Gemalto is securing the next generation of trusted paymentsAs the largest provider of digital payment solutions worldwide, Gemalto is leading our

customers through the EMV migration in the United States. New figures predicting both the

penetration of EMV terminals and the issuance of EMV credit and debit cards are continuing

to project faster, bigger, sooner implementation of chip technology. The market shift is

already happening, so it begs the question – What’s next?

Welcome from SCA

Welcome to the Smart Card Alliance 9th Annual 2016 Payments Summit. We are delighted that you have chosen to attend our event, and I am confident that your expectations will be met over the next few days of sessions, panels and information sharing.

We have changed locations this year, moving from Salt Lake City and the Rocky Mountains to warm and inviting Orlando! We have also joined forces with an industry colleague, ICMA, and are co-locating our event with the 2016 ICMA EXPO event, making this year’s Payments Summit the largest event to date.

The Payments Summit is a unique event that provides a depth and breadth of coverage for all things payments and showcases the many facets of today’s new and exciting payments industry. Since the last Payments Summit, the EMV deadline has passed, mobile payments have made tremendous strides into the mainstream, transit payments continue to evolve lead the way in terms of open payments, and Financial Technologies, also known as FinTech, are changing the ways in which we think about payments, offering new and unique opportunities to the payments industry. The Summit also features educational workshops, payments industry training, and in-person meeting opportunities for our Smart Card Alliance industry councils, which offer ample opportunities to exchange knowledge and build or strengthen your business relationships.

The Exhibit Hall now holds 100 booth spaces, more than doubling last year’s size! With the co-location of the 2016 ICMA EXPO, attendees will gain exposure to a wider set of products and services that previously were not available. And of course, the Exhibit Hall remains as the primary location for most meals, refreshment breaks, and networking receptions.

One of the things that I hear often from Smart Card Alliance members is the opportunities we provide to help individuals build solid, long-term relationships. Business networking is vital in any profession, and meeting and getting to know people who you can assist, and who can potentially help you in return, is a built-in benefit from attending a Smart Card Alliance event.

As you plan your attendance this year, highlight the speakers and topics you want to listen to and try to commit to listening in on at least one session that does not directly relate to your market. You will expand your understanding of how all payments are interconnected in some way and may find that there is more to be gained by exploring new ideas and different perspectives. We know for certain that this event will leave you with new information, a new appreciation for all things payments, and a better understanding of the values and mission of the Smart Card Alliance organization for 2016.

Thank you for attending the 2016 Payments Summit and enjoy the conference!

Randy VanderhoofExecutive Director, Smart Card AllianceConference Chair, 2016 Payments Summit

Welcome from ICMA

Welcome to ICMA’s 2016 EXPO! The EXPO is the only place to network with the industry’s top leaders and experience the lat-est in card manufacturing innovations. For 25 years, ICMA has been providing education, training, certification, resources and more to the card industry. This year ICMA is co-locating with the Smart Card Alliance (SCA) Payments Summit, giving attendees

from each organization a broader perspective and expanded opportunities. The content and exhibits of the event will feature a variety of vertical markets and span the industry. We are excited that we can present this opportunity to you.

We are pleased to kick off the event with a fresh perspective from a global thought leader. Mike Walsh, the CEO of Tomorrow, a consumer innovation research lab based in Hong Kong, will speak on designing business for the 21st century. Rather than focusing on the distant future, Mike scans the near horizon for emerging technologies and disruptive shifts in human behavior, and then translating these into pragmatic plans for digital transformation. Mike advises some of the world’s leading brands and corporations on how to thrive in this era of disruptive technological change. He previously founded Jupiter Research in Australia, and has also held senior strategy roles at News Corporation in the Asia Pacific Region.

ICMA continues its tradition of exceptional networking and education at this year’s EXPO. Build your own experience from sessions presented by ICMA and SCA throughout the conference. Choose between a variety of concurrent track sessions that offer a well-rounded scope of the industry at large. ICMA’s ses-sions feature tracks on Card Manufacturing and Personalization & Fulfillment.

Be sure to spend time with our exhibitors, who come to us from around the world offering the latest in innovation. This year’s exhibition is bigger than ever with 100 exhibitors. Join us on Monday, April 4th for our Welcome Reception in the exhibit hall. Experience the broad array of materials, inks, equipment suppliers and more on hand that offer products specifically geared toward card manufacturing and personalization as well as smart cards and new technologies.

Make sure to join us on Wednesday night for Carnival. Network with fellow at-tendees and celebrate the winners of the Élan Awards of Excellence at ICMA’s annual awards presentation and dinner. Join us for some fun games, music, fantastic gourmet style fair food and cocktails. To attend, purchase your tickets at the ICMA registration desk in advance.

The ICMA staff and Board of Directors will be on hand during the EXPO for any feedback you may have. Thank you for coming and we look forward to another great EXPO.

EXPANDED FOCUS, EXPANDED AUDIENCE6

Hello and welcome to the 9th Annual Payments Summit! Many exciting things have happened since we last gathered during the previous Summit in Salt Lake City. Remember the EMV liability shift 6 months back, where the US banking and retail industries succeeded in defining and implementing chip payments technology in an environment that is extremely complex from a technical and regulatory point of view. We facilitated the long-anticipated rollout of mobile NFC wallets, we built the tokenization infrastructures that bring next-gen payment instruments within reach, and we toyed with virtual currencies and public ledgers. Together as an industry we can achieve great things! At UL, our mission is to make the world a safer place. Realize though that in today’s world, there is no safety without security. A modern car without proper security controls in place can potentially be turned into an unguided projectile. A power grid that is insufficiently shielded against cyber attacks may leave thousands of households in the dark – literally! Payment infrastructures that are susceptible to fraud can be used for funding of terrorist activities. Real examples of situations that are not particularly safe due to the lack of security. For UL, payment security and the compliance of payment infrastructures are concrete opportunities to fulfill our mission. We are therefore proud to be a member of Smart Card Alliance, and proud to be sponsor of this year’s Payments Summit. Regards, Maarten BronDirector Innovations at UL
