure the victory. Team-mate Norman Davison hit an excellent 17-dart leg as he took out double

8 with a 32 finish against Doug Elliott. The last leg also went the visitors way as Derek Gibson x20 (90) beat

Albert Watson.

White Ensign hosted early Division Two leaders Cranny who raced into a 3-0 lead as Brett Sykes x10 (20),

Steven Adams x20 (40) and Mark Stephenson x20 (60) all finished. Norman Tate x19 (38) pulled a leg back

before Chris Stephenson x3 (6) restored the three leg advantage. It was soon 4-2 as Kenny Gray x20 (78)

finished the final pairs. Norman Tate x3 (6) made it 4-3 as he beat Steven Adams and team-mate Steve Gray

x11 (22) levelled as he beat Brett Sykes. Stewart Henderson x3 (12) then made it 5-4 to the Ensign as he beat

Chris Stephenson before Mark Harrison x10 (20) levelled against Connor Jary. Kenny Gray x10 (20) gave the

hosts the advantage as he beat Andrew Hansen with team-mate Dean Adamson x3 (6) securing victory against

Mark Stephenson as the final score finished White Ensign 7 Cranny 5.

Trimmers Arms were visitors to Morgans and were 2-0 ahead as James Coffey x7 (14) and Shaun Wilson with

an excellent 116 on double 19 finished. John Elliott x8 (35) reduced the deficit however it was soon 4-1 as

Darren Arnold x5 (10) and James Coffey x5 (10) finished. Brian Mulvain x20 (56) made it 4-2 going into the

singles. Darren Arnold x20 (70) then made it 5-2 as he beat Dean Ford however Paul Rutland x10 (20) reduced

the deficit as he beat David Davies. Shaun Wilson x10 (20) beat Jamie McNaney to make it 6-3 with team-mate

James Coffey x20 (40) securing victory as he beat John Elliott. Brian Mulvain x10 (20) reduced the deficit as he

beat Willie Smyllie however Keith Tinmouth x1 (2) beat John Black to make the final score Morgans 4 Trimmers

Arms 8. Green Baize Nomads had the bye in the 7-team group.

Two the first game was between hosts

Division Two Boldon Lad hosted Buzzers and it was the hosts who raced into a 4-0 lead against their Division

The Westoe Bar took full advantage of their neighbour’s demise as they hosted Legion Bar. Dave Allen x3 (6)

16 edged the Westoe lads in front. Colin Hume x20 (40) however restored parity before Davey Barnes x16 (49)

The Red Hackle Triples preliminary rounds were played at eight venues across the town with the first venue

played at the White Ensign. The format for the competition was best of 3 x 901. Unfortunately there were two

no shows: Westoe Bar 2 and Buzzers Sports Bar 2 so this left four teams to play off for the one qualifying spot.

Round One Results: Harton & Westoe Nomads 2 (George Slight, Dave Mc Donald, Willie Sykes, Eddie Witherall)

lost 2-0 against last year’s runners-up Kennedys A1 (Derek Gibson, Jeff Gibson, Gary Gibson, Ian Gordon); and
