Dear Colleagues,

Screening for Mental Health, Inc. (SMH) began its partnership with the Aspen Strong Foundation three years ago, in November of 2014. Starting out as a single screening site, the Aspen Strong screening initiative has developed into a multi-partner mental wellness campaign spreading throughout the Aspen region of Colorado. As the screening initiative has expanded, the necessity of a more involved, richer partnership has become evident. Aspen Strong is no longer a single site, but a network of community organizations that have come together to build an effective and impactful mental health awareness program from the foundations of SMH’s CommunityResponse® program.

With 1,491 online mental health screening under the Aspen Strong umbrella in the past year, the Aspen Strong screening initiative now ranks at #15 out of 172 community screening sites, including hospitals, clinical practitioners, awareness campaigns, and larger statewide mental health organizations. As Aspen Strong builds momentum, we anticipate even greater growth.

This report created by the CommunityResponse® team at SMH is intended to emphasize the successes of the Aspen Strong screening initiative throughout 2016, as well as provide valuable feedback for Aspen Strong as a map for the future of the initiative. We highlight screening metrics for all partner sites, amalgamate demographic data, examine online screening trends resulting from in-person events, and provide a short history of our partnership thus far.

SMH is excited to be your partner during this time of expansion and change in the Aspen Strong program. We look forward to our ongoing work to support the mission of Aspen Strong and to serve the needs of the communities of Roaring Fork Valley, Colorado.

Sincerely,

Jill Fontaine, M.Ed CommunityResponse & Contracts Program Manager Screening for Mental Health, Inc. (781) 591-5234 [email protected]

Cumulative Online Screening Metrics - Total 2016 (Jan 1 – Dec 31, 2016)

The online screening platform maintains the anonymity of its users so that individuals feel safe disclosing

their mental health information. However, the program collects screening numbers and statistics in order to

keep track of public health trends in the Aspen community. During the calendar year, 1,491 total screenings

were taken by all screening partner sites. The highest number of screenings occurred in October, National

Depression Awareness Month, with a pinnacle of 246 screenings.

Cumulative Aspen Strong Partner Metrics: Nov 2014-Dec 2016

Since November 2014, when the Aspen Strong Foundation’s online screening platform first went live, there has been a remarkable climb in screening numbers. Even without the addition of its partner organizations, the Aspen Strong Foundation alone has grown from 50 screenings at the end of 2014 to 286 screenings in 2015 (a 472% growth rate), to 956 screening (a 234% growth rate). Taking into account the addition of six partner screening sites in 2016 (five at the beginning of the year and one toward the end), the Aspen Strong screening initiative has grown by 421% from 2015 to 2016. The metrics and graph below illustrate the overall upward trend in screening numbers:

Online Screening Numbers: November 2014-December 2016 Total Cumulative Online Screenings: 1,827

o Total Screenings for 2014 (November-December): 50 o Total Screenings for 2015: 286 o Total Screenings for 2016: 1,491

Peaks in screening numbers typically occur along with mental health observances such as National Depression Awareness Month in October and Mental Health Month in May. It is interesting to note that while a clear peak occurs in the month of October in relation to National Depression Awareness Month, the peak related to May is Mental Health Month occurs in April, the month leading up to the event.

Conclusion

Moving forward into 2017, Screening for Mental Health, Inc. and the Aspen Strong screening initiative will continue to develop their growing partnership in order to enhance the impact of Aspen Strong’s mental health awareness and screening efforts. The online screening sites for The Aspen Clinic, Mountain Family Health Centers, and Valley Health Alliance were taken down on January 15th, 2017 after one year’s participation in the screening initiative. A new partner site, for Pitkin County, was added on January 1st, 2017. To complement the screening sites that are currently partnered with Aspen Strong, SMH is working on creating promotional wallet cards in English and Spanish branded to each partner. SMH is in the process of exploring ways to continue to build this synergetic promotional relationship, such as through customizable, branded resources and targeted marketing language. In 2017, SMH will also commence the development of comprehensive monthly reports specific to Aspen Strong, its message, and its ongoing needs. These reports will track screening data, highlighting patterns and trends that appear in the analytics and interpreting them in an accessible way in order to measure the ongoing impact of the screening initiative and explore areas of opportunity The team at SMH looks forward to working with the Aspen Strong team in the coming year to expand an already impressive program and facilitate a greater depth in its development.
