Technical Committees: Nearly thirty committees will meet to advance the HI’s standards and guideline writing efforts. See the Conference Agenda for a complete listing.

West Closure Complex Tour: The West Closure Complex is part of the overhaul of the metro New Orleans hurricane levee sys-tem that Congress authorized after Hurricane Katrina. The upgraded system is designed to keep out surges caused by a so-called 100-year storm, one with a 1 percent chance of hitting in any year. The system is also designed to significantly reduce flooding from even larger storms. The closure’s 11 pumps can fill an Olympic swimming pool in four seconds, making it the largest drainage pump station in the world. It also includes a 225-foot navigable floodgate. The tour is open to all registered attendees of the Fall Conference who sign up and round trip transportation will be provided.

Pump Knowledge Workshop: VFD Induced Shaft Currents - Causes and How to Fix Them: Sometimes, when mo-tors are driven by a variable frequency drive, a voltage can be induced onto the motor’s shaft. If this voltage discharges through the motor’s bearings, the bearings may be damaged. This presentation will investigate the cause of this voltage, show how to diagnose the problem, and present several methods of avoiding bearing damage. Led by:

• Timothy Albers, Director of Marketing & Product Management, Nidec Motor Corporation• Ken Fonstad, HVAC Sales/Application Support & Principal Engineer, ABB LV Drives US• Timothy Jasina, Engineering Team Leader & Senior Application Engineer, Industrial Bearing Technology, NSK Corporation

Educational Marketing Steering Committee (EMSC): Develop new training programs with the growing Educational Mar-keting Steering Committee (EMSC).

Pump Systems Assessment Certificate Program: Learn more about the new Pump Systems Assessment Certificate Program and how it can grow your business.

Pump Systems Optimization: Coming in Q4 2016, a new Pump Systems Optimization Course engineered exclusively for the commercial buildings marketplace - Review the rough draft and be part of the development process.

CEO Roundtable: Be a part of the exclusive Hydraulic Institute CEO Roundtable venue designed by and for Executive Management. The agenda includes topics such as Pump Test Lab/Label – A Strategy to Grow the Market, HI’s Advocacy Agenda and Export Control Issues. GENERAL SESSION EVENTS (Refer to Conference Agenda for dates and times)

Lunch Presentation: Hot Topics in International Trade, Eric McClafferty, Partner, Kelley Drye & Warren LLPThe U.S. government is letting foreign subsidiaries of U.S. companies do business in Iran, companies are now allowed to ship some products to Cuba or set up offices there, and there are now severe restrictions on doing business in the Russian oil and gas sec-tor. Other proposed changes affect where and how engineering data can be stored in the cloud and on other parts of company’s IT systems. The Department of Justice and other enforcement agencies have also announced a commitment to going after company executives, rather than just companies, for violations of these complex rules. Please join us for a briefing on these hot international trade topics and more, along with a chance to discuss best practices.

End-User Perspective Panel Session: Water/Wastewater—Operational ChallengesThe first of two featured panel sessions is on water and wastewater and will focus on the latest challenges, approaches, practices, processes, techniques, and case studies within water and wastewater facilities. Panelists will each present a brief company over-view and pump-related issues and challenges. A moderated Q&A will follow allowing attendees to ask questions. Panelists include the following:

• Jason R. Kerns, PE, CDT, an Associate Vice President with HDR, a company that specializes in engineering, architecture, envi-ronmental and construction services

• John R. Monzon, P.E., Director of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – West in Marrero, LA. Attendees will also have an opportunity to tour his facility, the West Closure Complex, the following morning

• Mr. Mike Pittman, Owner of M.R. Pittman Group, LLC in New Orleans, a locally owned general contracting company that spe-cializes in heavy civil, commercial, and mechanical construction projects

End-User Perspective Panel Session: Oil & GasThe second panel session will focus on the oil and gas industry. Declining oil prices have taken their toll on the entire oil production industry. While the era of the megaproject and unhindered new construction may be over, companies are still looking for increased efficiencies and ways to improve existing pumping systems. Hear what the oil companies are looking for in terms of reliability, ef-ficiency and overall pump performance to keep their aging infrastructure running like new. Planned panelists include:

• Robert Jelley, PE, Machinery Engineer at the Chevron Pascagoula in Mississippi• David Keener, Machinery Reliability Analyst at Chevron Pascagoula Refinery• Michael Rhoades, Machinery Engineer at Chevron Pascagoula Refinery• Glenn McDugle is Staff Reliability Engineer at Enterprise Products

Prepare Today to Prevail Tomorrow, Gen. Russel Honoré, Commander of Joint Task Force Katrina & Global Preparedness AuthorityFrom global and domestic terrorist threats to natural disasters, we encounter new risks to our individual, community and economic security each day. And while we can’t predict what’s around the corner, we can prepare—because when faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, it is strong leadership guided by clarity of purpose and practical tactics for overcoming adversities that drive us to prevail—better prepared and more resilient. Enter Gen. Russel Honoré, who expertly connects his 3+ decades of military leadership—including his crucial role in managing New Orleans’ relief efforts post Hurricane Katrina—to the natural disasters and man-made tragedies dominating global headlines to reveal critical strategies for transforming individuals into leaders and helping organizations and communities effectively prepare, react, rebound and unify.
