Franchione led the Bobcats to a 7-5 record last season despite putting in new offensive and defensive systems. He converted Texas State’s offense to anup-tempoattackthatresultedinRobertLowebecomingtheschool’sfirst1,000-yardrusherinfiveseasons,TylerJonesdevelopingintothemostaccurate passer in school history and Texas State ranking among the top four most improved offenses in the nation.

He also added a new defensive coordinator to his staff and Texas State produced a Fourth-Team All-American linebacker andSunBeltConferenceDefensivePlayeroftheYearandapair of NFL Draft picks. Franchione entered the 2015 campaign looking to build on last

season’s success by leading the Bobcats to their second-straight winning season, a feat that Texas State has accomplished just one

other time since he led the school to back to back winning seasons in 1990 and 1991.

He returned to Texas State in 2011 and began the process of leading the Bobcats in their transition to the NCAA Divi-sionIFootballBowlSubdivision(FBS).Duringhisfirstfourseasons,heledtheBobcatsto23winsandatleastsixwinsinthreeseasonsduringthatspan.FranchioneisoneofjustthreeactiveNCAADivisionIFBScoachesandoneofjust18FBScoaches all-time to record 212 career victories.

He began his head-coaching career at Southwestern College in 1981, and compiled a 14-4-2 record in two seasons. The Buildersalsowonaconferencechampionshipandhadavictoryinthe1982SunflowerBowl.Followingtherecord-settingseason, Franchione was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee Tech for two seasons before being named head coach at his alma mater, Pittsburg State.

Duringthenextfiveseasons,heledtheGorillastoa53-6recordandfiveconferencetitleswithacombined37-1confer-ence record before being named head coach at Texas State in 1990. He led the Bobcats to a combined 13-9 record in the next twoyearsastheBobcatspostedback-to-backwinningrecordsforthefirsttimeintheDivisionIFCSranks.

MEDIA POLICIES FOR BOBCAT FOOTBALLWEEKLY PRESS LUNCHEON

Head coach Dennis Franchione and selected Bobcat players meet with the media at Texas State’s weekly media luncheon each Tuesday preceding a game in the J. Garland Warren Room on the second level of Bobcat Stadium’s End Zone Complex. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. and followed by interviews.

ADDITIONAL INTERVIEWSInadditiontoTuesday’smedialuncheon,TexasStatestudent-athletesand

coach Franchione will be available for in-person or phone interviews after practice on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Requests should be directed to Rick Poulter.

All interview requests must be coordinated through the Texas State Sports InformationOfficewith, hopefully, a 24-hour advance notice. Student-athlete’sphone numbers will not be given out. Coaches and student-athletes are not avail-able for interviews the day before a game or on game day.

POSTGAME INTERVIEWSThe Texas State locker room is located inside the End Zone Complex at

Bobcat Stadium. The visiting locker room is located in the North Side Complex. Texas State head coach and requested players are available in the team meeting room approximately 10 minutes after each game. Texas State’s locker room is closed following each game and practice.

Texas State University is committed to a policy of equal access for both male and female reporters and photographers.

Visiting SID’s will establishmedia interview and locker room admittancepolicies for their respective teams.

Linda Gregg Fields West Side Complex at Bobcat Stadium, opens three hours prior to each game. The working press box, coaches’ booths and radio/TV booths are located on the same level. Media credentials are required for admittance to the press box and for meals.

Game notes and programs are provided prior to the game. Game statistics and quotes are provided during and after the game. The working press area has complimentarywirelessinternetaccessavailable.Ongameday,TexasStatetele-communications representatives are on hand to assist media members.

SIDELINESTexas State follows guidelines set forth by the NCAA Public Relations Com-

mittee, the NCAA Football Rules Committee, the American Football Coaches As-sociation and the National Press Photographers Association.

Photographers are not permitted to shoot between the 25-yard lines and musthavecredentialsvisibleatalltimes.Inanefforttoensurethebestpossibleworking conditions for media photographers, uniformed security personnel will be patrolling the sidelines. Anyone holding a media pass who is not actively involved in coverage of the game will be escorted from the sideline. Similar procedures will be in effect in the press box.

Texas State’s football games are broadcast live on The Zone (1300 AM) in Austin, KTSW (89.9 FM) in San Marcos and KLUP (930 AM) in San Antonio.

Brant Freeman and Bill Culhane call the ac-tion for each Bobcat Football game. Ben Campos (home games) and John McElfresh (away games) serve as sideline reporters. Each broadcast starts with a one-hour pregame show and is followed by a 15-minute postgame show.

LOWE/KABA NAMED SUN BELT STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

The Sun Belt Conference named Robert Lowe and Lumi Kaba the SBC Offensive and SpecialTeams Student-Athletes of the Week following the Bobcats’ 36-18 victory over South Alabama.

Lowe rushed for a career-best 248 yards and scored three touchdowns on 30 carries against the Jag-uars. It ishisfirst200-yardrushinggamethisseasonand second of his career. His 248 yards are the second-highest single game rushing total by a Sun Belt Con-ference player this season and are the seventh highest rushing performance in Texas State history.

Kaba averaged 47.7 yards on seven punts, 65.0 yardsonsixkickoffsandscoredfivepointsonafieldgoal and two extra-point attempts against South Ala-bama. Kaba had a season-long 69-yard punt , a 59-yard puntandplacedfiveinsidethe20-yardline.His69-yardpunt was the longest by a Sun Belt player this season. Three of his punts were downed inside the 10-yard line, including two on the one-yard line. Kaba had four of his six kickoffs result in a touchback. He also kicked a 36-yardfieldgoalandmadebothofhistwoextra-pointattempts.

BOBCATS TRAVELS TO GEORGIA SOUTHERN Texas State will be looking to win its second game

in six days when it travels to Georgia Southern for the firsttimeinschoolhistory.ThegameistelevisedonES-PNU this Thursday night beginning at 7:30 (EST).

The Bobcats enter the game with a 2-4 overall record and are 1-1 in Sun Belt Conference games fol-lowinga36-18victoryoverSouthAlabama in itsfirstSun Belt home game last Saturday night. The victory followed Texas State dropping three straight decisions at UL Lafayette, Houston and against Southern Miss; winningitshomeopeneragainstPrairieViewA&Mandfalling at No. 10 Florida State in the season opener.

TEXAS STATE IN THURSDAY NIGHT GAMES The Bobcats enter the Georgia Southern game

with a 1-0 record in Thursday night games televised on ESPNU after beating Arkansas State 45-27 last season.

TWO GAMES IN SIX DAYS This marks the second straight year that Texas

State plays two Sun Belt games in a six day span. Last year, they split their two games when they lost at South Alabama 24-20 in a game that came down to the last play before returning home to beat Arkansas State 45-27 on ESPNU.

TEXAS STATE IN ROAD GAMESTexasStatewillbelookingforthisseason’sfirst

road win at Georgia Southern after falling to 0-3 in road games at UL Lafayette, Houston and No. 10 Florida State.

The Bobcats won three of their four Sun Belt Con-ference road games in 2014 with the lone loss coming at South Alabama in a game that wasn’t decided until theBobcatshadan incompletepass in theendzoneon the last play.

Itmarked the third timeTexasStatewon threeconference road games in the last 31 years.

ranked 33rd nationally and second in the Sun Belt Con-ference with an average of 452.7 yards of total offense this season.

The Bobcats accumulated 468 yards of total of-fense against South Alabama to mark the fourth time they have generated over 400 yards of offense. Texas State also gained 401 yards at Houston, 591 yards against Southern Miss and 649 yards versus Prairie ViewA&M.

ALEXCEE LEADS BOBCATS IN TACKLESSophomore Damani Alexcee leads Texas State

with46tacklesthroughthefirstsixgamesafter lead-ing the Bobcats with 10 stops against South Alabama. A marketing major at Texas State, Alexcee has led the Bobcats in tackles during each of the last three games after recording a career-best of 12 tackles at UL Lafay-ette and making seven stops at Houston. He also had seven tackles against Southern Miss and six at Florida State.

Alexcee has 34 solo tackles and that ties him for third place among Sun Belt Conference leaders after he made nine solo stops against South Alabama.

MCGOWAN IN DOUBLE DIGITS Senior linebacker Trey McGowan just missed

corded 21 tackles after joining the starting lineup in the last three games. TEXAS STATE’S FOOTBALL TRADITION

• Texas State enters the 2015 season having won two national championships and 14 conference championships. The Bobcats were the 1981 and 1982 NCAADivisionIInationalchampionsunderthelateJimWacker.Wackerposteda 42-8 record as Texas State’s head coach from 1979-82 and was named the 1982CollegeDivisionCoachoftheYearbytheAFCAafterleadingtheBobcatsto a 14-0 record from 1998-01. He passed away on Aug. 26, 2003 after battling cancer.

• Texas State is a member of the Sun Belt Conference for the third straight sea-son in 2015. The Sun Belt is the sixth athletic conference in which the Bobcats havebeenmembers.TexasStatewasamemberoftheTexasIntercollegiateAthletic Association in the 1920s, the Lone Star Conference from 1931-83, the Gulf Star Conference in 1984-86, the Southland Conference in 1987-2010, the WACin2012andSunBeltConferenceforthefirsttimein2013.

• Three members of Texas State’s current football staff previously coached at the school before returning in 2011. Dennis Franchione also was head coach for the Bobcats in 1990-91. Assistant head coach/co-offensive coordinator and quarterbackscoachMikeSchultzwasthesecondarycoachandrecruitingcoor-dinator under Franchione in 1990-91. Defensive line coach Mike Hudson was a student and graduate assistant from 1987-89, linebackers coach from 1995-00 and defensive coordinator in 2001-02.

• Dennis Franchione and his son, Brad, who serves as Texas State’s special teams coordinator and linebackers coach, have the distinction of being the only father and son head coaching combination to produce the top two picks in an NFL Draft when Cam Newton and Von Miller were the top two selections in the2011NFLDraft.FranchionecoachedMilleratTexasA&Mwhilehisson,Brad, coached Newton at Blinn College in 2009 before Newton went on to lead Auburn to the 2010 BCS national championship.

•TexasState has five players listed onNFL rosters.They include three-yearveterans Joplo Bartu of the Atlanta Falcons and Darryl Morris of the Houston Texans.Second-yearplayerTyNsekheisinhisfirstyearwiththeWashingtonRedskinsafterplayingwiththeSt.LouisRamsin2012.Inaddition,CraigMageris with the San Diego Chargers and David Mayo is with the Carolina Panthers. • There have been 87 football players earn a bachelor’s degree at Texas State since Dennis Franchione was named head coach in January 2011, and 83 of the graduates played for Coach Fran.
