Advantage: Centre rail helps keep the cross chains from shifting and twisting. There must be enough

of a gap between the tandem tires to accommodate the centre rail.

TIRE CHAIN ANATOMY1. Fastener(boomer) Joins and secures the ends of the chain together.

2. Quick Hook(C-hook) inside hook.

3. Cross Chain(cross links) Provides traction with the ground surface.

4. Cross Chain HookSecures cross chains to the side chain.

5. Side Chain(side rails) Acts as the frame for tire chainconstruction.

6. Centre Rail(triples only) Simply a piece of side chain in the middle of a 1/2 set of triple chains.

7. Cams/Cam Side Chain(not featured on the set of triples in this picture) Side chain with cams is available to make tightening chain easier with the use of a cam tool).

What to Look for in Premium Studded Truck ChainsThe microstructure of a link of studded cross chain can give us a great deal of information about its quality. This information can confirm if there are any heat treating issues or material flaws. Consistency is important and indicates a stronger, longer wearing alloy. A consistent “martensitic structure” will show finer structures with smaller/shorter needles and less white areas. (see pictures A & B below)

When trying to gauge the strength of a studded chain you may also look at the hardness values. The chart below is a comparative hardness test provided by an independant lab... any values over 5.1 are classified as the case depth or carburization thickness. Find the distance from the surface hardness to the last figure above 5.1 to determine the case depth.

NORDIC SQUARE LINK WEAR BAR CHAINS

Our new Nordic square link wear bar (diamond pattern) chains have been developed to become the premier loader, grader, rock truck chain on the market. These chains were originally developed with Alberta's matting industry in mind and have quickly become popular for all users in harsh environments. These chains come with wear bar traction links rather than studs that both outlast traditional studs as well as reduce punctures on matting or haul decks. They also come with a floating wear bar link that both increases the amount of traction the chain provides, as well as reduces the stress of the chain components to extend the chains overall working life. In addition, these chains come with a draw chain that runs along the outside of a traditional side chain and makes tightening these chains in the field or at the shop easier than ever before.

Our TDU was designed with forwarder, harvester and skidder floatation tires in mind. The TDU chain uses top mounted U studs in a tight triple diamond design to ensure continual traction and tire coverage. The design incorporates a tensioning chain to ensure a secure fit regardless of tire make or levels of wear. Side chain design also offers additional protection for tire side

walls. The TDU is available in 16mm material size in a triple diamond configuration. Tension chain only available with metric sized tires.
