A B L E N D O F TA S T E SVoice the enticing words bon appétit before dining aboard the Louisiane and pay homage to the refined French influence of our cuisine, which has been liberally swirled with traditional Southern recipes. This pleasing mélange reflects the Parisian sense of delicacy and the enthusiasm of New Orleans. Under the aegis of our Chef de Cuisine Regina Charboneau, herself a blend of Southern and French lineage, each meal becomes a celebration of life, each course a moment of sheer bliss and each bite an unforgettable sensation.

Afternoon tea with a lemon madeleine is the prelude to entering The Crescent Room for epicurean wonders ranging from Chicken with Roasted Squash Stuffing or Classic Escargot to a perfectly-prepared Chateaubriand or Fresh Gulf Shrimp with Cheese Grits. The symphony of indulgence reaches a culinary crescendo with a delicate French Vanilla Bean Soufflé or a decadent slice of Bourbon Pecan Pie. Naturally, dining is open seating, meaning you may dine when you choose with whomever you wish. For those who desire to be sated at any time of day, partake of our complimentary 24-hour room service, a vanishing luxury in today’s world.

C A S U A L E L E G A N C EThe Crescent Room, our opulent main restaurant, is a plush jewel box inset with sparkling chandeliers and is the center stage for each day’s culinary stars. A wheeled silver cart glides across the room, offering carved prime rib. Fine linens, gleaming cutlery and European-inspired china are the backdrop for white-gloved servers who anticipate every need with remarkable prescience.

THE VERANDA

R E F I N E D C A S U A L D I N I N GThe French know that one’s surroundings are as important as one’s meal, and in addition to The Crescent Room, we’ve provided a charming casual venue with cuisine to suit every mood. The Veranda is the very essence of a traditional French Bistro or eclectic sidewalk eatery in New Orleans’ French Quarter. Our Chef de Cuisine Regina Charboneau brings home-spun recipes and French culinary training to a stylish room with sweeping panoramic windows that ensure you never miss a moment of your voyage on America’s rivers.

M A D E T O O R D E RThe enticing aroma of made-to-order crêpes is the siren song of The Veranda, with both sweet and savory varieties. Sample an Épinard Omelet Crêpe for breakfast, a Truffled Mozzarella and Tomato Crêpe for lunch, then polish your meal off with a Bananas Foster Crêpe. From the rotisserie, you will be tempted by herb-crusted chicken so juicy and perfectly cooked that it falls off the bone. Of course, complimentary illy® coffees, Dammann Frères® loose-leaf teas, hot chocolate, lemonade, juices and soft drinks are available throughout the day.

A B O U N T I F U L S E L E C T I O NWhile rotisserie meats and an assortment of crêpes are The Veranda’s signatures, the extensive menu will please your palate in so many other delightful ways. Choose to begin the day with warm made-to-order Café du Monde Beignets created using the time-honored ingredients perfected by New Orleans’ legendary Café du Monde accompanied by their special blend of café au lait. Salade Niçoise or a Gulf Shrimp Po’boy entice the senses for lunch. For dinner, selections such as tender Filet Mignon, Oven-Poached Salmon with Dill Sauce, Veranda French Onion Soup, and Strawberry Cheesecake Crêpes are on the bill of fare. It’s no wonder that relaxed dining with panache is The Veranda’s forte.

A renowned chef and author, Regina Charboneau studied in Paris before opening celebrated restaurants to worldwide acclaim. She now brings her boundless creativity and stunning flavor pairings to French America Line to craft cuisine unmatched on America’s inland waterways.

A resident of Natchez, one of our most charming antebellum destinations, she got her start in San Francisco where she launched Regina’s at the Regis and later the award-winning Biscuits & Blues nightclub.

She returned to Natchez in 2001 and opened the

Twin Oaks Bed and Breakfast in a historic antebellum home dating to 1832, where she teaches cooking classes as well as serves as a warm, ebullient host. Her latest venture is King’s Tavern in Natchez, specializing in fresh farm-to-table selections. Under her deft touch, the dining experience on the Louisiane is elevated to an apogee of gastronomic pleasure.

T H E S O U N D S O F A N AT I O NThe rivers of America flow through a medley of sounds from the energizing jazz of New Orleans and electric zydeco of Southwest Louisiana to the rollicking blues of Memphis and the down-home bluegrass of Tennessee. Rock and roll takes on a different tone depending on its origins, while the soothing melodies of big band blend with today’s contemporary hits throughout America’s cities and towns. This vast tapestry is more than the heartbeat of a country. It is the soul of a nation.

Raise a craft beer or glass of Merlot to a jazz ensemble in the French Quarter Lounge, or find an acoustic guitarist playing a soft rock hit from the 1970s. With our special touch of unique and exclusive live entertainment, The Crescent Room is transformed each evening from an elegant dining venue to a stylish cabaret where talented performers hold court. Tap your toes to traditional big band numbers, standards from the great American songbook or even contemporary hits performed in the classic style of the 1950s.

E N T E R TA I N M E N T M E E T S C U LT U R EThe lands through which we travel also have stories to tell, and we’ve gathered a line-up of best-selling authors, noted historians, esteemed professors, and local characters to hold talks on a variety of cultural, historical and political subjects. You might discover how the Civil War influenced the electorate for generations or why most of what is considered American comfort food traces its roots to the staples of European immigrants of the 19th and 20th centuries.

French America Line embraces all the music and culture that represents the best of traditional story-telling and modern songwriters to create a sometimes eclectic, but always entertaining, experience as the Louisiane sails the inland waterways.

When you sail America with French America Line, something remarkable happens as a world of rich history and gracious traditions reveals itself. America is a land with remarkable depth, and we’re dedicated to taking you to both big cities and small towns. But travel is about more than just going places. We believe that travel is about experiencing the history, cuisine and culture of each destination in a way that expands the mind and lifts the spirit.

That’s why on each voyage we feature a noted Illuminator, available to satisfy your every curiosity and lead talks about broad, esoteric and fascinating subjects, ranging from the military ramifications of the Battle of Vicksburg to the roots of the Creole people. Discover the world of 19th century steamboats and the socio-economic implications of changes in agriculture on the Mississippi River Delta. Learn how the blues developed and delve into the history of classic American cocktails. Understand the nuances of barbecue styles and the Native American history of the Upper Midwest. From the arc of the legendary jazz greats to the religious underpinnings of Mardi Gras, our Illuminators will enrich and enlighten.

Each of our Illuminators is carefully chosen based on the region in which the Louisiane is sailing and the specific ports of call. For our guests, travel is a chance for edification as well as relaxation. Let our Illuminators light the path to deeper understanding.

E M B R A C E Y O U R S E N S E SAmerica’s spirit is as broad as the blue sky, as vast as the rolling hills and as restless as the ribbons of its mighty rivers. The Illuminator, our onboard historian, will interpret the social and cultural core of each region as the Louisiane sails into the heart of this great country to places that are a gentle reminder of times past and a look into visions of the future. A refreshing pitcher of lemonade sits next to a porch swing on a bright warm day. A docent answers questions about the works of art hanging in an acclaimed gallery. The fresh perfumed fragrance of magnolias or the crisp smoky scent of a fireplace is carried on the breeze. This is the America you’ve always wanted to see.

With our complimentary Traveler Collection shore excursions in each port of call, you won’t miss a moment of pleasure, since each tour includes a personal Vox® listening device to easily hear the narration. Gaze up at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, tour the ornate antebellum homes of Natchez and walk along Beale Street in Memphis to the sounds of blues and jazz. New Orleans’ French Quarter coyly divulges her charms while Hannibal’s cheeky boyhood antics will warm your heart. You can also explore independently in each port of call with complimentary bicycles, helmets and maps of local attractions.

T H E C U R AT O R C O L L E C T I O N ™

For guests who want an exclusive, in-depth look at a destination, our Curator Collection of tours, available for an additional charge, delve further behind the scenes to provide privileged and unforgettable experiences. Take a comprehensive tour of Graceland on the other side of the ropes and celebrate the legacy of Elvis Presley. Tour the legendary New Orleans warehouse where floats are created for Mardi Gras or sit down to an authentic barbecue in Tennessee. In a famed museum, be greeted by a special wine and cheese reception and take painting lessons from a local artist. With our Curator Collection, America comes alive just for you.

Our optional Curator Collection shore excursions uncover the spirit, personality and soul that make each city and town in America unique. Perhaps the best example of our Curator Collection tours can be found in Natchez, where we offer a visit to Twin Oaks, our Chef de Cuisine Regina Charboneau’s residence. This charming antebellum home dates to 1843 and features a six-room guest house and an ornate kitchen which is the stage for a cooking class taught by the culinary master herself. Learn that the secret to cooking perfect beignets is to let the oil come back up to temperature between batches, or observe the hot-skillet technique for a scrumptious corn, mushroom and onion tart. Depending on her inclination and the ingredients of the day, perhaps she will showcase her airy biscuits, which boast a special ratio of yeast and baking powder resulting in a cloud-like bite that is lighter and fluffier than you ever thought possible.

EXPLoRE THE GREAT oUTDooRS

RIDE THE RAILS

E X T E N D E D H O T E L S TAY SFor some, the joy of traveling America’s waterways is just one of the treasures to be found. Discover the explorer in you with a Prelude Package tour before or an Encore Package after your cruise aboard the Louisiane.

One of the greatest delights of traveling is the freedom to extend a vacation and to explore the places, cuisine and cultures that have fascinated others for generations. French America Line believes that choice is a luxury no one should do without and, therefore, we’ve crafted several opportunities to turn an elegant cruise tour into a grand adventure. Perhaps the easiest way to gain more time in your embarkation or disembarkation port is with a hotel stay. While a one-night pre-cruise hotel stay is included in your fare, many guests wish to have even more time to visit the bistros of New Orleans, the botanical gardens of St. Louis or the blues clubs of Memphis. With a Prelude Package, add extra nights and turn your pre-cruise hotel stay into a mini-vacation, or create a personalized hotel Encore Package and linger in your disembarkation port after your voyage concludes. The choice is all yours.

F A S C I N AT I N G T O U R O P T I O N SPerhaps you have more than just a few nights in mind and wish to see America by both riverboat and rail with an extended Prelude Package or Encore Package. Imagine heading toward Great Smoky Mountains National Park to explore the glorious colors and mystical atmosphere of the mountains as each vista unfolds before you with a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. Or you might find your inspiration in the great landscapes of the Southwest, reached by an epic train ride from St. Louis and culminating at the awe-inspiring beauty of the Grand Canyon, where the view stretches as far as your own imagination. Watch America whisk by the broad windows of the Southwest Chief as plains, mountains, small towns and big cities add their threads to the fabric of your time on the rails.

Soak in the splendor of autumn and travel along the Blue Ridge Parkway as you view the undulating tops of smoke-blue mountains extending off into the distance. The most popular park in America, Great Smoky Mountains National Park embraces man-made wonders and the never-to-be-forgotten joys of the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad as it weaves between incandescent red, yellow and orange leaves covering the trees that cling to the misty hills. This 7-day Prelude Package begins with an overnight stay in Atlanta followed by two nights in Asheville, North Carolina, and a visit to the fabled Biltmore Estate. Two nights at the Doubletree Park Vista Resort in Gatlinburg, Tennessee set the stage for complete sightseeing in Great Smoky Mountains National Park including a visit to isolated Cades Cove. Your adventure concludes with a night in Nashville, where you will then board the Louisiane the next day.

From your lodging on the coveted South Rim of the Grand Canyon, there is no sound but the echo of a hawk riding the air currents and the wind rustling through the scrub trees. Far below, the Colorado River cuts its timeless path through the rock and a geological layer cake of ochre, rose, mustard, taupe and amber flows across the canyon walls like the water across the canyon floor. From high above, the Grand Canyon will leave you utterly spellbound. On cruise tours ending in St. Louis, we offer a special 6-day Encore Package to the canyon by the Southwest Chief train that includes two nights at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel in Williams, Arizona, a ride on the Grand Canyon Railway to the edge of the canyon, and a night at the Grand Canyon South Rim Hotel. Guests can then continue on to Los Angeles or head east back to St. Louis or on to Chicago on the Southwest Chief.

THE CUMBERLAND RIVER

ALEXANDRIA, LA | Hear the tragic tale of Alexandria’s burning during the Civil War’s Red River Campaign, and the stories of the Louisiana Maneuvers, when over 500,000 men were trained in mock battles designed to prepare America’s soldiers for World War II. The historic Hotel Bentley, the “Biltmore on the Bayou,” was host to General Patton.

BATON ROUGE, LA | Clamber aboard the USS Kidd, an elegant WWII and Korean War veteran, before heading into the proud and lively capital of Louisiana. Take time at the new and old State Capitol buildings, both handsome and striking edifices in their own right.

CLARKSVILLE, TN | Alight in Tennessee’s first incorporated city, named after General George Rogers Clark, brother of William (of Lewis & Clark fame). Step back in time at Fort Defiance Civil War Park and its Interpretive Center, a must-see stop for history buffs.

DAVENPORT, IA | Appreciate the burgeoning cultural scene at this city founded on the site of the 1832 Black Hawk purchase, host to the yearly festival held in honor of local Bix Biederbecke, the “giant of cornetists”, and the excellent Figge Art Museum.

DOVER, TN | Surrender to the charm of Dover, unlike Confederate officer Nathan Bedford Forrest, who refused to give up his cavalry after a resounding Union victory. Wander through the park honoring Forrest, and revisit his exploits at Fort Donelson National Battlefield.

DUBUQUE, IA | Build up your knowledge of early river commerce much as the lumber barons built countless landmarks at this confluence of three states. Ride the Fenelon Place Elevator Co., a historic funicular that affords an unmatched view from atop the bluffs.

HANNIBAL, MO | Pay tribute to Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, at his Boyhood Home and Museum in this welcoming town. Reenact Tom and Huck’s exploits if you’re feeling mischievous, as Hannibal provided the setting for their quintessentially American adventures.

HELENA, AR | You’re sure to agree with Mark Twain’s assessment that Helena “occupies one of the prettiest situations on the Mississippi,” but there’s more than just looks to this hub of blues music, which features the lovingly reconstructed Civil War-era Fort Curtis.

HOUMAS HOUSE, LA | Be enchanted by this prosperous antebellum plantation estate and its inviting gardens, a wildly popular site for dream weddings and also the setting for the riveting Olivia de Havilland and Bette Davis film classic Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte.

LA CROSSE, WI | Survey three states atop towering Grandad Bluff, then discover the creative talents of the locals at the Pump House Regional Arts Center. And no visit is complete without a snapshot of the World’s Largest Six-Pack.

NATCHEZ, MS | Get lost among over 500 gallant antebellum buildings in this magnificent town, one of America’s most historically significant national treasures. Chat up the friendly locals in the thriving entertainment district, Natchez-Under-the-Hill.

NATCHITOCHES, LA | Relish the European and Creole flavors of the oldest settlement in Louisiana, where a vast array of landmarks await, which include the Kaffie-Frederick Mercantile Store, the oldest general store in Louisiana, and the Steel Magnolias movie filming sites.

NEW ORLEANS, LA | Amble along the festive streets of the “Big Easy”, where the scent of Creole dishes and the strains of jazz mingle within stately French Quarter homes, and hop on a streetcar to further uncover this most European of American cities.

OAK ALLEY, LA | Linger at one of the most photogenic sites in America, majestic Oak Alley Plantation, and stroll its allée, lined by 28 massive oaks more than 300 years old. Tour the Big House and investigate the buildings dotting the lovely grounds.

PADUCAH, KY | Picture 42,000 Union soldiers boarding 185 ships on their way upriver, and you’ll get a sense of the rich local history that is captured at the Floodwall Murals. See the Wacinton Sculpture honoring the Chickasaw Indians and tour the remarkable National Quilt Museum.

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WI | Contemplate 10,000 years of Native American history at this once bustling fur-trading center, now host to five National Historic Landmarks, including the Victorian stunner Villa Louis. Locals insist you stop by Valley Fish and Cheese for their mouthwatering victuals.

SHREVEPORT, LA | Explore the Municipal Auditorium, original home to the Louisiana Hayride show – forerunner to the Grand Ole Opry – and visit the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, featuring twenty-two impressive dioramas of Louisiana industry and agriculture, as well as fine examples of pottery and basketry from the state’s Native American tribes.

ST. LOUIS, MO | Wonder at the St. Louis Arch, an unequaled architectural statement that defines this storied town, then continue your architectural tour at the imposing Cathedral of St. Louis. Indulge a less lofty national pastime at the Anheuser-Busch brewery, an American classic.

ST. PAUL, MN | Admire the Cathedral of St. Paul, a beaux-arts wonder that emulates St. Peter’s in Rome, and soak in the arts at the city’s world-class museums, including the Walker Art Center. Detour to Minnehaha Falls, best known for Longfellow’s Song of Hiawatha.

VICKSBURG, MS | Hear the distant echoes of Ulysses S. Grant’s call to arms as he lay a 47-day siege to the city, and choose to tour the reverential Vicksburg National Military Park, which houses the ironclad USS Cairo, victim of the first torpedo.

WINONA, MN | Be awed by lofty Sugar Loaf, one of the most recognizable topographical landmarks along Minnesota’s bluff country. Find further inspiration at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, which features one of the two original versions of Leutze’s Washington Crossing the Delaware.

Information contained in this brochure or on the Web-site does not form part of any offer or contract. The transportation of passengers and baggage on French America Line’s vessels are provided solely by French America Line, and is governed by the terms and conditions printed on the Passage Contract. The Passage Contract will be included with your travel documents or is available on-line at: www.frenchamericaline.com and contains complete and important information regarding cancellations, itineraries, French America Line’s liability, health and immigration requirements, and other relevant terms and conditions. The terms and conditions of the Passage Contract will apply to persons who have booked a cruise regardless of whether or not they have embarked the vessel. Please read your Passage Contract carefully. To the extent that any of the information in the brochure conflicts with the terms of the Passage Contract, the terms and conditions contained in the Passage Contract shall control.

Itinerary arrival and departure times are always subject to change without notice. French America Line reserves the right to cancel, alter, advance, postpone or substitute any scheduled sailing or itinerary, substitute another vessel for the scheduled ship, or substitute or cancel scheduled ports of call, which, in its sole judgment and discretion, is justified for any reason, and to do so without liability for any loss whatsoever to passengers as a result of said change(s). Additionally, French America Line reserves the right to cancel reservations and bookings in the event of a full-ship charter, whether or not a deposit or full payment has been received, and in such event, French America Line’s only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received.

French America Line makes arrangements for transportation, other than cruise passage, only as a booking agent. French America Line’s responsibility does not extend beyond the vessel. In arranging for the transportation of passengers to and from the ship, French America Line does so with independent contractors. All schedules, fares, and terms and conditions listed in this brochure are effective as of April 2016 and supersede any schedules, prices, and terms and conditions previously published.

All fares indicated in this brochure, including land and hotel, are capacity controlled, subject to change at anytime without notice and do not guarantee availability. All are subject to change and/or cancellation without notice.
