ThUE BAPTIST M]ESSFNGFR January 2016 What possibilities! What amazing opportunities! There is a whole year of stuff in front of you that is all yours to do with as you please. You have 483,840 minutes all to your discretion on how to use. You could pop 215,040 bags of microwave popcorn. You could listen to my last sermon of 2015 15,120 times. You could cook 96,768 pots of 5-minute rice. It’s not just time you have to spend. YOLI have money too. Every dollar that you earn in 2016 is right now unspent. No bills have been paid, no charity given, nothing. Whctt ui/i \‘Ott do wit/i a/i that iou have? Now you may say, “What a minute Scott. All of that time isn’t really free, and most of my money is already obligated.” That may seem true only because you have already made decisions about that time and money. You may think you have rent or a mortgage to pay. If you choose to live where you are- then you do. But the choice is still yours. You have placed a value on living indoors where you are now. You may think much of your time belongs to your employer. If you want to keep working- then it does. But the choice is yours. You have placed a value on continuing to work. And that’s the point. Every day, in all sorts of ways. we spend time, money and energy on what we value most. And we do not give those things to what we value less. You will do what you want to do. If you want to buy food for your family then you will do things which provide for that value. If you want time to serve in church then you will make decisions to provide for that value. But one thing is guaranteed... you cannot do ALL of the things you think are good. We just don’t have enough time, money and/or energy to do it all. So we all say “Yes” to some things, and “No” to other things; even when all the choices are “good.” (ConhinticI on pagc 7)

‘Twas the Light Before ChristmasThank You

On Saturday, December 1 9, our church was filled with thelaughter and giggles of more than 85 children and their

families as they came to celebrate the birth of Jesus withsongs, gifts and a play that the children themselves

presented. In total, more than 130 children receivedChristmas gifts.

Thank you, FBC family. Through your generosity of timeand gifts, you helped to make Christmas brighter and

filled with Jesus for these families.

“Matthew 19:14

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinderthem, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”l

It was wonderful to see our kids participating in our services a couple special timesin December. On the Sunday before Christmas. they worshiped in church with (heirfamilies and then sat with Pastor Scott for a special message just to them. Then theywent out to their own Christmas Party with food. cralls and even a Christmas Starpiñata! On Christmas Eve, during one service, the kids searched like the Wise Mendid and they found candles so everyone could know the Light of the World washorn. Then they gave each person in church a candle so the Word would spread. They helped tmnish our service by leading the congregation in the great message to“Go! Tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is horn.”

In January we will continue to build up the Teain that serves our kids. There will hi’more development and educational opportunities. Everyone is welcome to learnmore about our curriculum and about generally being with the kids and helping outat our meeting on January 17 at 9:45. during the Education Hour. in the APR (theroom across from the nursery). This is a great place to ask questions, to learn aboutChildren’s’ Ministry and to become a part of the team.

Tuesday, 10 am Men’s Bible Study

Holy Spirit before Genesis and after Revelation Starts.Join us Tuesday, January 5, 2016, with Rev. Jim Sheldon

fleçtiig: There is a Bible based expression: “Iron sharpens Iron”. The men inthis study group were digging deeper into Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount,“sharpening” over the last several weeks in their understanding of Jesus’teaching. For example:

The sequencing of the topics in the I3eatitudes, verses 5:2 — 12, does notappear random, hut linked together in a logical sequence: verse 3 poor inspirit: verse 4 mourn; verse 5 meek; verse 6 I-lunger and thirst: verse 7merciful: verse 8 pure in heart: verse 9 peacemakers: verse 10 persecuted;verse II reviled and all kinds of ei1 against you thisely oti My account.

• This sequence starts at the core of a person and moves through basicaspects of life towards the quality of righteous living we need to pursue, but then puts this pursuit into perspective with the presence of an evilworld, concluding with verse 12 where we are to rejoice and he glad as theprophets of old were also persecuted before us.

Looking ahead: The Holy Spirit was before time. ministered during time, ministers in our time, will minister in the future, and will exist after time. “GetSharpened” by His ministry with us.

There is alot of learning going on as we move forward hut we have been trusting God allthe way.2015 has come to a close after what was a successful year and we enter 2016excited about the possibilities that are ahead. Our desire is not only to have funand games (although we want that) hut more to impact men’s likes for JesusChrist. The breakfast we have each month is the starting point as we get to knoeach other and see how far that takes us.FBC not only has the call to reach our men hut also those outside oCFBC.Emmanuel “God with us” is what we sand on tbr 2016.

So take some time to evaluate how you make decisions. What are thosehighest values in your mind and heart? Let God speak into your life Hisopinion on what matters most. Certainly He knows best.

God Bless You.

God At Work...

For the past six months, I have been suffering with a torn ligament, arthritis, andtwo hones that do not fIt together in my right ankle. My orthopedist prescribed anArizona Brace. and I have been using a cane lbr support. hut the pain continued.

I believe in miraculous healing. I have seen people healed in my own Ilirnily, hut]was having a hard time claiming God’s word for msclf. Like the father that askedJesus to heal his son, I hake been saying, “1 believe, help me overcome myunbelief.”

On December John Tatum asked me if I ever had my ankle prayed over. Isaid no. He suggested I ask someone to pray for my healing at the prayer servicethat evening. I didn’t do so because I was uncomfortable asking for healing formyselt On Sunday, December 27w. as I entered the church, John asked me againif I had asked anyone to pray over my ankle. When I said no. he immediatelycalled the worship team to pray for my healing. Amy Motley took the lead andheld my ankle as she prayed. My ankle immediately felt stronger and I was able toput weight on it with no pain. Afterwards, I walked away holding my cane withoutusing it for support. During the worship service, I kept twisting and turning myankle in different positions, and still had no pain. At that time, I accepted that Godhad healed my ankle. After the service, just to test it out again. I ran to the car --

without any pain.

God is awesome. I praise him l’or healing me in spite of my unbelief.By Lrrol Thomas

MISSIONS NEWS

Another Year Over—A New one Just Begun.

What a great year it was!----And we are excited already about 2016.

1 would like to tell you. as the Missions Director, 2015 was the most activeyear we have had since I stepped into this position. Here’s a list of whathappened:

Visiting Missionaries. Usually then’ are 2 or 3 missiOnafles that visit &share each year. In 2015. there were 7! Those missionaries included theHildebrands. Doyles. Vanworths. Matusiks. Clemmers. MacArthurs. andAnna Farrow. for 2016, 1 already know of 2 missionaries who are planningto come and share!

Our Short Term mission trips expanded from I to 2 trips. Both were in theManasquan area with work being done in Toms River and Barnegat. (iod putit on the hearts ot older and younger people to go: each and everyone wastouched and had fantastic stories to share. In 2016, will you he called to goon a short term trip’?

Annual Pr4jects 31 Book Bags were made. 20 Blankets were distributed tothose in need, and 23 Baskets of Blessings were made and distributed. Thishappened because. you. the congregation members. were willing to step upand help Ilnancially and/or with your hands. In 2016, we can only wait andsee how God moves your hearts.

One Time PrtIect known as the Ehola Kits project. Because ourcongregation gave more linancial support then expected. we were able toassemble 144 kits to he distributed in Airica through World Vision. Again.thank you. In 2016, the mission hoard is already discussing other potential“one time” projects. Wait & see.

The most exciting thing for 2t)16 has happened because of you.

Because of your financial support in 2015 we have made changes to our 2016support levels. Can’t really share this until aller the annual business meetingand our budget is approved. hut, we look lbrward to real blessings ahead.

Enjoy your new year.
