LAST TIME OUT• West Virginia used a 13-0 first-quarter run

and a 17-0 second-quarter run to collect a 94-53 victory over Morehead State on Wednesday.

• Lanay Montgomery joined Georgeann Wells (1984 vs. Marshall) as only the second WVU player to score 20+, rebound 18+ and block 5+ shots in a game. Montgomery finished with a career-high 23 points, matched a season-high 18 rebounds and blocked six shots in 25 minutes of action.

• Teana Muldrow also recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Montgomery and Muldrow are the first to reach double-doubles in back-to-back games since Liz Repella and Takisha Granberry in the 2008 campaign.

• West Virginia has now won 29 consecutive games against nonconference opponents at the WVU Coliseum since the 2013-14 season and 10 consecutive games at the Coliseum since Feb. 6, 2016.

A BLAZING START• West Virginia, 8-0, is off to its best start

since the 2010-11 season, when the Mountaineers finished the nonconference slate at 13-0 and started the year 16-0.

• Other best season-opening starts under Mike Carey include 9-0 in 2004-05 and 10-0 in 2002-03.

PHYSICAL FOR 40• West Virginia has limited its first eight

opponents this season to less than 40 percent shooting and four of those less than 30 percent: Charleston Southern (17.7%), Howard (32.0%), Coppin State (22.6%), NC A&T (32.2%), ECU (35.8%), Auburn (27.6%), High Point (35.6%) and Morehead State (29.4%).

• Through eight games, opponents are shooting just 28.9 percent (136-of-471).

• WVU has converted 160 opponent turnovers (20.0 TOPG) into 188 points (23.5 ppg) this season.

consecutive nonconference games inside the WVU Coliseum dating back to Nov. 24, 2013.

THE THREE MOUNTAINEERS• West Virginia’s three Ms (Tynice Martin, Lanay

Montgomery and Teana Muldrow) provide the bulk of the Mountaineers’ offense with an average of 45.5 points scored per game.

• Martin leads the Big 12 with 20.1 points per game. She has reached double-figures in 10 consecutive games dating back to March 18, 2016. Martin has made a field goal in 18 consecutive games.

• Muldrow is second on the squad with 14.1 points per contest and 9.8 rebounds per game. Muldrow’s rebound total is fourth in the league. Muldrow has made a field goal in 17 consecutive games.

MARTIN ON A ROLL • Sophomore Tynice Martin has been on fire

since Feb. 13, 2016. The sophomore has reached double-figures in 16 of the last 18 contests, including nine consecutive.

• During that stretch, Martin is averaging 17.3 points per game (294 points in 17 games).

• This season, she is averaging 20.1 points per game, which leads the Big 12.

• West Virginia is 5-0 when Martin scores 20 or more points in a game.

• She netted a career-high 28 points and matched a career-best nine field goals in the win over North Carolina A&T on Nov. 22. Martin added another 27 points against Howard on Nov. 15. Martin tallied 21 points in the win over High Point (Nov. 27).

• Martin averaged 20.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the Savanah Invitational to earn MVP honors - the first regular-season tournament accolade in her career.

• Martin made 30 consecutive free throws from March 18, 2016 to Nov. 24, 2016 - the second longest streak in program history.

MONTGOMERY MAKING HER MARK• Center Lanay Montgomery opened her

senior season with a bang, scoring 17 points and grabbing 18 rebounds in the win over Charleston Southern (Nov. 12).

• Montgomery’s 17/18 performance is the best for a Mountaineer since Donna Abbott inked 22 points and grabbed 19 rebounds against Rutgers Feb. 1991.

• She joined Georgeann Wells (1984) as the only Mountaineers to score 20+, rebound 18+ and block 5+ in a game.

• Montgomery tallied a career-high 23 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked six shots against Morehead State on Nov. 30.

• Montgomery is third all-time at WVU with 258 career blocked shots. She is 13 away from reaching second place currently held by Asya Bussie (270).

• Montgomery’s blocked shot total is fifth all-time in the Big 12.

• She has 710 total rebounds and is seven away from reaching WVU’s top 10.

• Additionally, Montgomery has corralled 248 career offensive rebounds, which is sixth. She is 17 away from reaching the top five.

• If trends continue, Montgomery can become the Mountaineers’ second-best shooter in program history behind Olayinka Sanni (55.7%). Her career field goal percentage of 55.5% currently ranks second at WVU.

WHEN WEST VIRGINIA... STATISTICAL RANKINGS

LENDING A HELPING HAND • The WVU women’s basketball team

assisted with the flood recovery efforts that devastated the state in June 2016.

• As a group, the team donated supplies and other items needed. On July 15, 2016, the Mountaineers visited Rainelle, West Virginia, to assist with the efforts. The team helped ‘gut’ a home by removing anything that had been touched by the flood waters including the kitchen, bathroom, walls and flooring.

• On November 1, 2016, the Mountaineers played an exhibition game against Concord at Robert C. Byrd High School in Clarksburg, West Virginia. All of the proceeds from the contest will be given to those affected by the flooding in Rainelle.

MAGNIFICENT MULDROW • Junior Teana Muldrow needs 275 points to

become the 33rd Mountaineer to reach the 1,000-point club.

• Muldrow ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 9.8 rebounds per game.

• Muldrow is 16th all-time at WVU with 91 made treys and needs just four more to pass Takisha Granberry for 15th.

• She is tied for 17th in career blocks (63). • The East Orange, New Jersey, native is the

active team leader with 34 games scored in double-figures.

• Muldrow added a second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds against Morehead State (Nov. 30).

• Muldrow earned her first career All-Tournament accolade at the Savannah Invitational, after averaging a double-double with 14.7 points and 11.0 rebounds in wins over North Carolina A&T, ECU and Auburn.

CAREY COACHES 500TH WVU GAME • On Nov. 27 against High Point, program

all-time wins leader Mike Carey (330-171) coached his 500th game at West Virginia.

• Carey is in his 16th season at the helm of the Mountaineer women’s basketball program.

• Carey collected his 325th win at West Virginia with a 69-39 victory over Coppin State.

• He produced 288 wins at Salem and has 330 victories at West Virginia.

• His .659 winning percentage in 16 seasons at WVU is a program-best.

• Mike Carey (616) recorded his 600th career win at the collegiate level with WVU’s 72-35 victory over Kansas on Jan. 16, 2016.

Montgomery Achieves Historic Feat in Opener Senior Lanay Montgomery’s recorded a historic performance of 17 points and 18 rebounds to pace the No. 22/25 ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team to a season-opening, 88-38, victory over Charleston Southern on Saturday. West Virginia (1-0) sprinted out to an 11-5 lead before Charleston Southern (0-1) cut the game to 11-9 midway through the first quarter. WVU utilized a 12-2 run and held CSU scoreless for a seven minute stretch that lasted late in the second quarter and the first three minutes of the third quarter. The Mountaineers are now 13-3 all-time in season openers under Mike Carey and 29-15 all-time. Montgomery was one of three WVU players to score 17 points in the contest and did something a Mountaineer had not accomplished in 25 years. The senior from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, connected a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and added 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in 21 minutes. Montgomery’s impressive 17 point and 18 rebound performance was the best for a WVU women’s basketball player since Donna Abbott posted 22 points and 19 rebounds against Rutgers on Feb. 28, 1991. The double-double marked the 10th in Montgomery’s career and she has now pulled down double-digit boards in back-to-back games. Overall, West Virginia connected on 50.8 percent (32-of-63) from the field and 39.1 percent from behind the arc (9-of-23). The Mountaineers held CSU to just 17.7 percent (11-of-62) shooting, as the Buccaneers became the 17th opponent in WVU program history to only make 11 or less field goals. West Virginia outmanned Charleston Southern, 60-31, on the boards and outscored CSU 38-2 in the paint. WVU capitalized with 21 second chance points and 24 points off 16 Buccaneers turnovers. Junior Teana Muldrow scored 17 points, collected seven rebounds, dished out three assists and snatched a pair of steals. Tynice Martin also eclipsed double figures with 17 points, making 7-of-13 from the field and 3-of-7 from the 3-point line. Chania Ray distributed a career-high 11 assists – the most for a Mountaineer point guard since Linda Stepney recorded 12 against Saint Francis in Dec. 2014. Ray also registered four rebounds and two steals. A couple of other Mountaineers reach career highs: Anja Martin tallied a personal-best eight points and Desiree Rhodes corralled a new career-high in 12 boards. Kristina King, the Big 12 Conference Preseason Newcomer of the Year, scored eight points in her WVU debut.

Martin’s Career-High 27 Paces WVU Past Howard Sophomore Tynice Martin netted a career-high 27 points to lead the No. 21/25-ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team to a 95-49 victory over Howard on Tuesday evening at the WVU Coliseum. Howard senior Te’Shya Heslip’s layup cut the WVU lead to 16-11 with 1:41 remaining in the first quarter. However, West Virginia answered with a 21-0 run that lasted six minutes into the second quarter. The Mountaineers (2-0) tallied 54 of their 95 points in the second half to cruise to their 26th consecutive victory against a nonconference opponent at the WVU Coliseum. Martin bested her previous career-high of 20 points and became the ninth WVU player to finish perfect from the free throw line with 10 or more points. The sophomore from Atlanta finished the evening 7-of-14 from the field, 3-of-9 from behind the arc and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. She grabbed four rebounds, collected three steals, dished out two assists and blocked two shots in 29 minutes. In addition to Martin, four other Mountaineers eclipsed double-figures. Junior Chania Ray netted a career-best 17 points, going 7-of-14 from the field, while dishing out five assists and snatching a career-high five steals. Alexis Brewer connected on a career-best three triples and finished 5-of-9 with 13 points. Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year Kristina King tallied 12 points and corralled six rebounds. Teana Muldrow finished with 11 points, eight rebounds four assists and three steals. Lanay Montgomery blocked a shot for a 26th straight game and registered her third consecutive double-figure rebounding game with a game-high 13 boards. The senior scored seven points, just three shy of a double-double. Overall, WVU shot 46.3 percent (31-of-67) from the field and 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from behind the arc. From the charity stripe, WVU knocked down 23-of-29 free throw attempts for 79.3 percent. Howard was limited to 32.0 percent shooting (16-of-15) from the field and 3-of-15 (20.0 percent) from behind the arc. The Mountaineers won the rebound battle, 48-28 and outscored Howard 32-18 in the paint. WVU forced 27 Howard turnovers and converted those into 34 points.

WVU Clips Eagles to Complete Homestand Three players reached double-figures in the West Virginia University women’s basketball team’s 69-39 victory over Coppin State on Saturday. No. 21/25-ranked West Virginia (3-0) opened the game on a 10-0 run, but shot just 33.3 percent (11-of-33) in the opening half. For a third consecutive game, the Mountaineers bounced back and shot over 60 percent (8-of-13) in the third quarter and took command of the contest for the team’s 27th consecutive win at the WVU Coliseum against nonconference opponents. With the loss, Coppin State fell to 0-4 on the year. Sophomore Tynice Martin led all scorers with 19 points. Martin connected on six field goals and connected on a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. The Atlanta native has now made 19 consecutive free throws dating back to the Princeton game on March 18, 2016, last season. Katrina Pardee finished with a season-high 17 points and registered a career-high six rebounds in 29 minutes. Teana Muldrow tallied 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds for fourth consecutive double-figure scoring game. The junior made 5-of-8 from the field, snatched three steals and blocked two shots. Lanay Montgomery had her best blocking performance since April 2015, leading the way with seven of WVU’s 14 blocks on the evening. Montgomery also tallied seven points and grabbed seven rebounds. Chania Ray led WVU with eight assists, while grabbing seven rebounds and collecting three steals. Overall, West Virginia shot 40.0 percent (24-of-60) from the field and 21.7 percent (5-of-23) from behind the three-point line. Coppin State became the fourth consecutive WVU opponent to shoot below 40 percent, connecting on just 22.6 percent (14-of-62) from the field and 9.1 percent (1-of-11) from behind the arc. West Virginia opened the first quarter on a 10-0 run. However, Coppin State answered with a 7-4 run to close Mountaineer lead to 14-7 at the end of one. Despite shooting just 25 percent (4-of-16) in the first quarter, the Mountaineers answered in the second quarter by connecting on of 7-of-17 for 41.2 percent. WVU used a 13-0 run over a four minute span to push its lead to 24 points with four minutes remaining in the opening half. Pardee paced WVU with 10 points followed by eight from Martin.Muldrow connected on nine of WVU’s first 11 points to open the third quarter. West Virginia outscored CSU, 22-14, and held a 55-27 advantage after three periods. The Mountaineers added 14 more points in the fourth quarter to secure their ninth win over Coppin State.

Martin Nets Career-Best 28 in Return Home Atlanta native Tynice Martin excelled in her return home to Georgia, scoring a career-high 28 points in the No. 19/23-ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team’s, 80-64, win over North Carolina A&T on day one of the Savannah Invitational. West Virginia (4-0) came out on fire with a 22-2 run in the first quarter. The Aggies (1-3) outscored WVU, 24-13, in the third quarter to trim the Mountaineer lead to 13. However, a 9-1 West Virginia run in the fourth quarter helped the Mountaineers squash the North Carolina A&T comeback attempt. Martin made 9-of-15 from the field and finished with a career-best 28 points, while dishing out three assists and collecting two steals. She connected on 9-of-9 from the charity stripe, pushing her consecutive free throw streak to 28 makes since March 18, 2016. Teana Muldrow added 15 points and corralled a season-high nine rebounds. Chania Ray added nine points and dished out six assists in the victory. Katrina Pardee and Kristina King each added eight points. Center Lanay Montgomery, largely limited due to foul trouble, finished with seven rebounds, four points and three blocks. West Virginia shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the field and 32.2 percent (19-of-59) from behind the three-point line. North Carolina A&T was the fifth straight Mountaineer opponent to shoot less than 40 percent, connecting on 19-of-59 for 32.2 percent. The Aggies made 6-of-13 from behind the arc for 46.2 percent. The Mountaineers sprinted out to a 22-2 and held a 28-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter. In a stretch halfway through the quarter, Martin made four consecutive free throws and hit two jumpers as Pardee netted a triple to push the Mountaineers lead to 20. The second half was much closer as the Aggies became the first WVU opponent to reach 20 points in a quarter this season. Montgomery and Muldrow were limited in the quarter with two fouls each. The Mountaineers led 52-28 at the break. WVU shot 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from the field compared to NC A&T’s 23.5 percent (8-of-34). It was a continuation of the second half for North Carolina A&T, as the Aggies jumped out on a 14-3 run to trim the game to 55-42 with 6:30 remaining. Dana Brown’s jumper with 49.5 seconds left in the quarter cut the Mountaineer advantage to 65-52. A 9-1 fourth quarter start extended the Mountaineer lead back to 21 points with 6:44 remaining. Montgomery and Ray made back-to-back layups followed by a Martin jumper. The exclamation point to the run was a Muldrow slicing layup that drew the and-one opportunity which she connected on to put WVU up 74-53.

Mountaineers Roll Past East Carolina Teana Muldrow’s double-double paced the No. 19/23-ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team to a 79-47 victory over East Carolina on Wednesday in the Savannah Invitational held at the Savannah Civic Center. Three extended runs propelled the Mountaineers (5-0) to their fifth victory of the season. WVU used a 10-2 spurt in the first quarter, a 16-2 second quarter run and a 12-1 fourth quarter run to thwart the Pirates. East Carolina fell to 4-2 after being held to a season-low 47 points. Muldrow, a junior from East Orange, New Jersey, recorded her second career double-double by scoring season-highs with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Wednesday marked a breakout performance for Kristina King. The junior made 6-of-8 from the field and added four free throws for 16 points. King finished second in rebounds with eight. Tynice Martin etched her seventh consecutive double-figure scoring game with 16 points. She grabbed six rebounds and collected two steals in 34 minutes. Chania Ray dished out four assists to lead WVU. Lanay Montgomery was limited for a second straight game due to foul trouble, scoring four points and pulling down three boards. West Virginia made 29-of-60 from the field for 48.3 percent shooting and connected on 5-of-16 from 3-point range for 31.3 percent. ECU was held to 35.8 percent shooting (19-of-53) from the field, becoming the fifth WVU opponent this season to shoot less than 40 percent. In the rebounds column, WVU outmanned ECU, 41-32, and outscored the Pirates 34-22 inside the paint. For a fourth game this season, West Virginia recorded double-figure steals with 11. West Virginia opened the first quarter on a 10-2 run. ECU would use a 7-3 run to trim the Mountaineer advantage to 13-9. Teana Muldrow added back-to-back buckets to put WVU up 21-16 at the end of the quarter. In the second quarter, West Virginia utilized a 16-2 run and held the Pirates for nearly a five minute stretch. Martin’s layup with 1:08 on the clock gave WVU a 39-25 edge to end the half. East Carolina trimmed the game to 12 points on multiple occasions in the third period. WVU Edges Auburn for Savannah Invite Title Lanay Montgomery’s layup with 12 seconds remaining gave the No. 19/23-ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team a 56-52 victory over Auburn to claim the Savannah Invitational Championship on Thursday evening at the Savannah Civic Center. The Mountaineers (6-0) led by as many as 14 points in the first half before Auburn (5-1) closed the period on a 15-4 run to cut the halftime lead to 31-28. WVU pushed its advantage to 10, 38-28, with a Montgomery layup at 7:06 left in the third. The Tigers held a brief one-point lead for 1:35 in the fourth quarter, but the Mountaineers maintained a slim lead down the stretch. Auburn’s Jessica Jones made a layup with 1:19 left to tie the game at 52-52. With 12 seconds remaining, Teana Muldrow grabbed an offensive rebound and Montgomery converted the layup for the game-winning basket. Tynice Martin closed out the game with two free throws to give West Virginia its best start since the 2010-11 season. Montgomery finished with 13 points, five rebounds and three blocks in 22 minutes. Martin led the team with 16 points, which nine of those points were from behind the arc. Muldrow matched her career-high with 14 rebounds and finished with eight points and three assists. Kristina King made 3-of-4 from the field and added two free throws to finish with eight points. Martin, a native of Atlanta, earned Savannah Invitational MVP honors and Muldrow was named to the All-Tournament Team. West Virginia shot 38.5 percent (20-of-52) from the field and made 37.5 percent (6-of-16) of its three point attempts. Auburn shot 27.6 percent (16-of-58) from the field and 25.0 percent (5-of-20) behind the arc. Auburn became the seventh consecutive WVU opponent to shoot less than 40 percent from the field. The Mountaineers withstood the Auburn defensive attack, turning the ball over just 22 times. The Tigers came into the game forcing an average of 30-plus turnovers. Montgomery scored the Mountaineers first three points and WVU eventually pushed out to a 14-3 lead. A King layup make on the fast break drew the and-one to push the WVU advantage to 22-13 at the end of one WVU lead 31-28 at halftime. West Virginia opened the third quarter on a 10-0 run, but Auburn fired back. And trimmed the game to one on multiple occasions. King’s layup gave WVU a 44-43 edge at the end of three. Auburn took its only lead in the game with Frerking layup with 8:04 left in the contest. WVU answered immediately with a King jumper. The game went back-and-forth, including a Jones layup with 1:19 on the clock to tie the game at 52-52. From there, WVU used its four-point spurt to secure the sixth win of the season.

WVU Downs High Point for 7-0 Start Four Mountaineers eclipsed double-figures with Tynice Martin’s 21 points leading the way in the No. 19/23-ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team’s 82-59 victory over High Point on Sunday at the WVU Coliseum. A high-scoring first quarter saw the Mountaineers hold a slight 28-22 edge. The team built its halftime advantage to 45-31. West Virginia led the entire game and stretched its lead to 25 points in the fourth quarter. WVU improved to 7-0, the program’s best start since the 2010-11 season, and extended its program-record nonconference win streak at the WVU Coliseum to 28. Martin made 10-of-20 from the field to finish with 21 points, four assists and four steals. The performance was Martin’s third 20-point game of the season and her ninth consecutive game in double-figure scoring. Lanay Montgomery had a standout performance, registering her second double-double this season and the 11th of her career, with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Montgomery blocked five shots, dished out three assists and snatched two steals in 31 minutes. Teana Muldrow also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Overall, West Virginia made 33-of-66 from the field for 50 percent shooting and held its eighth consecutive opponent to less than 40 percent shooting as High Point shot at a 35.6 percent (21-of-59) clip. From three-point range, WVU connected on 5-of-17 for 29.4 percent compared to HPU’s 5-of-14 for 35.7 percent. The Mountaineers matched a season-high with 20 assists. Defensively, West Virginia netted a season-high 16 steals and blocked eight shots. The Mountaineers converted 24 High Point turnovers into 27 points. West Virginia opened the game to a 9-3 advantage, capitalizing on four early High Point miscues. The Panthers battled back to trim the game to an 11-9 WVU edge after a 6-2 spurt. A Kristina King layup pushed WVU’s lead to 23-10 with 2:11 remaining in the period. HPU closed the period on a 12-5 run to narrow the gap to 28-22. Ray’s three-pointer at 6:30 extended the Mountaineer lead to 14, capping a 9-1 WVU run to open the second quarter. Just a minute later, High Point narrowed the lead to 10 points. However, West Virginia maintained a 14-point cushion with a 45-31 halftime advantage. Martin and Muldrow combined for 12 of West Virginia’s first 14 points in the third quarter. A jumper by Martin with 5:53 remaining pushed the Mountaineer lead to 23. Katrina Pardee’s jumper gave WVU a 63-43 edge at the end of three. Pardee would finish with nine points. WVU scored its first eight points from the free throw line the fourth quarter until a Martin jumper at 5:06. The Mountaineers outpaced HPU 19-16 in the frame.

Montgomery Moves WVU Past Morehead State A stellar performance from senior center Lanay Montgomery propelled the No. 16/17-ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team to a 94-53 victory over Morehead State on Wednesday at the WVU Coliseum. West Virginia held an early eight-point advantage, but MSU’s Katelyn Byrd made a triple with 3:09 remaining in the first quarter to give Morehead State a 15-14 lead. Montgomery’s layup 35 seconds later sparked a 13-0 Mountaineer run. Later in the second quarter, WVU used a Montgomery layup and a Katrina Pardee three-pointer to jump start a 17-0 spurt. West Virginia (8-0) scored its second-most points of the season and rolled to a 29th consecutive win against nonconference competition at the WVU Coliseum. Morehead State’s two-game win streak was snapped, as the Eagles fell to 5-3 on the season. Montgomery’s historic performance included a career-high 23 points, matching a season-high 18 rebounds and blocking six shots in 25 minutes. She made 10-of-11 field goal attempts for 90.9 percent shooting from the field. The Pittsburgh native was just the second WVU player in history to score at least 20-plus points, grab at least 18-plus rebounds and block five or more shots. Only WVU Hall of Famer Georgeann Wells had a better performance against Marshall in 1984, scoring 35 points, pulling down 19 rebounds and blocking eight shots. The double-double was the third for Montgomery this year and the 12th of her career. Teana Muldrow also netted her third double-double this season with 18 points and 13 rebounds. The junior matched a career-high four assists, blocked three shots and collected three steals. Montgomery and Muldrow are the first WVU duo to tally double-doubles in back-to-back games since Liz Repella and Takisha Granberry accomplished the feat versus FIU and NJIT in November 2008. Tynice Martin reached double-figure scoring for a 10th consecutive game with 17 points. Also in double-figures, Kristina King posted 14 and grabbed seven rebounds. West Virginia shot 47.4 percent (36-of-76) from the field and 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from behind the arc. The Mountaineers held their ninth consecutive opponent to less than 40 percent shooting and their fourth opponent this season to less than 30 percent shooting, as Morehead State was limited to 29.4 percent (20-of-68) from the field. In the rebound column, WVU grabbed 59 boards compared to MSU’s 43. The Mountaineers blocked a season-best 15 shots, the most since deflecting 15 against Kansas State on Jan. 21, 2015. WVU also matched a season-high with 20 assists.
