The 2015 season saw the Blue and Gold win a program-record 25 games under first-year Head Coach Kelsi Dunne. The Eagles will look to build on that success as they enter the NCAA Division II era in 2016.

“We are continuing to stay focused on creat-ing our championship culture by staying true to our program creed and the student-person-play-er model of development,” Dunne said. “We’re excited to be competing in a stellar athletic and academic conference and our goal every day is to stay focused on the process.”

With a roster of just 15 players, including sev-en newcomers, everyone on this year’s squad will be asked to contribute on a daily basis.

“We stay focused on the process each and every day we practice and compete in order to accomplish our team goals for the year,” Dunne said. “We aim to fill up our process board each game by controlling the things that we can con-trol. We want this team to be their best in order to leave their legacy for the future of our program.”

Robi Zimmerman leads a five-person senior class, the largest in program history. Zimmerman is one of four Eagles who have been a part of the program since the very beginning, along with Ha-leigh Lewis, Rae Heuer and Chanley Burge. Zim-merman batted .266 with four home runs and tied for the team lead with 27 RBIs last year. She also won eight games as a pitcher, posting a 3.06 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 123.1 innings pitched.

“Robi is naturally athletic and has shown the ability to be solid defensively for us all around the diamond,” Dunne stated. “She has also set the bar academically for the rest of the team.”

Lewis is also expected to be one of the team’s leaders this season. She hit .270 with three home runs, 23 runs scored and 18 RBIs a year ago.

“Haleigh is a playmaker and a gamer,” Dunne commented. “She loves the game of softball and her passion shows every time she steps on the field.”

Heuer and Burge provided depth in the out-field for the Blue and Gold last year, with Heuer collecting 10 hits and seven RBIs and Burge post-ing a pair of hits and two runs scored in limited playing time.

“Rae is an aggressive player and we have a lot of confidence in her every time the ball is hit to her,” Dunne remarked. “She is the ideal student and will represent our program positively after she graduates.”

“Chanley has great energy and is a great supporter of her teammates on the field. She has been an academic leader and has represented our team well on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.”

Rounding out the senior class is Raquelli Bianco. Bi-anco transferred to Emb-ry-Riddle prior to last season from Miami Dade College and made a tremendous impact in her first year with the Eagles. At the plate, she hit .291 with a team-best five home runs, 29 runs scored and 27 RBIs. In the circle, Bianco went 16-9 with a 3.03 ERA and a program-record seven shut-outs, striking out 103 batters in 154.2 innings of work. She

was named to the All-Sun Conference team after the regular season as well as the All-Tournament team at The Sun Conference Tournament.

“Raquelli has been the true utility player for us and excels wherever the team needs her,” Dunne commented. “She brings true leadership to our program and is a mentor for the rest of the team.”

Anna Battison is the lone returning junior this year. She had a breakout 2015 campaign, leading the club with a .363 batting average and a pro-gram-record 22 stolen bases, earning All-Confer-ence and NFCA All-Region accolades. She also scored 20 times and was a solid defensive catch-er, throwing out 10 of the 38 runners attempting to steal against her.

“Anna has great game instincts and is the lead-er of our defense behind the plate,” Dunne stated. “When she gets on base, she puts a ton of pres-sure on the defense because of her speed and aggressiveness.”

This year’s sophomore class includes Kailah Rain and Victoria Reed. Rain was selected as an All-Conference and NFCA All-Region perform-er in her freshman season, hitting .328 with 10 stolen bases and 20 runs scored. She was also a weapon in center field as she racked up a pro-gram-record eight outfield assists. Reed tallied 18 hits, 11 runs scored and eight RBIs, while posting a .344 on-base percentage in her first season.

“Kailah brings a lot of range in the outfield and a tremendous arm,” Dunne remarked. “She’s embracing her role as a slapper and is more of a threat offensively this year because of her place-ment and power.”

Eryn Chester and Alice Donohoe are both ju-nior transfers that make up two of the seven new-comers on the 2016 roster. While Chester is ex-pected to redshirt this season, Donohoe will likely see time some playing time at first base as well as in the circle. A native of Old Toongabbie, Australia, Donohe went 26-6 in two seasons at Odessa Col-

2016 SEASON PREVIEW

lege prior to transferring to Embry-Riddle.“We are looking forward to having a year to

work with Eryn before she competes in games for us next season,” Dunne said. “She’s full of poten-tial both offensively and defensively, and we think she’ll be a great addition to our program.”

“Alice has a great work ethic on the field,” Dunne remarked. “Every time she steps on the field, she gives it her all. She also has one of the best changeups I’ve ever seen.”

The freshmen class includes pitcher Kassidy Simons, infielder/catcher Gabriella Obia, outfield-ers Natalie Morales and McKenzee Quinn, and third baseman Hannah Thomas.

Simons is a graduate of Moorpark High School in Simi Valley, California, where she went 13-6 with a 0.92 ERA and 110 strikeouts as a senior. She also hit .405 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs in her junior season. Simons is expected to be one of the team’s top pitchers and will likely bat in the middle of the order.

“Kassidy has loads of potential,” Dunne stated. “We think she can be a leader for us both offen-sively and in the circle, and we’re excited to see what she can do.”

Obia comes to Embry-Riddle from the Neth-erlands, and is a 2013 graduate of OSG Willem Blaeu in Alkmaar. She provides some versatility for Dunne and the Eagles with her ability to play second base, third base and catcher.

“Gabi has shown us in the fall that she can be clutch for us offensively and also make some great defensive plays,” Dunne commented. “She also has a lot of potential and can play quite a few places around the field.”

Morales joins the Eagles from Houston, Texas, where she batted .368 and slugged .455 as a se-nior at Klein High School.

“Natalie is one of the hardest workers on the team,” Dunne said. “She is extremely selfless, a great teammate and always has a smile on her face.”

Quinn is a graduate of nearby Astronaut High School in Titusville and is the younger sister of Austin Quinn, a former All-American baseball player at Embry-Riddle. She hit .404 with a .574

slugging percentage in 2014 and fol-lowed that up with a .350

batting average as a

senior.“Mckenzee is a great student and displays tre-

mendous character,” Dunne stated. “She will be a great role player for us and is an all-around great teammate.”

Thomas comes to ERAU from Lewisberry, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Red Land High School. As a senior, Thomas hit .367. Dunne expects her to provide depth for the Ea-gles, primarily at third base.

“Hannah gives 110% in everything she does,” Dunne commented. “She always has a positive attitude and never complains. She is extremely selfless and the epitome of a great teammate.”

The 2016 season will see the Eagles return to their home field, the Embry-Riddle Softball Sta-dium, following a 2015 campaign that required them to move their home games to Daytona State College. With the construction of a brand-new grandstand and press box complete, the Blue and Gold will be spending a majority of the year play-ing in front of its home fans, with 35 home games on the slate.

The Eagles open up the 2016 campaign on an 11-game home stand, which kicks off with a doubleheader against Keiser (formerly known as Northwood) on Feb. 5. ERAU will follow that with two more doubleheaders against former Sun Con-ference rivals as South Carolina Beaufort visits on Feb. 12 and St. Thomas comes to town Feb. 13.

ERAU continues its season-opening stretch of games at home with its first-ever Sunshine State Conference series against Saint Leo Feb. 19-20. The home stand wraps up with a doubleheader against Dominican College on Feb. 23

After a weekend trip to Melbourne to face Flor-ida Tech in a three-game conference series Feb. 26-27, Embry-Riddle will return home for another stretch of 11 straight home games.

The second home stand begins with a double-header against Concordia (Minn.) on Feb. 29 and continues with another non-conference double-header against Ferris State on March 2.

Florida Southern visits the Embry-Riddle Soft-ball Stadium for a three-game series March 4-5 before the Eagles host non-conference double-

headers against American International (March 8) and Fisher (March 9).

The longest road trip of the season commenc-es with a three-game set at Tampa March 11-12 and concludes the following weekend with a con-ference series at fellow provisional SSC member Palm Beach Atlantic March 18-19.

The Eagles land back at home March 22 to host Mount Mercy in a doubleheader before host-ing Albany State in the final non-conference dou-bleheader of the year March 25.

The Blue and Gold will be off for a week be-fore returning to action at home against Lynn in a three-game series April 1-2.

ERAU travels to Miami Shores for a conference series at Barry April 8-9 before returning home for a midweek three-game series against Rollins April 12-13.

The last road games of the year are slated for April 22-23 at Eckerd, with the Eagles scheduled to conclude the 2016 season at home against Nova Southeastern April 29-30.

Embry-Riddle Record: 25-21 (.543)Career Record: 25-21 (.543)

Port Orange native and Spruce Creek High School Hall of Famer Kelsi Dunne was named the head coach of the Embry-Riddle softball program in June 2014.

In her first season at the helm, Dunne guided the Eagles to a program-record 25 wins, finishing the 2015 campaign 25-21. The Eagles’ 8-8 Sun Conference record was good for fourth in the league’s regular season standings and the Blue and Gold closed out the year with a 2-2 showing at the conference tournament.

Dunne also guided some of her players to individual accolades in 2015, including first team All-Conference selections Anna Battison, Kailah Rain and Raquelli Bianco, with Battison and Rain also receiving All-Region recognition from the NFCA. Dunne came to ERAU after serving as an Assistant Coach at Oklahoma State in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. At OSU, Dunne worked primarily with the pitchers and catchers, developing workouts, overseeing practice sessions, developing and implementing pitching game plans with pitch calling during games. She also performed similar duties as a volunteer assistant coach at Mississippi State throughout the 2012 season. Dunne was a standout collegiate player at the University of Alabama where she led the Crimson Tide to three Women’s College World Series appearances - including a semifinal finish in 2011 - SEC regular season titles in 2010 and 2011, and the SEC tournament crown in 2010. Named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011, she was a four-time NCAA Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American as well as a four-time Easton first team All-American. A four-time All-SEC pitcher, Dunne was the 2008 SEC Freshman of the Year and was the MVP of the 2010 SEC tournament. She was a USA Softball top-10 finalist for Player of the Year in 2009 and 2011, and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 National Pro Fastpitch League by the NPF Diamonds. Dunne closed out her career with the Crimson Tide as the all-time leader in strikeouts (1,219), strikeouts per seven innings (9.82), complete game no-hitters (9) and shutouts (40). She also finished with 113 career wins, which ranks sixth on the SEC’s all-time list. Dunne also racked up numerous accolades at Spruce Creek High School. She set a Florida High School Athletic Association single-game strikeout record with 38 Ks in 17 innings of work in a playoff game in 2006 and became only the second player in the state to post two 400-strikeout campaigns. Dunne was the 2007 EA Sports National Softball Player of the Year and a two-time EA Sports High School All-Amer-ica first team selection. Dunne earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Administration from Alabama in 2010 and completed her master’s degree in Sport Management, also at Alabama, in 2012.

Monique

WHITEAssistant Coach | 2nd Season | Florida International, 2008

Kelsi Dunne selected Monique White to join the ERAU softball coaching staff as an assistant coach in August 2014.

White joined the ERAU staff after serving as the Head Softball Coach for the Swedish Softball Federation in Stockholm, Sweden since 2013.

White played collegiate softball at Daytona State College from 2004-06 before finishing her career at Florida International University from 2006-08. She received her Associate of Arts in Communications from DSC and a Bachelor of Science in Journalism with a Minor in Marketing from FIU.

While at DSC, White was a two-time All-Conference selection while also earning Player of the Year and Best Defensive Player accolades. At FIU, White was a two-time All-Sun Belt selection and was named the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year in 2007. She still stands atop the FIU all-time leaderboard for home runs in a single season with 17 in 2008; for her career, she hit .351 with 31 home runs in two seasons, both of which rank second in school history.

After graduating from FIU, White played internationally for one season with the Gryphons in Rosmalen, Netherlands.

After her playing career, White served as an instructor with Game On Softball in Jacksonville and took over the softball program at Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville in 2010. In 2011, White was named an assistant coach at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. White returned to Jacksonville in 2012 to work as the assistant coach at Fletcher High School for two seasons.

In 2013, White was named an assistant coach with Sweden’s National Softball Team. That year, Sweden placed seventh out of 19 teams at the European Softball Championships.

Talia Barraco joins the Embry-Riddle coaching staff for the 2016 season after playing at ERAU in each of the last two years. She was select-ed to The Sun Conference All-Tournament Team in 2015, capping an illustrious two-year career as an Eagle.

Barraco played in all 87 games in 2014 and 2015, playing primarily as a corner infielder. In 2014, Barraco batted .343 and had a .971 fielding

percentage, providing a steadying presence at the plate and in the field. She also led the team with 16 sacrifice bunts and drove in a team-high 24 runs. In 2015, Barraco hit .273 and led the team with 12 doubles. She also drove in 25 runs and scored 24 times. Barraco was one of the top players at The Sun Conference Tournament, registering eight hits in 15 at-bats in ERAU’s four tournament games, scoring three runs and driving in three.

Barraco will graduate in May with a Bachelor’s of Science in Computational Mathematics and Civil Engineering.

On March 3, ERAU proved it can win games in a variety of ways, run-ruling visiting Lynn by a score of 9-1 in game one and then coming back from a late 3-2 deficit to claim game two, 4-3.

The Eagles got the day off to a great start, plating four runs in the first inning, keyed by a bases-clearing triple off the bat of Taylor Cowan. A Robi Zimmerman RBI groundout made it 4-0 Embry-Riddle.

After the Fighting Knights got on the board with a single tally in the third, Raquelli Bianco picked up an RBI single in the fifth to make it 5-1. Four batters later Haleigh Lewis delivered a two-run base hit to extend the Blue and Gold’s lead to 7-1.

Talia Barraco gave the Eagles a walk-off victory with a game-ending two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the sixth that pushed the margin to 9-1, ending the game early via the eight-run rule.

Game two started off similarly to the first game, as ERAU jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a first-inning, two-run single from Zimmerman.

Lynn bounced back with a run in the fourth and then scored twice in the fifth to take its first lead of the day, 3-2.

The Eagles trailed by that same score until the bottom of the sixth, when the Blue and Gold mounted a late-inning rally. Cowan led off with a single, then after the next two Eagles were retired, Victoria Reed drew a two-out walk to extend the inning. Kelsey McDonnell then came through with a big two-out single up the middle that scored Cowan with the game-tying run. The next pitch was in the dirt and Reed ventured off second base far enough to draw a throw from the catcher. Reed was able to get the better of the Fighting Knights in the rundown, earning a steal of third, and while she slid into third base the throw bounced into the dugout which allowed her to score what would end up being the game-winning run.

Two days after sweeping Lynn with an exciting finish, the Blue and Gold upped the ante and won both games against AIB Col-lege of Business in dramatic, and somewhat odd, fashion.

Bianco got the Eagles off on the right foot, singling home Anna Battison and Kailah Rain to put the home team in front 2-0 after one inning.

AIB got one run back in the top of the third, but Embry-Riddle scored twice in the bottom half thanks to a throwing error and a Cowan RBI single, putting ERAU ahead, 4-1.

The AIB Eagles rallied back with a three-run fourth and the score remained tied at four until the sixth. Rain delivered a two-run single and Barraco followed that with an RBI groundout that gave the Blue and Gold a 7-4 lead heading to the final inning.

In the top of the seventh, AIB’s Kara Hilton hit a two-out, two-run double to trim the deficit to 7-6. Zimmerman returned to the circle, after starting the game and being relieved by Cowan. She only needed to throw four pitches in the seventh to get a called strike three and secure the 7-6 victory.

In the second game, neither side was able to push across any runs through the first three innings. AIB was the first to dent the scoreboard, plating one in the fourth and three more in the fifth to open up a 4-0 advantage.

The Eagle bats didn’t come to life until the fifth inning, but they came alive in a major way. Chanley Burge led off with a walk and Battison singled with one out to put two runners on. With two outs, Bianco drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases and Barraco was then hit by a pitch to force home a run. On the very next pitch, Zimmerman unloaded a grand slam over the left-center field fence to put Embry-Riddle in front, 5-4.

The Blue and Gold held the lead until the seventh, when AIB proved its resiliency. Down to their final out, the AIB Eagles came up with a pair of runs to take a 6-5 lead.

The Eagles then had their final chance to answer AIB’s sev-enth-inning comeback, and they did so in the most unlikeliest of ways. Battison led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch and quickly came around to score on a one-out triple from Bianco, knotting the game at 6-6. Barraco then hit a hard grounder to third, but Bianco was unable to score on the groundout. After Zimmerman drew a four-pitch walk, Cowan stepped to the plate. Behind in the count 1-2, Cowan fouled off back-to-back pitches. On the next pitch, she swung and missed at a riseball for strike three, but the pitch was high enough that it got past the catcher and rolled to the backstop, which allowed Cowan to reach first base and Bianco to race home with the game-winning run on a walk-off dropped third strike.

On April 22, Embry-Riddle officially clinched a berth in The Sun Conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep at Webber International by scores of 7-2 and 4-0. The wins also increased the team’s total for the season to 23, which tied the program record for most single-season wins.

In game one, Bianco launched a solo home run in the top of

the third which served as an equal response to Erika Bellinger’s solo homer in the bottom of the second, tying the game up at 1-1.

The fifth inning proved to be the decisive frame as the Blue and Gold took advantage of a pair of errors to plate six unearned runs, all coming with two outs. Lewis got the scoring started with an RBI infield single, putting ERAU ahead, 2-1. Reed then grounded to the third baseman who kicked it, allowing Reed to reach base safely and Bianco to cross home plate. Barraco then delivered the big blow, a bases-clearing double that made it 6-1. Zimmerman then singled home Barraco to make it a 7-1 game.

WIU got a run back on a Jasmine Rodriguez solo home run but that was all the scoring the Warriors could muster for the day as ERAU took game one, 7-2.

Game two saw Embry-Riddle score twice in each of the third and fourth innings, which would prove to be more than enough support for Zimmerman. Bianco singled home McDonnell and Rain in the third to make it 2-0. In the fourth, Burge drove in Barraco with a sac fly and Bianco knocked in Zimmerman with a base hit to double the lead to 4-0.

Zimmerman only faced two over the minimum as she hurled a complete game, one-hit shutout. She also went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored at the plate, leading the Eagles to the 4-0 victory.

After finishing the regular season with an 8-8 record in con-ference play, Embry-Riddle went into the conference tournament seeded fourth. ERAU faced fifth-seeded Warner in its first game of the tournament.

The Eagles started strong, scoring three times in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. Rain drew a bases-loaded walk to open the scoring and later in the inning Barraco singled home a pair of runs.

Cowan knocked in McDonnell with an RBI single in the fourth to increase ERAU’s lead to 4-0. The Royals scored twice in the sixth to cut the lead in half, but they couldn’t get any closer than that. The Eagles scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and went on to claim a 5-2 victory.

Later that day, Embry-Riddle faced off against the top seed in the tournament, Southeastern. Once again, the Blue and Gold started strong with Barraco and Lewis each picking up first-inning RBIs to put ERAU up 2-0 early.

The Fire answered back with a run in the bottom of the first but a lineout double play prevented any further damage. South-eastern scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take over the lead, 3-2.

SEU got two more runs in the fourth and extended its lead to 5-2, which would remain the scoreline until the top of the sev-enth.

The Eagles made it interesting in the final frame as Rae Heuer tripled home Zimmerman to make it a 5-3 game with two outs. McDonnell then slapped a 1-0 pitch off the third baseman’s glove, but the ball caromed straight to the shortstop who threw to the plate to gun down Heuer for the final out.

Day two of the tournament would prove to be one of the most heartbreaking days in program history. The Blue and Gold opened the day facing 20th-ranked Thomas, a team that had shut out Embry-Riddle in both regular season games between the two sides, in an elimination game.

Despite not scoring once against the Night Hawks in the reg-ular season, the Eagles looked full of confidence from the first pitch of the game. ERAU would bat around in the first inning, scoring four times. Barraco delivered an RBI single and Reed fol-lowed with a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0. Zimmerman then knocked in a pair of runs with a base hit and before half an inning had gone by it was already 4-0 Embry-Riddle.

The Blue and Gold tacked on two more runs on bases-loaded walks in the fifth, extending its lead to 6-0.

Thomas scored its first run of the contest in the fifth but Rain got the run back two innings later with a seventh-inning RBI sin-gle. Bianco kept the Night Hawks off the scoreboard in the bot-tom of the seventh to give ERAU a convincing 7-1 win, keeping the Eagles alive in the tournament.

That night, Embry-Riddle took on 17th-ranked South Carolina Beaufort in another elimination game. The Blue and Gold contin-

2015 SEASON REVIEWued its string of hot starts, scoring the first inning for the third straight game when Cowan doubled home Rain to make it 1-0 Eagles.

A Mariaha Sanborn solo homer in the second tied the game at one, which would be the only scoring until the fifth.

Cowan delivered a two-out RBI single in the fifth and the ball was misplayed by the center fielder, allowing Bianco to score as well. Barraco followed that with a base hit to drive in Cowan, making it a 4-1 game in favor of the Eagles.

Embry-Riddle tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh and carried a 5-1 lead to the bottom of the inning. The Sand Sharks the mounted a furious comeback, stringing togeth-er five straight hits and taking advantage of a costly Eagle error to score four runs, tying the game at 5-5.

In extra innings, the Blue and Gold went down 1-2-3 in the eighth and USCB was able to push across the game-winning run in the bottom half, winning the game 6-5 and ending the Eagles’ season.

Following the 2015 season, three Eagles were selected as All-Sun Conference honorees, all earning places on the first team: catcher Anna Battison, outfielder Kailah Rain and pitcher Raquelli Bianco.

Battison led the team with a .363 batting average and .458 on-base percentage. She was also 22-for-22 in stolen bases, which set a single-season program record despite the fact that she missed the final 14 games of the season with an injury. Bat-tison also gunned down 10-of-38 would-be base-stealers, the highest percentage in program history (26.3 percent).

Rain started all 46 games and led the team with 44 hits and seven sacrifice bunts while batting .328 with 20 runs scored and 16 RBIs. She was also 10-for-11 in stolen bases and proved to be a weapon in center field, gunning down eight baserunners which vaulted her to the top of the program’s all-time list after just one season as an Eagle.

Bianco was the team’s ace in the circle in her first season at Embry-Riddle, posting a 16-9 record with a 3.03 ERA in 26 games, 25 of which were starts. She tossed 23 complete games, a single-season school-record seven shutouts and struck out 103 batters in 154.2 innings of work. At the plate, Bianco hit

.291 with 39 hits and tied the single-season program record with five home runs. She also led the team with 29 runs scored and tied for the team lead with 27 RBIs.

In addition to being recognized as All-Conference selections, Battison and Rain were each named to the NFCA All-East Region Second Team, becoming just the second and third players in program history to earn the distinction, following Sarah Huey’s second team selection in 2014.

Following their showing at The Sun Conference Tournament, Bianco and Talia Barraco were each named to the 10-person All-Tournament Team.

Bianco was a workhorse throughout the tournament, throw-ing every pitch for the Blue and Gold in each of the 27 innings over the course of just over 36 hours. She finished the tourna-ment with a 2-2 record and a 2.85 ERA, racking up 14 strike-outs. Bianco also went 7-for-15 (.467) at the plate with three doubles and four runs scored.

Barraco was one of the best hitters at the tournament, finish-ing 8-for-15 (.533) with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs. She also played a solid shortstop, committing just one er-ror in 15 chances.

The Eagles also had a trio of players earn All-Academic Sun Conference honors: Barraco, Rae Heuer and Robi Zimmerman. All three student-athletes carried cumulative GPAs of 3.30 or higher in order to qualify for the honor.

DAYTONA BEACH

DAYTONA BEACH - HOME OF THE EAGLES

Daytona Beach is an ever-changing city of more than 61,000 residents. Located on the “Fun Coast” of Florida, the principal city of Volusia County, it has become one of the premier des-tination spots in the Southeast Region. Despite its continuous growth, it has maintained the spirit and serenity of a small, close-knit beach community.

The city is a year-round family-friendly resort area, which hosts large groups of out-of-towners that descend upon the city for various events, most notably Speedweeks in early February, Bike Week in early March, Biketoberfest in October and Spring Break throughout March.

Home to four colleges and universities, Daytona Beach boasts an excellent quality of life and is a city that thrives and cele-brates the diversity of its community.

Located less than an hour from Orlando and an hour and a half from Jacksonville, Daytona Beach residents have ample opportunity to experience both cities’ entertainment options, including Walt Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, the Orlando Magic, Orlando City FC and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Daytona Beach continually exhibits its love for sports by host-ing numerous local and national athletic events at the Ocean Center and Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Daytona Beach boasts three major sports franchises in NASCAR, the LPGA and the USTA. The Daytona Inter-national Speedway is one of the most recognizable race-tracks in the world and features the Daytona 500, Coke Zero 400 and numerous other auto racing events. The LPGA and USTA Florida both claim Daytona Beach as their organizational headquarters.

The beaches of Daytona rank sixth for beach destinations in the United States. Every year, millions of vacationers flock to the Atlantic Ocean and Daytona Beach to expe-rience the sandy beaches in Volusia County. The hard packed sand allows motorized vehicles to drive right onto the beach.

Daytona Beach is located a short, 55-mile drive away from the Vacation Capital of the World: Orlando, Florida. Orlando is home to Walt Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios, as well as the NBA’s Orlando Magic. Daytona Beach is also just 91 miles from Jacksonville, the 11th-largest city in the United States.

The average yearly temperature in Daytona Beach is 70.4º F (21.3º C), making for a warm and pleasant cli-mate in which to live. Winters are mild and summers are warm thanks to its location on the Atlantic Ocean and the Halifax River, an estuary which flows between the beachside and the mainland.

Daytona Beach boasts more than 200 restaurants, in-cluding barbecue, Mexican, Oriental, Greek, Indian, Ital-ian, Thai, seafood, Cuban, health and natural foods.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is the world’s oldest, largest and most presti-gious university specializing in aviation and aerospace. The curriculum covers the opera-tion, engineering and research of modern aircraft, alternative vehicles and clean energy systems and the management of aviation and aerospace organizations.

Approximately 34,000 students pursue degrees from among 40 degree programs at residential campuses in Daytona Beach, Fla., and Prescott, Ariz., and at more than 150 education centers for working professionals in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Middle East. Embry-Riddle also offers online coursework.

Embry-Riddle’s worldwide reputation for academic excellence draws students from all 50 states and nearly 90 nations.

The 185-acre Daytona Beach campus, located next to Daytona Beach International Airport, has 4,600 undergraduate and 610 graduate students. Excellent flying weather and the resort communities surrounding the Daytona Beach campus offer students an outstanding environment in which to study, fly and enjoy numerous recreational and cultural activities. The campus is within an hour’s drive of the Kennedy Space Center and the Space Coast and within easy reach of Orlando and Jacksonville, which offer a menu of arts, culture, theme parks, shopping and professional sports.

HistoryOn Dec. 17, 1925, 22 years after the historic flight of the Wright Flyer, barnstormer

John Paul Riddle and entrepreneur T. Higbee Embry founded the Embry-Riddle Company at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. The following spring the company opened the Embry-Riddle School of Aviation.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University began with a simple plan to train airplane pilots in a thorough, efficient manner and to cash in on a booming post-World War I interest in flying. Today, Embry-Riddle leads the world in aviation and aerospace higher education.

After a period of decline in the 1930s, Embry-Riddle sprang to life again in Miami, Fla., as World War II erupted in Europe and the demand for aviators and mechanics surged. Allied nations sent more than 25,000 young men to Embry-Riddle’s Florida centers to become pilots and aviation technicians. During the Korean War the U.S. Air Force con-tracted with Embry-Riddle to train airmen in the fundamentals of airplane maintenance.

In the following decades, Embry-Riddle expanded its international outreach and strengthened its academic programs. In 1965, Embry-Riddle consolidated its flight train-ing, ground school and technical training programs into one location. With dollars and trucks borrowed from civic leaders, the move to Daytona Beach signaled the rebirth of Embry-Riddle as an accredited university and the start of its odyssey to world-class status.

AcademicsEmbry-Riddle is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association

of Colleges and Schools to award degrees at the associate, bachelor and master levels, as well as doctoral degrees in five areas of study.

At many public universities, freshmen and sophomores are taught by graduate assis-tants, but not so at Embry-Riddle. Classes, which average 25 students, are taught by facul-ty who are accessible to students in class, during office hours and through university-wide voice mail and e-mail.

shows, concerts, plays and weekly movies, as well as on-campus clubs and organiza-tions. Students can choose to get involved in more than 150 professional organizations, sports clubs, fraternities, sororities and special-interest clubs.

The university also gives students opportunities to work part time while pursuing a

degree. The Student Employment Office helps place students in jobs on or off campus. Job opportunities are available regardless of financial need and allow students to gain self-confidence, important time-management skills and valuable employment references.

After GraduationInternships and co-operative education opportunities, available through the universi-

ty’s Career Services Office, enable students to gain valuable experience in their chosen field. In many cases, students have been offered full-time jobs as a result of an intern-ship or co-op experience. The Career Services Office also has a placement program for graduates of the university. Counselors are available to help refine resumes, hone interviewing skills and help explore job opportunities within a vast network of companies.

The Industry/Career Expo held each November has become the aviation industry’s hiring event of the year. The expo attracts hundreds of recruiters from top companies looking to hire the university’s graduates. Professionals with an Embry-Riddle degree en-joy a variety of career options. Graduates have gone on to train as astronauts, fly planes, manage airports, design mechanical systems and serve as bank administrators. Included in the ranks of the Embry-Riddle alumni are six astronauts, a former U.S. congressman and a former White House Fellow.

During her tenure as the Director of Housing, she provided administrative leadership in the planning and construction of the Student Village in 1997, which increased the number of on-campus residents from 900 to 1,900.

In 2002, Taylor was named the Associate Dean of Students, providing oversight to Hous-ing and Residence Life, Health Services, and Counseling and Orientation, while serving

as the functional Director of Housing. Three years later, Taylor was named the Dean of Students, a position she held until she was named the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs in January of 2013.

As a leader on Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus, Taylor has served as the Chair for a number of committees, including Diversity and Inclusion, University Tobacco-Free Communication & Transition, the Embry-Riddle Annual Fund and Judicial Process Review, which resulted in the creation of the University’s Honor Code and Honor Board. Taylor has also served as Off-Site Committee Member for the Commission on Colleges’ Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and has been a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and the Association of Student Conduct Administrators. Her successes at Embry-Riddle have led to her being asked to be the presenter at several conferences, including the Association of College and University Housing Officers Confer-ence and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Taylor has been an avid supporter of sports in general and the Eagles’ Athletics program in particular. She has attended numerous games as a season ticket holder and her interac-tion with the Eagle coaches and student-athletes has resulted in her being asked to be an honorary coach at home contests, in addition to being a guest speaker at the 2012 ERAU Student-Athlete Convocation.

SPORTS MEDICINEThe Embry-Riddle Sports Medicine Department provides ERAU student-ath-

letes with the best medical care possible following an injury, to return the athlete back to school and competition as soon as possible in the safest manner. The areas of emphasis for the Sports Medicine Department are injury prevention, injury evaluation, treatment, and injury/health education. We dedicate ourselves to providing a safe environment for our athletes to compete in.

Treatments, injury care, taping, practice, and game preparations are per-formed in the 1,000 square-foot athletic training room. Adjacent to this room is the 400 square-foot athletic training rehabilitation room. These rooms have a variety of equipment to provide the best care and rehabilitation possible for ERAU student-athletes.

strength & conditioningThe Jamie Fletcher Weight Room is located inside ERAU’s ICI Center. This

2,800 square-foot facility is home to some of the top equipment available. ERAU student-athletes participate in team strength programs year round,

which allow them to stay strong and healthy throughout the year and peak at the correct times. ERAU Athletes also participate in speed and agility sessions. These sessions help develop better explosiveness, balance, and speed.

Embry-Riddle University strength and conditioning is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of our student-athletes. These areas help develop a strong, healthy, and mentally tough student-athlete that will succeed in their en-deavors.
