Let the peachy-‘keen’ fun and games begin

Nancy Moyer, president of Newcomers Club of the Upper Main Line and Mercedes Marshall Karel get the year’s activities rolling with a meet and greet for new members.

Inglis House board president Lauren DeBruicker and the organization’s president and CEO, Gavin Kerr, (center rear) thank Wells Fargo regional manager Jim Baum along with Therman Doley and daughter Raina, for volunteering at the annual Keen Games. Come join the games on Sept. 10.

Looking for a change of pace, other outlets for energy or to learn more about what the area has to offer? The Newcomers Club of the Upper Main Line has the answers with plenty of activities, out-ings and educational experiences. Get in touch at ncuml.org.

Fred’s Footsteps: Golf Outing

Brian Murphy, Brad Daggett and Mike DiMartile take a different view of the course that challenged them.

Bill Mills stops to speak with Eagles former coach Dick Vermeil and one of his famous players, John Spagnola of Bryn Mawr.

Newcomers of Upper Main Line

Friends of Fred DiBona are happy to walk the walk of his footsteps in philanthropy at an annual golf outing in his honor. Held at Philadelphia Country Club. Proceeds help families with medical bills manage the cost of getting well by raising funding for non-medical needs. The outing will take place `on the 19th at Phila-delphia Country Club.

EMPOWERINGCHANGEMAKERSEye Opening Experience

It’s time to open the eyes of the sighted to see what an institution like OSB has done for those without it. Envision the challenge of a gourmet dinner in darkness on the 13th at the 184-year-old school.

John and Emmy Vander Zwaag along with seat-mate, John Black, test out the masks they’ll wear for the “unsighted” dinner.

How Does John’s Garden Grow?

For Mr. Bartram it grew prolifically, with more than just “silver bells, cockle shells and pretty maidens all in a row.” Learn about the “fruits” of the botanist’s labors during a cocktail hour and gourmet dinner. Adventuresome? Arrive by boat via the Schuylkill River on Oct. 6.

Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s former president Jane Pepper (right) weighs in on the many programs at Bartram’s bountiful gardens for Cheryl Cheston, her spouse, Cliffe, and Nan Lansinger.

Arts & Business Council Awards

Hometown hero of music, acting and late night TV, Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, gets plenty of attention from fans after receiving the Anne D’Harnoncourt Award for Artistic Excellence.

A&BC is a non-profit that’s found a recipe for mixing business acumen and finan-cial resources with creative energy and ideas so that all involved benefit. Now in its fourth decade, the agency brings together artists and bud-ding entrepreneurs with those who’ve already succeeded. It’s a ‘match’ that sparks success for all parties involved. Witness the honors given on May 23.

RADNOR RACES PROVIDE OPEN SPACES

Race on over to the Wayne Hotel on May 8 to stake out a spot before the starting gate opens for the 142nd Run for the Roses. Sit on the porch, commune in the lobby, or meet and greet in Paramour to support local non-profits. Everyone’s a winner.

African Education ProjectJulie-Anne Savarit-Cosenza of Malvern (center) thanks her posse of friends and supporters of AEP, includ-ing Katya Alexander, Victor Velle, Alex Monto and Karen DelRaso. What began as a mission trip several years ago took on new meaning to build a school and facilities to aid education in Zambia. The African Education Proj-ect is aiding families through its students.

Rather taking a team of four out for exercise before entering the ring or checking out the hurdles to overcome during a trip inside the Dixon Oval, riders, handlers and patrons know the Devon Horse Show & Country Fair is the place to be seen during the end of Spring

Alliance Francaise’s ode to Bastille Day

Alliance Francaise’s executive director, Martine Chauvet greets Yves Quintin and the organization’s board president Nancy Gabel-Broder.

Daniele and Jerry Grossman find “le parapluie” to keep the sun away.

Mann Center – Party in the Park

Catharine and Robert Williams take advantage of a trolley ride to the top of the hill.

Summer isn’t complete without a trip to the Mann Center for an outdoor concert. Make it more memorable by taking in a performance when its annual fundraising “Party in the Park” takes place. Watch the sun go down and moon rise from the top of the hill after supping and socializing before heading to seats under the band shell.

Alice and Charlie Dagit (rear) stop by to say hello to Alan and Louise Reed.

August

Freedoms TennisMembers of the Philadelphia Freedoms and their coach, Josh Cohen, get ready to take their places on the court for a match with the New York Empire team. Held at Vil-lanova University the team draws a hefty crowd of tennis fans during their 12 game schedule and has attracted the likes of well-known players including Caroline Wozniacki to its fold. It’s a family friendly atmosphere.

Neighborhood League Shop When August rolls around it’s time to clean closets of their clothes and house-hold items that can be another person’s trea-sures. Then head to the Neighborhood League’s Shops on Lancaster Ave. in Wayne. Suzanne Mechwart and Lee Ros-encrans begin the sorting and pricing process before customers descend on the three stores that open for business the first week in Sept. Donations and con-signment items are always welcome.

Broadway Dreams

The way to fulfilling one’s dream of a place on stage requires practice, patience and a team of pros to help singers, dancers and musicians achieve their goals. The Broadway Dreams Foundation turns hopes into reality during intensive training sessions. Performances take place in the middle of August. It’s a chance to see a rising star in the making.
