St. Bonaventure vs. Ark.-Little Rock: The Last Meeting Jan. 11, 2011 at Little Rock, Ark.: St. Bonaventure 68, ALR 55 In a strange scheduling twist, this was the second game of a home-and-home series between the teams in the 2010-11 sea-son. Demitrius Conger booked a double-double with game highs of 21 points and 10 boards, Ogo Adegboye had 17 to go with nine assists, and St. Bonaventure ended its non-conference season with a 68-55 win. The Bonnies took control for good behind a 16-2 run that turned a 39-37 advantage into a 16-point cushion at the 7:51 mark of the final period. The run – powered by 3s from Adegboye and Conger – occurred with preseason Atlantic 10 first team selection Andrew Nicholson on the bench, as the junior was saddled with foul trouble from the start. He finished with 11 points on 5-of-8 from the floor in just 20 minutes of action.

St. Bonaventure’s Last Game: Florida 73, Bonnies 66

St. Bonaventure overcame a 15-point second half deficit but could not solve Florida in the closing minute, falling 73-66 to the Gators on Thursday at Lakeland Center. With 1:42 remaining, Matt Mobley tied the game at 66-66 on a three-point play. Florida regained the lead on two free throws with 58 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Mobley had to force a shot late in the shot clock and the Gators grabbed the miss and pushed it ahead for a dunk to go ahead 70-66. The Bonnies missed another shot and Florida again converted it into points to secure the win. Mobley led all scorers with a career high 28 points on 10-21 shooting. He was 6-12 from three-point range. Jaylen Adams finished with 20 points.

He is joined in the backcourt by Kemy Osse, who averages 14. points per game and is 11-22 from three-point range so far.• Senior Lis Shoshi is the top post player for ALR. He aver-ages 8.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. Senior swingman Maurius Hill is at 11 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. • The Trojans are led by first-year coach Wes Flanigan, who was the associate head coach last season.

2016-17 ST. BONAVENTURE BASKETBALL GAME NOTES

Adams Named One of 50 Finalists for John Wooden AwardSt. Bonaventure junior Jaylen Adams has been named one of the top 50 candidates for the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy’s®. Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for college basket-ball’s most prestigious individual honor.Adams is one of two Atlantic 10 Conference players to make the top 50 along with David-son guard Jack Gibbs.

Adams Earns Preseason AccoladesIn addition to being a Wooden Award finalist, Jaylen Adams earned numerous other pre-season accolades. These include:• Preseason honorable mention All-American by SI.com.• Listed “Also Considered” by Sports Illustrated in its list of preseason national player of the year candidates• Fifth-ranked point guard by Lindy’s college basketball magazine • Atlantic 10 Conference preseason All-Conference first team• No. 2 on A10Talk.com’s list of the top players in the conference• No. 13 on American Sports Network’s list of the top 100 players the network covers• Big 4 preseason Player of the Year Last season, Adams was named to the All-Atlantic 10 first team and to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 4 second team. He tied for eighth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring at 17.9 points per game, led the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage (.438) and finished fourth in free throw percentage (.874). Adams also averaged 5.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. His .438 three-point percentage is the second-best mark in school history. After last season, Sports Illustrated named Adams one of its most surprising players of the 2015-16 season. In July, Adams attended the adidas Nations camp in Los Angeles, a prestigious event for a select group of top players.

Bonnies Picked Fifth In A-10St. Bonaventure was picked to finish fifth out of the 14 A-10 teams. The preseason rank is the highest for St. Bonaventure since the 2011-12 season, when the Bonnies were chosen to finish fourth.Dayton edged out Rhode Island 374-370 as the A-10’s preseason favorite. Both the order of finish and preseason all-conference teams were chosen by vote of the conference’s head coaches and a panel of media mem-bers. The entire poll is on page 5.

Team CaptainsSt. Bonaventure’s team captains for this season are Denzel Gregg, Idris Taqqee and Jaylen Adams. Taqqee was a co-captain last year as well.

Mobley Sprints Out Of GateBy any measure, junior guard Matt Mobley is off to a fantastic start to his debut season at St. Bonaventure. Mobley, who sat out last year after transferring from Central Connecti-cut State, is averaging 24.5 points per game. After opening the year with 21 points against St. Francis, he turned heads when he scored 28 points against Florida. Mobley’s 49 points are the most scored by a St. Bonaventure player in his first two games since statistical records have been kept. Mobley ranks third in the A-10 in scoring. Mobley’s production is not a surprise. He practiced with the Bonnies last season after transferring from Central Connecticut, where he averaged 17 points per game as a sophomore and was named the Northeast Conference’s most improved player. Mobley had four games of 30-plus points that season.

Gregg Primed To Cap Career In StyleLike many St. Bonaventure players before, Denzel Gregg’s career has been marked by yearly development. The team’s only four-year senior, the 6-7 forward appears ready for the most productive season of his career. While he has become a fan favorite for his highlight-reel dunks and blocks,

Gregg has rounded out his offensive game, adding a three-point shot and mid-range jumper last year. Last season, he was the team’s instant spark off the bench and the A-10’s coaches noticed, naming him the co-Sixth Man of the Year in the conference. Fifteen of his 17 career games in double figures were last year. Gregg is a player who has developed from a little-known recruit into a very productive player. Gregg Climbing Blocks ChartDenzel Gregg ranks sixth on St. Bonaven-ture’s career blocks list with 86. He is 11 be-hind Jerome Spellman for fifth place. Gregg has a very good chance to become just the fifth player in program history to reach 100 career blocked shots.

Celebrating 50 Years of the Reilly Center

Known as one of the top home court advantages in the A-10, this is the 50th season of the Reilly Center. Built in the spring and summer of 1966, the RC hosted its first game on Dec. 2, 1966, when the Bonnies defeated Quincy. The court was named for Basketball Hall Famer of Famer Bob Lanier ‘70 in 2007.

13 Home Wins in 2015-16At 13-3 last year, the Bonnies set the mark for most home wins during Mark Schmidt’s tenure as head coach. The program record for wins at the RC is 14 set by the 1976-77 NIT Championship club.

Last Five YearsOver the last five seasons, St. Bonaventure’s record at the RC was 51-21 (.708). The Bonnies had three seasons with double-figure home wins in that span: 13 last year, 11 in 2011-12 and 10 in 2013-14.

RC Tops ESPN Fan PollLast summer, the Reilly Center was selected as the toughest place for opponents to play in the Atlantic 10 through a fan vote held on ESPN.com. The RC earned 2,256 votes -- 33 percent of the Atlantic 10 fan voting. Schmidt Third On Coaching Win ListNow in his 10th season as head coach at St. Bonaventure, Mark Schmidt ranks third on the program’s all-time coaching wins list. Last season, he passed Eddie Donovan, Jim Baron and Mike Reilly. Schmidt is the fourth-longest tenured coach in the Atlantic 10 behind St. Joseph’s Phil Martelli (now in his 21st season), LaSalle’s John Giannini (13th) and Richmond’s Chris Mooney (11th). Taqqee The Bonnies’ Glue GuyJunior Idris Taqqee brings a hard-nosed, self-less approach to the court -- often described by Bonnies coach Mark Schmidt as a “glue guy” who does all the little things necessary for success. One of the team’s co-captains for the second year in a row, Taqqee blos-somed last year, starting every game this season and averaging 5.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. He had some of his best games when they counted the most. He opened many eyes in the Feb. 27 win over UMass as he went 5-7 from three-point range and scored a career high 19 points. He also became a very reliable defender, often as-signed to the opponent’s top wing. His fresh-man year, Taqqee played just 8.3 minutes and averaged 1.2 points per game.

Working In The New GuysSt. Bonaventure has six new players on the roster – three freshmen, one junior, one senior and one graduate student. That is not counting Courtney Stockard, who is out for the season due to a foot injury. The new-comers are led by upperclasmen Chinonso Obokoh, David Andoh and Matt Mobley. Obokoh is a graduate transfer who played at Syracuse the past three seasons. He brings an interior presence with his rebounding and shot-blocking abilities. Andoh aver-aged 10 points and 7.0 rebounds at Liberty and should make an impact coming off the bench; he battled a stress fracture in his foot over the summer but is almost fully back. Freshmen forwards Josh Ayeni, Amadi Ikpeze and guard Tareq Coburn make up a promis-ing class. All three will have a chance to play immediately.

Griffin’s OpportunityLaDarien Griffin played in just 11 games last season for a total of 30 minutes. Now much more comfortable with the system as a sophomore, Griffin will have the chance to earn a meaningful role. The Jacksonville, Fla., native has added almost 20 pounds since last season, moving to 210 lbs. on his 6-6 frame. The injury to Courtney Stockard also opened up playing time at the wing spot. Griffin played 10 minutes against St. Francis and scored three points.

Three-Point ThreatLast season, St. Bonaventure led the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage at .373. The Bonnies returned the A-10’s three-point leader in Jaylen Adams (.438) and add a very capable shooter in Matt Mobley, who made 36 percent of his three-point attempts as a sophomore at Central Connecticut State. Denzel Gregg showed three-point skill last year, going 15-45 (.333) and junior Idris Taqqee made 35 percent (16-46) of his shots from long range last season.

Tough To Match That OffenseThe Bonnies averaged 77.9 points per game last season, the best average during coach Mark Schmidt’s tenure and the third-highest scoring average in the A-10. Before that, Schmidt’s highest-scoring team was in 2013-14 when the Bonnies averaged 73.4 points per game. Marcus Posley (19.7) and Dion Wright (16.9) combined to average 36.6 points per game last year, and they have both moved on to pro careers.

Five Years Of Excellence St. Bonaventure established several program firsts last season, which continued the win-ning trend under head coach Mark Schmidt. The past five years have been the best in the program’s history since the late 1970s. A look at some of the Bonnies’ accomplish-ments over the last five seasons:• Postseason berths in 2016 (NIT) and 2012 (NCAA Tournament).• 2016 A-10 regular season co-champions - first in school history.• 2012 A-10 Tournament champions - first in school history• Overall record: 92-64 (.589)• Atlantic 10 record: 47-37 (.559)• Averaged 18.4 wins per season overall and 9.4 conference wins• Two 20-win seasons• Four consecutive wins over ranked opponents (active streak)• Six wins in the A-10 Tournament• Six All-Conference selections• Home record of 51-21 (.708)• NBA first round draft pick Andrew Nicholson ‘12 (Orlando Magic)• 11 more players signed pro contracts

Foot Surgery Sidelines Stockard For 2016-17 SeasonJunior forward Courtney Stockard will miss the 2016-17 season due to a foot injury.Stockard underwent surgery Oct. 31 on his right foot. The injury is similar to the one which caused him to miss all of last season.“Everyone in our program feels terribly for Courtney,” said St. Bonaventure coach Mark Schmidt. “He had worked very hard to come back from last year’s injury, and I know he will again this time. We’ll support him in every way we can.”A 6-6 forward from St. Louis, Stockard spent two seasons at Allen (Kansas) Community College prior to enrolling at St. Bonaventure. • The 19th coach in the 95 seasons of basketball at St. Bonaventure; this is his 10th season as head man of the Bonnies and 16th as a head coach.

• Last season, the Bonnies tied the program record for wins in the regular season (22) and set a school record for Atlantic 10 wins (14), winning a share of their first-ever A-10 regular season title. Schmidt was selected the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year by his peers – only the third Bona coach so honored and first since Jim Baron in 1995. Among the Bonnies’ wins this season was a 79-72 decision at Dayton – the program’s fourth straight win over a ranked team and first-ever road win over a Top 25 program.

• He helped three Bonnies players earn All-Conference honors in 2015-16: Jaylen Adams (1st team), Marcus Posley (2nd) and Denzel Gregg (Co-Sixth Man of Year), the second year in a row St. Bonaventure has had multiple players recognized.

• In the summer of 2016, St. Bonaventure rewarded Schmidt with a new contract that included an extension that runs through the 2021-22 season.

• Schmidt is third on St. Bonaventure’s all-time coaching wins list with 146. He has led St. Bonaventure to two 20-win seasons and 15 or more wins in seven of his nine seasons.

• The 2014-15 Bonnies were yet another example of Schmidt’s ability to get the most out of every team he coaches. Depsite losing three starters from the prior year, including the backcourt of Charlon Kloof and Matthew Wright, Schmidt led St. Bonaventure to 18 wins -- including a 10-8 mark in the Atlantic 10. The Bonnies won three games over top-50 RPI teams and their 10 Atlantic 10 victories were second-most in school history.

• Under Schmidt’s guidance, both senior center Youssou Ndoye and junior guard Marucs Posley earned third team All-Conference honors in 2014-15. Ndoye, a little known prospect, earned an NBA Developmental League contract with the San Antonio Spurs in 2015.

• Schmidt’s blue-collar efforts to revive the tradition-rich St. Bonaventure program resulted in a championship season in 2011-12. The Bonnies won their first-ever Atlantic 10 title with three straight victories in Atlantic City, N.J. In the NCAA Tournament, they held a lead over No. 3 seed Florida State for nearly the entire game but fell by three points.

• Instrumental in the development of 2012 A-10 Player of the Year and AP Honorable Mention All-American Andrew Nicholson, who ended his career ranked second in school history in scoring (2,103 points) and fourth in rebounds (887). Nicholson was selected by the Orlando Magic in the First Round of the 2012 NBA Draft; he is now with the Washington Wizards.

• Schmidt has coached a total of 19 St. Bonaventure players who have earned professional contracts: Dion Wright, Posley, Ndoye, Nicholson, Kloof, Cumberbatch, Wright, Simmons, Da’Quan Cook, Chris Johnson, Demetrius Conger, Chris Matthews, Eric Mosley, Jonathan Hall, Ogo Adegboye, Michael Lee, Zarryon Fereti, Tyler Relph and D’Lancy Carter.

• Has recruited and developed 10 NBA draft picks, including first-round picks James Posey (#18), David West (#18) and Nicholson (#19).
