2016 MAAC VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS #2 Marist College
UP FOR THE CHALLENGE: For the first time all season, the MAAC will implement the NCAA Challenge Review System (instant replay) for all championship matches. A video review by the second referee can overturn the following challengeable calls: ball ruled in or out, ball contact-ed a player, net faults and service foot faults... Teams will receive three challenges per match that will not be linked to timeouts. Only the team that lost the rally may challenge and it must come from the head coach. A challenge must be requested before the first service after the play in which the challengeable action occurred.
TRUE TO NO. 2: The Red Foxes are the no. 2 seed in the MAAC Championships for the second consecutive year and were the regular season champions in 2014 when the tournament was hosted in Orlando, Florida... Marist had a first round bye last season before defeating no. 6 Niagara in the semifinals... The Red Foxes have competed in the MAAC Championship final the last three seasons.
SET UP FOR SUCCESS: Marist plays a lineup with two setters IN senior Amanda Schlegel and sophomore Taylor van der Biezen... Schlegel is fourth all time in Marist history with 2,760 assists. She has tallied 223 assists and 73 digs in her five career postseason matches... Schlegel established career highs of 61 assists against Iona (quarterfinal) and 21 digs against Fairfield (semifinal) in the 2014 MAAC Championships.... In 90 sets played this season, van der Biezen leads Marist with 542 assists... As a team, Marist is second in the MAAC in assists per set (11.73).
YOUNG ON THE ATTACK: Three Marist hitters have more than 200 kills this season, with fresh-man Megan Fergus leading the way with 280. Junior Kelsey Ediger (253) and sophomore Mack-enzie O’Brien (204) are the other two... The Red Foxes are second in the MAAC with 12.38 kills per set and third in opponent hitting percentage (.197).
SMOKIN ACES: Marist senior libero Lexi Millington is the NCAA active career leader in service aces with 205. The mark puts her second all time in program history and 37 behind Lindsey Schmid for most all time at Marist... Millington is 21st in the nation with 44 service aces this year and 30th in the country in aces per set (0.42). She had tallied 68 service aces as a fresh-man in 2013 for the second most in program history in a single season.
DIGGING DEEP: Lexi Millington is second in the MAAC in 2016 averaging 4.77 digs per set. She set the single-season program record in digs during the conference tournament last season, finishing with 557.
STRONG LEADERSHIP: Marist Head Coach Lauren Amundson is one of only three female coaches in the MAAC. For the second straight year she is the only female head coach to advance to the MAAC Championships... Now in her second season, Amundson is 34-26 overall with the Red Foxes including 25-11 in conference play.

Lauren Amundson was hired as head coach of the Marist volleyball program on March 27, 2015. In her first season as head coach of the Red Foxes, Amundson led her team to a first round bye in the MAAC Championships and an appear-ance in the final for the third consecutive year.
Amundson came to Marist after leading Stonehill College to its greatest level of success in program history. In six seasons as head coach of the Skyhawks, Amundson had an overall record of 110-68 (.618), with a mark of 61-27 (.693) in North-east-10 Conference play. She led the Skyhawks to their first two appearances in the Division II NCAA Tournament.
In addition to reaching the NCAA Tournament, Stonehill won a share of its first North-east-10 regular season championship in program history in 2014. The Skyhawks went 21-8 overall and 11-3 in conference play.
Amundson’s student-athletes have also performed in the classroom and become a vital part of the campus community in her tenure at Stonehill. The Skyhawks earned the AVCA Team Academic Award in 2011 and have produced six Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honorees with over 60 percent of the team earning Athletic Director’s Honor Roll status at the College for having a semester grade point average of 3.20 or higher.
Amundson enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, where she holds the program’s single match (71), season (1,592) and career records (5,506) for assists. Amundson played scholastically at Stanwood High School in Stanwood, Washington, where she was named valedictorian of the Class of 2003.
A 2007 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Christian Brothers University with a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, Amundson received her Master’s of Business Administration from Bryant in the summer of 2009.
