the 15 specifiers at the meeting and I was happy with the growth. I’m hoping that it can continue and I’m look-ing forward to hitting that 20 mark sometime this year. During our board meeting this past month we discussed some of the certifications that ASPE national offers to the membership, CPD, CPDT and Green Plumbing De-sign Certificate. Below is a brief description of the GPD certificate and there is an upcoming 2 day GPD work-shop to be held in the Baltimore MD on January 18-19 2016. This workshop and certification is open to CPD individu- als. The Green Plumbing Design (GPD) certificate program, sponsored by the American Society of Plumbing Engi-neers and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, is for engineers and designers with advanced skills in sustainable plumbing system design and consulting. Available only for engineers and design-ers who hold either the Certified in Plumbing De-sign (CPD) certification or a Professional Engineer (PE) license, the GPD certificate denotes professionals with a high level of experience and training in sustainable practices. The GPD designation signifies professionals who are dedicated to ensuring the efficient use of our precious water resources via water-conserving plumb-ing system designs for commercial and residential appli-cations. The CPD and CPDT information can be found on the national website which is linked through our local chap-ter. The 2016 CPD exam dates are Thursday, March 31 and Friday, April 1, 2016 with exam registration be-ginning on Monday, January 4, 2016. There is a review manual for purchase on the national website as well. These Certifications are known internationally and serve as proof that you are a competent and knowledgeable designer in the plumbing engineering field. I encourage you to educate your firm or company leaders as to the benefits of having these certifications and how it could benefit them from a marketing perspective. I look forward to seeing everyone at our November meeting.

Written public comments for the adoption

of the 2015 National Standard Plumbing

Code were due by October 16th. We will

have to wait to see when it gets officially

adopted; it may not until the end of this

year. Once it is adopted there will be a 6

month grace period before it is mandatory.

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs' Divi-

sion of Codes and Standards launched ePlans, a web-

based electronic plan and document workflow solution

that automates the plan submission, review and approv-

al process through the use of digital files. ePlans allows

all stages of the review process to be transmitted elec-

tronically via the internet, thus eliminating paper-based

building and code review processes and reducing the

amount of time between plan submission and final ap-

proval. DCA has already had 2 online webinars to re-

view the process and will have more. Information about

ePlans can be found on the DCA Electronic Plan Review

website. The website has links to the User Guide and

log-in page for the process. It officially becomes manda-

tory on January 1, 2016. Existing projects already in for

review will remain paper based. One change to our title-

block drawings will be that we need to keep a 3” wide by

5” high blank area in the upper right hand corner of the

drawing available for the DCA approval stamp.

The one issue that is lagging behind the electronic filing

is the electronic signing and sealing process for the

Registered Architect or Professional Engineer to seal

the documents. The Engineering Board has already

submitted legislation for electronic signing and sealing

and it should be adopted by the end of the year. The

Architectural Board is developing legislation and is close

to submitting it. It will likely get adopted by February/

March of 2016. In the mean time Architects and Engi-

neers submitting documents using the ePlan filing will

have to send a hardcopy letter to DCA that is signed

and sealed stating they have prepared the plans being

submitted electronically and are signing and sealing

them. Once the electronic signing and sealing process

is adopted this will no longer be necessary.

Finally, please try to come out to our Chapter meetings;

it is a great time to meet other members and see what

ASPE is all about. You can also speak to other mem-

bers and talk about issues like the ePlans filing process.

The Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD) program is an international certification program for engineers and de-signers of plumbing systems. Completion of the CPD program and examination confers upon the successful candidate the designation Certified in Plumbing Design (CPD). The certification program provides the profes-sion, the plumbing industry, and the general public with a single, comprehensive qualification of professional competence for engineers and designers of plumbing systems.

The 2016 exam dates are Thursday, March 31 and

Friday, April 1, 2016.

Exam registration begins Monday, January 4, 2016 For complete information go to link https://www.aspe.org/CPD Come to NJASPE meeting on Tuesday December 15th and Wednesday January 13th to obtain information about the review class for the CPD exam

Let’s Get Technical By Dave Scofield

Our next monthly meeting is Tues-day November 17th at Dominic’s. The speaker will be Peter Gobis from Leonard Valve. Presentation is. Vacuum Recirculating Piping & Trou-ble-shooting, ASSE Standards for Mixing Valves, IPC/UPC Codes &

Lead Free. It is nice to see a good attendance for our last two meet-ings. We have a few new faces at each monthly meet-ing. To all those ASPE members that have not attended a monthly meeting in a while, try to make an effort to attend a few meetings this year. I am positive you will learn something new. We need more designers and en-gineers at the meetings. There are plenty of new products, Code changes, new or improved products we can all learn about. Plumbing design is evolving and we have to stay current to be good designers and engineers and give our clients the best we have to offer. Check out new webinar on Dec. 9 with discussions on changes to the medical gas and vacuum system re-quirements in the 2015 edition of NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code, as well as present a brief synopsis of new technologies in medical gas and vacuum systems. ASPE has Revit 2015 workshops in the next few months in Baltimore, Chicago and St. Louis for more information visit aspe.org/2016revit. I am always looking for Topics for future meetings. Please send me topic you are interested in and we will try our best to have them. We want you all to come to at least 3 meeting a year and bring someone with you.. Please visit our New ASPE Chapter website. www.new-jersey-aspe.org Our Monthly Newsletter is now posted on our NJ ASPE website. For those who missed the past few monthly newsletters, they are available on our website. We Hope to see you at a meeting or two this year you will not be disappointed.
