How was Tahoe formed?

If Lake Tahoe were drained, it would cover the entire State of California with 14 inches of water! It would take 700

years to naturally refill.

There are 63 stream inlets to Tahoe, and only 1 outlet in Tahoe City via the

Truckee River.

Campfires are permitted within developed recreation sites only if the fire is contained within a metal campfire ring or barbeque grill provided by the Forest Service, provided there are no fire restricitons in place. Campfires are allowed with a valid campfire permit in designated Forest Service areas (follow all fire restrictions). For a more detailed description of the Forest Service

campfire policy at Lake Tahoe, read the current Lake Tahoe Basin’s Campfire and Fire Restriction Orders available on the LTBMU website www.fs.usda.gov/goto/ltbmu/FireRestrictions.

Having a fun and safe season in Lake Tahoe requires everyone to be bear aware. Bears have an incredible sense of smell and are very attracted to human foods. Feeding a bear is illegal and can result in a bear being killed. Violators can be cited.

neVer:• Leave food in your tent or car• Leave food unattended at

your picnic table• Use fire rings to burn garbage• Approach or feed a bear
