Travel to Gnadenhutten (just a little further to the east)Ohio’s oldest existing settlement, prospered until the out-break of the Revolutionary War when the Indians were driv-en from their homes. In February 1782, they were allowedto return to their village. On March 8, 1782, following anight of hymn singing and prayer, 90 men, women and chil-dren were massacred and all of the cabins were set on fireby the Pennsylvania Militia. New Philadelphia

New Philadelphia is not only the county seat, but the homeof Ohio’s first village, Schoenbrunn. Founded in 1772 as aMoravian mission, the village is reconstructed to appear as itdid over 200 years ago. Crops, the tending of livestock, hunt-ing and craftwork in addition to schoolwork and religiousteachings made up a day in the life of a Schoenbrunn residentor visitor. Founder David Zeisberger’s grave may also be visit-ed nearby in Goshen on State Route 416. Goshen was a mis-sion village founded after Schoenbrunn. Today, atSchoenbrunn, 17 reconstructed log cabins, the original ceme-tery, and 2 acres of planted fields are available to tour.

A trip to the community would not be complete without anight time visit to “Trumpet in the Land”. Written by Pulitzerprize-winning playwright Paul Green, "Trumpet in the Land"is an unforgettable experience that brings to life the Ohiofrontier during the Revolutionary War. Performed in the samehills from which this story is born, Trumpet is a thrilling andpassionate story of a peaceful people's influence on the warand the tragic events that encircled the founding of Ohio'sfirst settlement, Schoenbrunn.

Tuscora Park is an excit-ing family outing or just aday of relaxation and hasearned a state-wide repu-tation as an affordableplace to come for familyfun and entertainment. The park includes threepools, year-round picnicpavilion and outdoor shel-ters, vintage amusementrides, miniature golf, and much more, surrounded by ourbeautiful green hillsides and shade trees.

DoverDover, Ohio has some of the most fascinating (and unusual)

museums in the entire county and claims six different muse-ums as their home.

Truly a one-of-a-kind place, the Warther Museum andGardens offers incredible carvings done by the World’s MasterCarver, Ernest “Mooney” Warther, Button House of 73,000 but-tons, 5,000 point arrowhead collection, a working knife shop, and a gift shop featuring the exclusive Warther’s cutlery. ErnestWarther carved steam engines made of ebony and ivory that areconsidered the World’s finest, including an eight-foot carving ofthe Lincoln Funeral Train – the largest ivory carving in theworld with over 11,000 pieces carved out of solid ivory.

Just around the corner is John’s Vacuum Cleaner andSweeper Museum, with the history of the vacuum cleanerbeginning before electricity was invented.

The Auman Television and Radio Museum lets you enjoy thesights and sounds of years gone by as you experience two of ourgreatest pastimes, radio and television, from their beginnings. The museum has on display mechanical televisions from the1920’s and 30’s, a 1939 RCA TV from the New York World’sFair, Marconi’s first TV from 1938, the first color TV (1954)and many, many more. Visitors can view numerous games, toysand comic books relating to the very early shows of the 1940’sand 50’s, along with props from movies and TV shows.

American Gas Pump Heaven Ohio offers much more thangasoline pumps – it’s a treasure trove of Americana and auto-mobilia! This museum displays over 50 vintage gas pumps(1907 to 1962), tons of classic 20th century road signs and anawesome working nickelodeon.

Return to an opulent time byvisiting the J. E. ReevesVictorian Home and its adjoin-ing Carriage House Museum. The mansion, and former resi-dence of prominent Doverindustrialist, Jeremiah E.Reeves, is a 17 room Victorianhome, topped by a third floor ballroom, and has been careful-ly restored by the Historical Society to its original turn-of-the-century. The beautiful family furnishings can be viewed asguests take a guided room by room tour of the home.

One last stop in Dover will bring you to the Toland-HerzigFamous Endings Museum… a place that started back in 1996when John Herzig's hobby was collecting autographs. John hadrequested the autographed photo of legendary boxer Joe Louisand received a package containing MORE than just the photo-graph – it contained the program from the fighter's 1981 funeralceremony. That event sparked John's interest in famous funerals, and began his collection, currently numbering some 1,500pieces… considered the largest known collection of its kind!
