Dear Adventurers,

It doesn’t take a renaissance man like Leonardo da Vinci to know that “Water is the driver of Nature.” My time spent growing up, living and working on boats, and yearns for adventure over the years has held that knowledge true to my core—clearly fueling my desire and vision of sharing with you, a world on the water. A vision brought to life through the expertise of our crew and office team who are just as passionate as I am about providing unconventional adventures and going beyond your expectations.

Un-Cruise Adventures speaks to innovation, to freedom, and taking extra steps to provide you with a meaningful and exhilarating travel experience. After all, time is precious and what we do with it matters. Our voyages are inclusive of the many elements that define the quality and value of your experience, and several of our vessels even include a more generous offering of inclusions and benefits.

As you vicariously travel through these pages, we hope you’ll uncover what inspires the adventurer in you. The choices are there. New in 2015 is our inclusive wine-focused river cruise along the Columbia & Snake Rivers (in early crush when the grape harvest begins). Give us a call, visit our website and Facebook page, and discover something special. Be discriminating—choose differently.

Unconventional. Uncompromising.The Un-Cruise Adventures Story

What began in 1996 has flourished into Un-Cruise Adventures—unmatched, hands-on small group explorations. Our nimble fleet of expedition vessels, yachts, and a replica turn-of-the-century coastal steamer serve as your platform in Alaska, Mexico’s Sea of Cortés, the Hawaiian Islands, Columbia & Snake Rivers, and in the coastal waters of Washington State and British Columbia.

Our mission is this: To provide our guests an enriching adventure travel experience and inspire an appreciation of local cultures and the natural world.

We’ve got grit. And it’s that dedication, passion, and love-of-life mindset that steadies our sails and guides our innovative approach to small ship cruising. Un-Cruise Adventures gives you unmatched and unbelievable access—explore waters inaccessible to larger ships, step ashore in small communities for exclusive interaction, and get up-close with wildlife. Filled with unspoiled encounters, our adventures focus on activities and excursions that complement the wilderness, wildlife, and culture of the places we visit. It’s at the core of what we do. Change the way you see the world.

Built on a reputation of quality and experience, our explorations are intended to inspire and satisfy your curious nature. Every rare encounter, unexpected “aha!” moment, and uncommon amenity and activity are unique to your destination, itinerary, and vessel—and they are all exceptional.

Aboard our adventure cruises, you can expect days of play and relaxation—wildlife in its natural environment; exhilarating activities such as hiking and kayaking; wilderness exploration by expedition vessel or yacht; and personal exchanges behind the scenes with locals.

On our river cruises, you’ll be engaged and entertained on board and ashore. We include shore excursions to historic sites and museums; wine tasting and local culinary treats; presentations from onboard heritage guides and historians; and living history and cultural discoveries.

Guests rave about the Un-Cruise experience and how genuine our crew is, often commenting that it’s not like a cruise at all. Yet the biggest endorsement from our guests: they come back, and they refer us to their friends. Our secret… we work in thriving environments; we promote good health in our bodies and on our planet; we enjoy the freedom from perpetual hurry; and we get to share our casual, far from ordinary, memory-making adventures with you.

Onboard TeamThe best in the industry—our captains, chefs, guides, hotel and deck staff are individually selected not only for their outstanding knowledge, customer service, and safety skills, but also for their genuinely welcoming and enthusiastic personalities. Our expedition and heritage teams are experienced guides with advanced training in natural and/or cultural history. Our customer service staff is made up of energetic men and women who are as excited about where you’re going as you are. Our captains and engineers have the certifications and skills to provide you with a safe and confident cruise experience.

Experts in the FieldIn addition to getting extraordinarily close to nature and wildlife, we ensure that guests have opportunities to learn about what they are seeing and experiencing. We engage experts and historians to interpret, narrate, or bring history to life. In Alaska, a National Park Ranger might join you on board for up to two days; or a U.S. Forest Service wilderness ranger kayaks right up to the vessel and hops aboard to talk about natural history and their special bond with the land. Or in Hawaii, a respected elder teaches you to make poi. And on any special themed departure, your experience is enhanced by hands-on interaction with a guest host. Supplementing our onboard team, these specialists provide a tremendous resource and added value for all guests on board.

We’ve deservedly earned our reputation—one guest at a time.

Wining & DiningAll of our meals ensure innovative, healthful dining experiences and our executive chefs use ingredients that reflect the flavors of your destination. Mornings feature an early-riser breakfast of fresh fruit, baked-on-board pastries and breads, and a full breakfast complete with specialty items. Lunches range from pasta salads and sandwiches to homemade soups and ethnic dishes. Dinners offer a choice of entrées that include fresh seafood and meats. Vegetarian dishes are available and special dietary needs can be met with advance notice. Hors d’oeuvres are offered during the cocktail hour, and desserts are varied and plentiful.

Unless there’s a barbecue on deck or some other special event, most meals are served over several courses—with particular attention to your personal preferences. We offer a casual-style dining experience, and seating is open so you are free to join new friends and choose a different table at every meal. And if you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or other milestone occasion, let us know before you board and our expert pastry chef will make it memorable by whipping up a surprise treat.

Our approach to wetting-your-whistle is as uncharacteristic as our vessels. And depending on the one you’re on, you could find yourself in the setting of a cozy neighborhood pub, a rustic turn-of-the-century saloon, a quiet wine bar, or an intimate upscale lounge. Fine spirits, wines, and microbrews are served aboard all of our vessels, with many even featuring sustainable cask wines on tap. A rotating list of wine and microbrew selections will vary depending on your destination. On many of our itineraries, wine, beer, and spirits are included in your fare.

Outer Decks & Inner SpacesEach vessel has its own unique personality, but all share a universal goal and with you in mind—to relax and be comfortable. Designed to bring the outside in, they come alive with art and artifacts from the places we travel. And our open bridge policy welcomes you to visit and discuss navigation with the captain.

Public spaces common throughout the fleet include an inviting dining room, main lounge or salon (with a varied collection of board games, books, and DVDs), and observation decks ideal for close-up wildlife viewing and relaxing under the stars. You may also find a hot tub, massage room, and sauna; and most of our vessels are equipped with an underwater hydrophone, a kayak launch platform or swim step (making access water to the water easy), as well as, cameras that connect to the TVs, bringing life in the water directly inside the boat!

Wellness, Fitness & RelaxationOnboard amenities allow you to escape through morning yoga stretches, relaxing in the on-deck hot tub or sauna, laps around the deck, enjoying a workout on the fitness equipment, or being pampered by our wellness instructor / massage therapist. Nature’s splendor takes care of the rest. And at the end of your cruise, our onboard team will send you off with a renewed sense of beauty and spirit.

A complimentary massage is included as an added bonus aboard the S.S. Legacy, Safari Endeavour, and Safari Explorer. Depending on your massage therapist, your choices may include traditional massage, lomi lomi, shiatsu, or a comfortable chair massage.

Amenities vary by vessel; refer to the Fleet Comparison chart on page 60 for details.

We offer activities to suit a range of skill levels and preferences. So take it easy, or stay on the go—your onboard expedition team will provide the insight needed for you to make a safe and enjoyable choice.

Chances are—with maximum capacities of 22, 36, 60, 74, 76, 84, and 88—there’s a boat that perfectly accommodates your group and your vision. Every vessel afloat in the Un-Cruise fleet is available for a private charter or perfect for a group travel adventure.

There’s nothing like privacy! And with a private charter, it’s all about you. Charters provide an excellent way to bring together family and friends, an incentive group, or provide the ideal platform for a corporate retreat, all without the hassle of arranging provisions, crew, or routes. Let us tailor a private charter with your special focus in mind—complete with activities, amenities, and onboard staff. We’ll handle all the details, leaving you to sit back and soak in the experience of a lifetime.

For groups of travelers who share a common interest or mission, whether an affinity group or a corporate team, we offer a full-service platform to meet your needs. Imagine team building in the Southeast Alaskan outback or Mexico’s Sea of Cortés, stepping out on deck to photograph humpback whales, or kayaking and hiking in virtually uninhabited wilderness—the benefits are unparalleled. With private charters, corporations also benefit from potential U.S. flag tax breaks.

Reconnect and discover. There are many reasons why families and friends take time to relax and travel together: birthdays, retirement, girlfriend getaways, reunions, anniversaries, weddings, or “just because”—events that create lasting memories; and our explorations are ideally suited for those unique occasions in life. So unplug and engage on a trip of a lifetime.

Thoreau once wrote, “We need the tonic of wildness...We can never have enough of nature.” Shaped by massive glaciers over millions of years, Alaska’s temperate rainforests, wildlife-rich fjords, and spectacular scenery have had significant time to gain clout as a must-see-in-my-lifetime destination. For centuries, its channels and waterways have served as important travel corridors for Native Tlingit, Tsimshian, and Haida peoples, and a natural laboratory of discovery for explorers, authors, naturalists, and visionaries.

Nobody does Alaska better than us, offers more variety, or provides adventure like we do. Our diverse fleet of small ships is perfectly suited to foster uncommon encounters and unexpected experiences—two days in Glacier Bay National Park; brown bears, black bears, and “polar bear plunges”; rainforests and glaciers; hiking and kayaking; humpback whales and orca; bald eagles and sea birds. And no matter which ship you choose, our expert expedition teams guide you on a unique and unforgettable journey.

Days 2-11

Be inspired, take in the pure air, and fill your days with backcountry hikes, paddling in pristine coves, intertidal shore walks, and fantastic companionship—orca, seals, sea lions and otters, whales, dolphins, sea birds, bald eagles, and of course, your fellow adventurers. Explore quaint Friday Harbor’s maritime history and enjoy an afternoon of gunkholing before passing through Canada’s and Alaska’s Inside Passages, a world of contrasts—gray misty mornings, white-capped mountains, and colorful totems. Glacial valleys in Misty Fjords provide an up-close look at this majestic wilderness, some of the most monumental vistas of your journey. In Wrangell and Ketchikan, hear stories of Tlingit culture, view carved totems, and stroll notorious Creek Street, once a red-light district in downtown Ketchikan. Behm Canal’s abundant wildlife, Thomas Bay’s legends of mythical shapeshifting “Kushtaka,” and zigzagging navigational lights in Wrangell Narrows “Christmas Tree Lane” are just a handful of the interesting nuggets you could write home about.

Days 12-13

It’s your last full day in Alaska. Explore a long and narrow glacially carved fjord and be awed by blue ice and the calving white thunder of a glacier. Keep your eyes open for arctic terns or seals lazing on a passing bergy. And watch for breaching whales in Frederick Sound—the summer feeding grounds

A TURNING POINT IN ANY LIFE, it was Eliza’s first trip to Alaska. Led by a strong mind and heart, Eliza Scidmore—writer, photographer, lecturer, geographer—was a maverick in her own right. In the summer of 1883 she set sail on a fascinating journey along the Inside Passage delivering supplies and mail. Her first book recounted her Alaska travels, launching a lifelong career as a travel writer. Setting sail from Seattle heading north through the Salish Sea to Alaska, your adventure will be just as memorable.

Days 2-6

Surrounded by scenery more spectacular than any place on earth, you’ll understand Muir’s sentiments. Traveling nearly 60 miles up-bay, over two days a Glacier Bay National Park ranger shares the park’s fascinating geology and history. Board a skiff and weave among icebergs that have cracked off the face of a glacier. Kayak in the quiet of majestic wilderness and relish in unfettered time on hikes ashore. Back at the boat, your crackerjack team is there to greet you with a hot toddy when you return, so enjoy the thrill of the wild, and the unhindered coddling. More ultimate exploration awaits you in Icy Strait, Frederick Sound, and Stephens Passage—some of the richest whale waters in Southeast Alaska. Join the captain on the bridge or go on deck with your expedition team and keep watch for porpoise, sea lions, and the telltale blow of humpbacks. Enjoy the comforts on board and discover a world of wonder in those “not in the guidebook” places.

Days 7-8

Cliff-walled fjords and a pristine tidal inlet are on tap today as you slip into an area widely acclaimed as the most beautiful in Alaska—Endicott Arm and Fords Terror. Explore this majestic fjord by kayak or skiff, a unique opportunity indeed. Rugged ice-covered mountains gleam high overhead and a glacier actively calves into the ice-filled fjord. Enjoy a festive Farewell Dinner, and before

“THE CLEAREST WAY INTO THE UNIVERSE IS THROUGH A FOREST WILDERNESS.” With champagne in hand, after boarding in Juneau you’ll sail into secluded Alaska wilderness in the spirit of John Muir, America’s most famous and influential naturalist. Muir was the first in a long line of distinguished scientists to visit Glacier Bay National Park, and you certainly won’t be the last. Renowned for his exciting adventures, Muir’s heart remained wild throughout his life. Following in his footsteps, yours surely will be too.

Days 2-6

Pass go and don’t stop as you sail into Glacier Bay, one of America’s crown jewel national parks—for two days, it’s yours for the taking. Accompanied by one of the park’s rangers, take a boot-sucking hike through sandbars and rainforest and go face-to-face with glaciers, only to be greeted with a warm mug of hot chocolate when you step back on board. Lingering for wildlife during your two full days in the park, you’ll find sea lions, mountain goats, sea otters, bears, moose, eagles, brightly-colored puffins, Black Oystercatchers, and many other species of rare sea birds. With camera in hand, join the captain on the bridge or your expedition team out on deck and set your course for arguably the richest whale waters in Southeast Alaska. Ride the skiffs for a closer inspection of the rugged, wild shore with eyes set for possible bear sightings and anchor in remote waters for an opportunity to lower the kayaks and skiffs or enjoy an intertidal walk with your guides. Days 7-8

The small boat haven of Peril Strait connects to the very narrow, historic, and wildlife-rich Sergius Narrows—a great place to watch the shoreline for bears, the waters for otters and whales, and to look skyward for eagles. After an adventurous, but “unperilous” day, toast your voyage with a

IN A LAND WHERE EVERYTHING IS GREAT—mountains, glaciers, wilderness, and wildlife, not to mention thousands of miles of coastline—one has to wonder what all the hubbub was about when U.S. Secretary of State William Seward instigated the purchase of Alaska from Russia. Unwavering in his effort, in March of 1867 it became Seward’s most successful achievement. The purchase was mocked by the public as “Seward’s Folly,” but rolling in his grave, he had the last laugh with the discovery of gold a mere 30 years later. Sail through the channel out of Juneau, and discover its greatness for yourself.

Days 2-6

Pass by hundreds of cascading waterfalls and some of the largest icebergs in all of Alaska, then reach the glaciers at the end of a winding fjord, and it’s sure to cure whatever ails you. Poetic in every sense of the word, the Tracy Arm Wilderness Area and Thomas Bay offer up some of the finest paddling, hiking, and legends in Southeast Alaska. Take it easy on a lush forest trail or intertidal shore walk, get down and dirty in the muskeg and mud, or go big on an 11-mile hike to a glacially-fed lake. Learn about Kushtaka—mythical shape-shifting creatures—and steer clear when exploring by kayak, paddle board, or skiffing along shore. Legends and lore continue with totems and a sacred tribal house. The wild life is everywhere, but in Frederick Sound and along Behm Canal, it’ll likely take shape in the form of bears, wolves, harbor seals, sea lions, orca, and humpbacks. Days 7-8

It’s your last day for play, and time to soak in the splendor of a largely forgotten corner of the world—Misty Fjords National Monument—affectionately called “The Yosemite of the North.” Glacial valleys filled with sea water and sheer 3,000-foot cliffs are a haven for sea birds, brown and black bears, mountain goats, Sitka black-tailed deer, mink, moose, river otters, and other wildlife. This evening, enjoy a farewell toast and

“JUST THINK! SOME NIGHT THE STARS WILL GLEAM”—and you could be sitting in the hot tub beneath them. Back at the turn of the century, author and poet Robert Service didn’t have a hot tub, but he did write that line about the stars. And after spending several years on the Alaska frontier, you can bet that he’d seen a few. To be sure, he’d seen and heard plenty—gripping yarns of the wild Northwest and the pursuit of “the muck called gold.” Falling in love with their stories, he became an armchair adventurer. It’s time to pack your sense of adventure, board your vessel, and write your own.

It was wild and woolly then, and as you’ll discover firsthand, that still holds true today. The remoteness is unmatched, and this hidden gem is very much alive—alive with vivid, raw forest, and an abundance of wildlife both above and below the water’s surface. In unhindered passages and hidden coves, take to the water by kayak, paddle board, and skiff, keeping watch for a magical array of marine life. A popular summer feeding ground for whales, join playful porpoise, orca, humpbacks, and Steller sea lions in Frederick Sound and Stephens Passage—and along shore, keep your eyes alert for sea birds, eagles, wolves, and black bear. Discover a rustic Native community thriving on the outer reaches of the wild Alaska coastline; and hike a winding high forest trail to explore inside El Capitan Cave, the largest known cave in Alaska and one of the largest mapped caves in the Americas. Eager to share, your captain and expert expedition team know the secrets of the wilderness. Days 7-8

NEITHER CLOUD FAILURE, NOR LIqUID SUNSHINE gets in the way on this journey. The same could also be said about the young American naturalist, anthropologist, paleontologist, and geographer William Dall’s many expeditions to Alaska. The undisputed Alaska expert in both biology and Native cultures, he spent years writing about Alaska and documenting his vast collection for the Smithsonian Museum. Dall loved Alaska, and in 1880, he even took his new bride there for their honeymoon! Setting sail through the Tongass National Forest, it’s time to make your own discoveries.

The “when to go” question comes up often, in fact it’s almost always the first question asked. Rain, bears, whales, sunlight, northern lights—how much, how little, how long, what variety, how high, how low—these are all key interests when planning your Alaskan vacation. It is “The Great Land”, and therefore, there is no “cookie cutter” answer to these curiosities.

Just south of California lies an inland sea known as the Gulf of California, Vermilion Sea, Sea of Cortez, or Sea of Cortés. A birder’s paradise—this rich archipelago serves as an important bird refuge and migration corridor. It is a place author John Steinbeck and marine biologist Ed Ricketts found “ferocious with life” and described by Jacques Cousteau as the “world’s aquarium” and the “Galápagos of North America.” We tend to agree. UNESCO even declared it a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve, noting it as one of the most biologically diverse marine environments on Earth. These wildlife-rich waters and islands are home to both plants and animals found nowhere else.

Here, our inclusive 7-night island-hopping cruises in Mexico’s Sea of Cortés showcase a world of raw beauty, active adventure, authentic culture, and wildlife—sea turtles, boobies, pelicans, frigate birds, blue whales, gray whales, orca, humpback, pilot and fin whales, whale sharks, dolphins, mantas, and sea lions. Kayak in coastal mangroves and glassy coves. Hike along cactus-clad rims and among desert scrub. Snorkel alongside playful sea lions and colorful invertebrates. And in a picturesque setting of red rock cliffs, discover a centuries-old town or relax on a white-sand beach. Explore this extraordinary place and discover firsthand how small the human

presence here truly is.

In this massive natural aquarium—mobula and manta rays, dolphins, blue, fin, sei, orca, humpback, 50-ton sperm whales, and the tiny animals found in tide pools—you’ll also find grand birding opportunities. Blue-footed boobies, brown pelicans, cormorants, and gulls all call the area home. Whale sharks, the largest known species of fish in the ocean, are frequent visitors in Bahía de La Paz—watch for the ‘footprint’ of these gentle giants along the water’s tranquil surface; or, if the gray whales have arrived (typically January to March) to migrate and calve in Magdalena Bay—travel over land and ride a panga to observe them in the lagoon. Among islands once pillaged for their black pearls, nestle into hidden coves, explore a natural salt chuck, hike cactus-clad rims led by your top-notch expedition team, and join a ranchero family on a burro ride in the arroyos. Stroll Loreto’s picturesque plazas for local charm; and at a steep, craggy seamount, go for a snorkel with playful, agile sea lion pups. In a setting straight out of a movie set, kayak along barnacled rocks, SUP, and skiff amidst hues of blue in Half Moon Bay, Bahía Amortajada, and Ensenada Grande. By night, look up at the stars, and watch the waters for the magical luminescence.

Roughly 15,000 years ago and after sailing over 2,000 miles in canoes, Polynesians set foot on what is today—Hawaii. Formerly the “Sandwich Islands,” named by Captain Cook following his 1778 visit, the warring islands were united into a single royal kingdom by King Kamehameha in 1810. The kingdom enjoyed peaceful times during the king’s reign and has been flourishing ever since. Today, aloha spirit remains at the core of Hawaiian culture. An archipelago of volcanic islands and atolls, the chain forms the largest marine sanctuary in the world and one of the world’s most important habitats for humpback whales. Two-thirds of the North Pacific population migrates here each winter for breeding, calving, and nursing. We encounter many of these same humpbacks in Alaska where they feed during the summer months.

Your inclusive exploration, aboard a 36-guest yacht, carries you among the islands of Moloka‘i, Lana‘i, Maui, and Hawai‘i. Cruise along shore and watch marine life gracefully leap around your skiff; “talk story” with locals; enjoy exclusivity; and spend time at play—kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, and snorkeling. Onboard, relax on deck, mingle in the lounge, or chat up the captain. Many of our crew members are from the islands—so they know its secrets and keep it authentic—and uncover the islands’ natural gifts in a way only accessible on an Un-Cruise adventure. Immerse yourself in aloha, and experience the islands from a different perspective.

Get a sense of Hawaii long ago and talk story with the locals. Join your mostly local crew and be enticed by Hawaiian legend and the hula’s soothing rhythm. During a week of kayaking, snorkeling, paddle boarding, and cultural visits ashore, the history of this ancient homeland unfolds. With no stop lights and no high-rises, you’ll welcome leisure time in the paniolo town of Kaunakakai, the lingering scent of plumeria, and Moloka‘i’s slower pace. Gear up for water play at Lana‘i and hike to the island’s spatter and cinder cone, perhaps paddle an outrigger from a Maui beach and linger under Lahaina’s giant Banyan tree (with tuneful Myna’s perched limb-to-limb). The Humpback National Marine Sanctuary provides front-row seats as you cruise through the marine breeding grounds in search of dolphins, whales, and other marine life. By skiff, explore shores lined with lava tubes and coconut palm fringed bays along the island of Hawai‘i. Discover coral gardens chock-full of colorful corals and underwater life, snorkel in a known sea turtle habitat by day, and at night, with Giant Pacific Manta rays. The spirit of Aloha.

Days 7-8

On your last day, skiff into Kealakekua Bay—where Captain Cook was slain in 1779—for some of the islands’ best snorkeling. Uncover historic Kailua-Kona as you leisurely stroll around town.

LIKE A STRING OF PEARLS PULLED UP FROM THE SEA, the jewels of your voyage are its exclusive amenities and unmatched encounters. And much like King Kamehameha did back in 1810—uniting the islands into a joyous kingdom—you’ll follow suit, uniting the islands on harmonic voyage of exploration, exchanges with locals, and learning about Hawaii’s rich, Polynesian-influenced culture. Your inter-island yacht adventure promises to be filled with pleasantries, high-quality service, and warm alohas.

FARES INCLUDE

This evening, celebrate at the Captain’s Dinner and photographic recap of your adventure. After docking at Kawaihae Harbor, you’ll be transferred to the Kona Airport or to your extended Un-Cruise hotel stay.

Roll on, Columbia, roll on. Imagine lashing down the wagon with all your earthly belongings and being among the first to arrive along the Columbia, Snake, and Willamette Rivers. Nearly 40 years after the Corps of Discovery expedition of 1804, thousands were drawn west by cheap land, patriotism, or the promise of a better life. Forged by volcanic eruptions 40-60 million years ago and catastrophic floods near the end of the last ice-age, the basin has been inhabited by humans for over 15,000 years. Indigenous peoples had long been present when waves of pioneers arrived. Then industrialists came along to harness the mighty Columbia, and in 1943, the world’s first full-scale nuclear reactor was established at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation—as part of the Manhattan Project. Today, the river’s dams produce more hydroelectric power than any other North American river.

American beauty—embrace the American West spirit and encompass the dramatic contrast of stark natural vistas and hand-of-man achievements. Cruising nearly 1,000 miles—conveniently, roundtrip Portland, Oregon—our inclusive voyages aboard an 88-guest replica coastal steamer bring the history and stories of these rivers to life. Historians, crew in period uniform, guest experts, exclusive onboard living history presentations, and included excursions ashore to museums, historic forts, and wineries carry you through time, sharing its varied past and showing how agriculture and engineering have shaped this vast region. Unveil natural wonders, historical landmarks, and amazing human endeavors.

JOURNEY THROUGH TIME along the Columbia, Snake, and Willamette Rivers and your senses awaken much as they must have for Captain Robert Gray. In 1792, Gray discovered and named the Columbia River after his ship, the Columbia Reviva. As you push off from the Portland dock enjoying champagne and hors d’oeuvres, it is certain your bountiful expedition will have you traveling in greater comfort than your predecessors—who without the aid of modern amenities, undertook tough journeys. This week, joined by legendary and colorful personalities, the history along these shores comes to life.

Days 2-6

Passing alongside shores of evergreen forests, high desert, and canyons, you’ll cruise upriver transiting eight sets of locks and dams, and centuries of history. Your onboard heritage team retraces history through colorful stories and live renditions of hardship and triumph. Learn the legend of a beautiful Indian maiden—the winter spirit of a towering waterfall, and about the Nez Perce and their 1805 encounter with Lewis & Clark. Cruise the 80-mile long Columbia River Gorge, cutting through the Cascade Mountains and past hillsides of the huge wind turbines, orchards, vineyards, and wheat fields that have helped shape the land. On a speed boat into Hells Canyon, keep watch for 7,000-year-old Indian petroglyphs and up vertical cliffs for bighorn sheep and golden eagles. Early American history unfolds in a pioneer village, European history stands sentry in a castle-like chateau, and modern history exposes the vibrant flavors of this world-class wine region.

Days 7-8

Near the mouth of the Columbia, step back in time once again at Fort Clatsop, the Corps of Discovery’s last encampment; visit Astoria Column perched atop Coxcomb Hill—600 feet above sea level; stroll the streets of Victorian Astoria; and explore the river’s nautical history at the Columbia River Maritime Museum. Enjoy Fares are per person double occupancy, in USD. Any stateroom (except Single) may be sold as a single for 175% of double occupancy rate.

IDAHOWHAT IN SAM HILL? As it turns out, “what” was a man with a vision. It was nearing the turn-of-the-century when entrepreneur Sam Hill headed west with an unwitting desire to build roads, public works, a town, and ultimately, a home for his bride. In the years following, Sam’s fortitude yielded success in many endeavors, including a replica of Stonehenge, but his bride refused the mansion—Maryhill—it being too far from the city. As you set sail from Portland, Oregon along the Willamette River with your crew and guest wine expert, your yearn-to-learn about the rivers’ history and partake of Washington and Oregon wines will surely be accomplished.

Vinegar Bar at Cannon Beach. Take in the magic of the seacoast and explore Victorian Astoria. Join your guest wine expert at the week’s grand finale of rivers and wineries—the Captain’s Dinner! Following breakfast, say farewell to friends and crew before disembarking for your included transfer to the Portland airport.

Days 2-6

Along the Columbia, Snake, and Palouse Rivers, oenophiles, winemakers, owners, historians, and naturalists join you on board and ashore. Cruise spectacular Columbia Gorge; see towering falls; visit historic Whitman Mission; and uncover the legend of Big Beaver exploring the Palouse Canyon by skiff. Your lineup of wineries features tours and tastings at Hood River’s rustic Springhouse Cellars; and in the Gorge, stunning Maryhill Winery and unexpected AniChe Cellars. In Walla Walla—named one of the top ten wine regions in the world—swirl a glass at award-winning Bergevin Lane; there’s art and a pour at Dunham Cellars; and enjoy a lunch soiree. Taste the pride of the Red Mountain AVA at Terra Blanca; and The Dalles’ Sunshine Mill Winery offers a taste of inspiration. Hanford Interpretive Center uncovers the area’s natural, scientific, and cultural history. And see an eclectic art collection at the Maryhill Museum. Throughout the week, there’ll be sumptuous cuisine, superb tastings, and engaging interaction.

Sail through an intricate network of islands (many uninhabited), inlets, and passages, sure to stir any modern-day explorer. Unleashing your inner explorer, you’ll find unhurried time watching for whales, orcas, seals, sea lions, eagles, and sea birds. The Salish Sea—a name officially approved by the Canadian and United States governments in 2009—stretches from the coastal waters of Washington’s Puget Sound in the south, through the San Juan Islands, past British Columbia’s Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island, and to the Strait of Georgia in the north. Charted by Captain George Vancouver in the 1790s, this vast archipelago has been an important trade route to the indigenous peoples of the region for thousands of years.

You have two adventure cruises to choose from. Surrounded by old-growth and temperate rainforest, explore the shores, islands, and winding channels of Washington State—wilderness hikes on Mt. Constitution and in the Olympic National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Snorkel, kayak, paddle board, and skiff in glacial fjords and the San Juan archipelago, and visit with locals. Or, opt for an inclusive boutique exploration and sail into a yachters’ paradise on both sides of the border—take in nature’s wonders by kayak, skiff, or on foot, witness British Columbia’s stunning Princess Louisa Inlet, British-influenced Victoria, enjoy High Tea in a garden, and discover the San Juan Islands and a charming seaside town. With either, you’ll experience first-hand Mother Nature’s role in creating some of the most dramatic scenery along coastal Washington and British Columbia.

Later, take in High Tea at famed Butchart Gardens and leisurely stroll its 52 acres of botanical wonder. Interior spaces are intended to complement the wilderness outside and provide an inviting, relaxing, and friendly atmosphere. Each vessel is equipped with a snazzy kayak launch system or swim step to handily facilitate water activities. Cabins are cozy aboard the expedition vessels and roomier aboard the yachts, some even offering French balconies and Jacuzzis.

Replica Coastal SteamerTraveling along shore on our inclusive heritage river cruises, you’ll be carried to a period of peace and prosperity. Our replica turn-of-the-century coastal steamer sweeps you to another era with its period décor, elegant cuisine, entertaining reenactments, river cruising, and shore excursions with all the amenities and conveniences of today.

Traveling by small vessels enables us to get up close to nature and wildlife in some of the most scenic areas of the world. While delivering exceptional access to these areas, we realize our presence has an impact. We look for ways to lessen our footprint on the environment. From replacing engines for more efficient models to making arrangements in each port for recycling and proper disposal of waste. Our teams on board and ashore work together to operate responsibly.

A key part of operating a responsible business is ensuring we leave a positive impact in the communities we visit. This core value is part of our initial itinerary planning on through to operations management and office practices. Whether it’s a cruise donation to an organization for a fundraising effort or partnering with locals for tours, we look for ways to share the wealth and enrich the lives of those we meet.

Responsible Actions:

u Purchase local food and suppliesu Partner with local people for cultural tours / presentationsu Follow “Leave No Trace” practicesu Purchase supplies with less packaging to reduce wasteu Recycleu Testing new systems to reduce engine emission / increase fuel efficiencyu Eco-friendly bath amenities on board in refillable containersu Reusable water bottles in each cabin for guest use; no bottled water on boardu Donate to local organizations in areas where we operate
