lead Texas State to its second-straight winning season in the FBS ranks in 2015afterbecomingthefirstcoachinthelast32yearstoleadtheBobcatsto three non-losing seasons in the last four years.

Franchione led the Bobcats to a 7-5 record last season despite putting in new offensive and defensive systems. He converted Texas State’s offense to anup-tempoattackthatresultedinRobertLowebecomingtheschool’sfirst1,000-yardrusherinfiveseasons,TylerJonesdevelopingintothemostaccurate passer in school history and Texas State ranking among the top four most improved offenses in the nation.

He also added a new defensive coordinator to his staff and Texas State produced a Fourth-Team All-American linebacker andSunBeltConferenceDefensivePlayeroftheYearandapair of NFL Draft picks. Franchione entered the 2015 campaign looking to build on last

season’s success by leading the Bobcats to their second-straight winning season, a feat that Texas State has accomplished just one

other time since he led the school to back to back winning seasons in 1990 and 1991.

He returned to Texas State in 2011 and began the process of leading the Bobcats in their transition to the NCAA Divi-sionIFootballBowlSubdivision(FBS).Duringhisfirstfourseasons,heledtheBobcatsto23winsandatleastsixwinsinthreeseasonsduringthatspan.FranchioneisoneofjustthreeactiveNCAADivisionIFBScoachesandoneofjust18FBScoaches all-time to record 212 career victories.

He began his head-coaching career at Southwestern College in 1981, and compiled a 14-4-2 record in two seasons. The Buildersalsowonaconferencechampionshipandhadavictoryinthe1982SunflowerBowl.Followingtherecord-settingseason, Franchione was the offensive coordinator at Tennessee Tech for two seasons before being named head coach at his alma mater, Pittsburg State.

Duringthenextfiveseasons,heledtheGorillastoa53-6recordandfiveconferencetitleswithacombined37-1confer-ence record before being named head coach at Texas State in 1990. He led the Bobcats to a combined 13-9 record in the next twoyearsastheBobcatspostedback-to-backwinningrecordsforthefirsttimeintheDivisionIFCSranks.

Head coach Dennis Franchione and selected Bobcat players meet with the media at Texas State’s weekly media luncheon each Tuesday preceding a game in the J. Garland Warren Room on the second level of Bobcat Stadium’s End Zone Complex. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. and followed by interviews.

Bobcat Stadium. The visiting locker room is located in the North Side Complex. Texas State head coach and requested players are available in the team meeting room approximately 10 minutes after each game. Texas State’s locker room is closed following each game and practice.

Game notes and programs are provided prior to the game. Game statistics and quotes are provided during and after the game. The working press area has complimentarywirelessinternetaccessavailable.Ongameday,TexasStatetele-communications representatives are on hand to assist media members.

SIDELINESTexas State follows guidelines set forth by the NCAA Public Relations Com-

mittee, the NCAA Football Rules Committee, the American Football Coaches As-sociation and the National Press Photographers Association.

Photographers are not permitted to shoot between the 25-yard lines and musthavecredentialsvisibleatalltimes.Inanefforttoensurethebestpossibleworking conditions for media photographers, uniformed security personnel will be patrolling the sidelines. Texas State’s football games are broadcast live on The Zone (1300 AM) in Austin, KTSW (89.9 FM) in San Marcos and KLUP (930 AM) in San Antonio.

LOWE/KABA NAMED SUN BELT STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

The Sun Belt Conference named Robert Lowe and Lumi Kaba the SBC Offensive and SpecialTeams Student-Athletes of the Week following the Bobcats’ 36-18 victory over South Alabama.

Lowe rushed for a career-best 248 yards and scored three touchdowns on 30 carries against the Jag-uars. It ishisfirst200-yardrushinggamethisseasonand second of his career. His 248 yards are the second-highest single game rushing total by a Sun Belt Con-ference player this season and are the seventh highest rushing performance in Texas State history.

Kaba averaged 47.7 yards on seven punts, 65.0 yardsonsixkickoffsandscoredfivepointsonafieldgoal and two extra-point attempts against South Ala-bama. Kaba had a season-long 69-yard punt , a 59-yard puntandplacedfiveinsidethe20-yardline.His69-yardpunt was the longest by a Sun Belt player this season. Three of his punts were downed inside the 10-yard line, including two on the one-yard line. Kaba had four of his six kickoffs result in a touchback. He also kicked a 36-yardfieldgoalandmadebothofhistwoextra-pointattempts.

BOBCATS TRAVELS TO GEORGIA SOUTHERN Texas State will be looking to win its second game

TEXAS STATE IN THURSDAY NIGHT GAMES The Bobcats enter the Georgia Southern game

with a 1-0 record in Thursday night games televised on ESPNU after beating Arkansas State 45-27 last season.

TWO GAMES IN SIX DAYS This marks the second straight year that Texas

State plays two Sun Belt games in a six day span. Last year, they split their two games when they lost at South Alabama 24-20 in a game that came down to the last play before returning home to beat Arkansas State 45-27 on ESPNU.

Last season, the Bobcats had a 3-1 record in Sun Belt games in their second season in the league aftersplittinghomegameswithIdahoandULLafayettebefore winning road games at UL Monroe and New Mexico State.

TOUGH SLEDDING When the Bobcats play at Georgia Southern, it

willmark thefifth time in the lastsixgames theirop-ponent will enter the game with a .500 or better record.

After opening the season at No. 10 Florida State, the only team the only opposing team with a losing record is UL Lafayette. Texas State’s 2015 opponents have a combined record of 31-16, including its four non-conference opponents, which enter this week with a combined record of 22-6.

108 SEASONS OF BOBCAT FOOTBALLTexas State is in its 108th season in 2015 and en-

ters the Georgia Southern game with an all-time record of 505-425-26 since 1919.

The Bobcats began playing football in 1904 when they posted a 5-1 record. Texas State did not play foot-ball in 1942, 1945 and 1946. The Bobcats have won 13 conference championships during their history.

THIRD YEAR IN SUN BELT This is the third season the Bobcats are members

of theSunBeltConferenceandmarks the first timesince 2010 that they playing three straight seasons in thesameconference.TexasStateplayeditsfinalsea-son in the Southland Conference in 2010 before playing the 2011 campaign as an independent. The Bobcats played in the WAC during 2012 before joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.

THIRD IN TOTAL OFFENSETexas State enters the Georgia Southern game

ranked 33rd nationally and second in the Sun Belt Con-ference with an average of 452.7 yards of total offense this season.

The Bobcats accumulated 468 yards of total of-fense against South Alabama to mark the fourth time they have generated over 400 yards of offense. Texas State also gained 401 yards at Houston, 591 yards against Southern Miss and 649 yards versus Prairie ViewA&M.

THIRD IN SCORING OFFENSEThe Bobcats rank third among Sun Belt Confer-

ence teams and 39th nationally in scoring offense with an average of 34.3 points per game. In addition toscoring 36 points against South Alabama, Texas State netted a season-best 63 points against Prairie View A&Mandtallied50pointsversusSouthernMiss.TexasState scored 27 points at UL Lafayette, 16 points at No. 10-ranked Florida State and 14 points at Houston.

BALANCED OFFENSETexas State is the only Sun Belt Conference team

to rank among the top four overall leaders in rushing and passing offenses.

The Bobcats enter the Georgia Southern game ranked fourth in the Sun Belt Conference and 19th nationally in rushing offense with 220 yards rushing per game after running for 319 yards and four touchdowns against South Alabama.

Texas State also ranks fourth among Sun Belt passing offenses with 232.7 yards per game through thefirstsixgames.

ON THE OFFENSIVE FRONTIn addition to paving theway forTexasState’s

220.0 yards rushing per game, the offensive line has accumulated 119 knockdown blocks this season. The Bobcats also rank fourth among Sun Belt teams with just 12 sacks surrendered.

Senior offensive tackle Adrian Bellard is on the watchlistfortheOutlandandRotaryLombardiAwards.Bellard has recorded 20.5 knockdowns and has not sur-rendered a sack this season.

Felix Romero leads the Bobcats with 27 knock-down blocks, while Ryan Melton is second among team leaders with 24.5 knockdowns. Brandon Sarabia has recorded 19 this season, while Zach Crawford has 10.5 knockdowns and Giuliano Cattaneo has 9.5.

Texas State surrendered just one sack at UL Lafayette after giving up four sacks at Houston, three against Southern Miss and just one sack at Florida State.

Tyler Jones enters the Georgia Southern game as the only Sun Belt Conference player ranked among the top 10 conference rushing and passing leaders this season. Jones has rushed for 418 yards and six touch-downs on 69 carries the season to rank 10th among Sun Belt rushing leaders. He ranks sixth among Texas State’s career rush-ing leaders with 2650 yards on 445 carries during his career. He moved past former NFL players Ricky Sand-ers and Reggie Rivers on the career rushing yards list with his 248 yards against South Alabama.

He also threw for 66 yards and a four-yard TD pass to Chris French while completing 10 of his 17 passes at Florida State.

ALEXCEE LEADS BOBCATS IN TACKLESSophomore Damani Alexcee leads Texas State

with46tacklesthroughthefirstsixgamesafter lead-ing the Bobcats with 10 stops against South Alabama. A marketing major at Texas State, Alexcee has led the Bobcats in tackles during each of the last three games after recording a career-best of 12 tackles at UL Lafay-ette and making seven stops at Houston. He also had seven tackles against Southern Miss and six at Florida State.

Alexcee has 34 solo tackles and that ties him for third place among Sun Belt Conference leaders after he made nine solo stops against South Alabama.

MCGOWAN IN DOUBLE DIGITS Senior linebacker Trey McGowan just missed

recording double digit tackles for the second time this season when he logged nine stops against South Ala-bama.HebecamethefirstTexasStateplayertorecordat least 10 tackles in a game when he made 11 stops against Southern Miss. McGowan, an economics major at Texas State, is second among team leaders with 33

SHAW SHINES IN LAST TWO STARTSSenior Aaron Shaw has recorded 19 tackles in his

firsttwostartsoftheseasonagainstSouthAlabamaandUL Lafayette. A psychology major, Shaw had nine stops against the Jaguars and a career-best of 10 tackles against the Ragin’ Cajuns. He has a total of 26 tackles this season. Shaw made seven starts and recorded 44 tackles last season.

JETER-GILMON RECORDS NINE STOPSSenior linebacker Jerrid Jeter-Gilmon has re-

corded 21 tackles after joining the starting lineup in the last three games. Jeter-Gilmon had seven tackles ver-sus South Alabama, a career-best of nine stops at UL LafayetteandfivetacklesatHouston.Healsohadfivestops against Southern Miss and ranks fourth among team leaders with a total of 26 tackles this season.

MCDOWELL ON THE CORNER

Sophomore Brandon McDowell returned to the starting lineup and recorded three tackles and broke up a pass against South Alabama. He is tied with Da-vid Mims with three pass breakups this season and has made 20 tackles.

SMITH THIRD IN KICK RETURNSSenior wide receiver Brandon Smith enters the

South Alabama game ranked third among Sun Belt Conference leaders with a 24.5 average after returning 19 kickoffs for 466 yards and scoring one TD on a 95-yard return at UL Lafayette. He had four returns for 158 yards at UL Lafayette.

TEXAS STATE’S FOOTBALL TRADITION

• Texas State enters the 2015 season having won two national championships and 14 conference championships. The Bobcats were the 1981 and 1982 NCAADivisionIInationalchampionsunderthelateJimWacker.Wackerposteda 42-8 record as Texas State’s head coach from 1979-82 and was named the 1982CollegeDivisionCoachoftheYearbytheAFCAafterleadingtheBobcatsto a 14-0 record from 1998-01. He passed away on Aug. 26, 2003 after battling cancer.

• Texas State is a member of the Sun Belt Conference for the third straight sea-son in 2015. The Sun Belt is the sixth athletic conference in which the Bobcats havebeenmembers.TexasStatewasamemberoftheTexasIntercollegiateAthletic Association in the 1920s, the Lone Star Conference from 1931-83, the Gulf Star Conference in 1984-86, the Southland Conference in 1987-2010, the WACin2012andSunBeltConferenceforthefirsttimein2013.

• Three members of Texas State’s current football staff previously coached at the school before returning in 2011. Dennis Franchione also was head coach for the Bobcats in 1990-91. Assistant head coach/co-offensive coordinator and quarterbackscoachMikeSchultzwasthesecondarycoachandrecruitingcoor-dinator under Franchione in 1990-91. Defensive line coach Mike Hudson was a student and graduate assistant from 1987-89, linebackers coach from 1995-00 and defensive coordinator in 2001-02.

• Dennis Franchione and his son, Brad, who serves as Texas State’s special teams coordinator and linebackers coach, have the distinction of being the only father and son head coaching combination to produce the top two picks in an NFL Draft when Cam Newton and Von Miller were the top two selections in the2011NFLDraft.FranchionecoachedMilleratTexasA&Mwhilehisson,Brad, coached Newton at Blinn College in 2009 before Newton went on to lead Auburn to the 2010 BCS national championship.

•TexasState has five players listed onNFL rosters.They include three-yearveterans Joplo Bartu of the Atlanta Falcons and Darryl Morris of the Houston Texans.Second-yearplayerTyNsekheisinhisfirstyearwiththeWashingtonRedskinsafterplayingwiththeSt.LouisRamsin2012.Inaddition,CraigMageris with the San Diego Chargers and David Mayo is with the Carolina Panthers. • There have been 87 football players earn a bachelor’s degree at Texas State since Dennis Franchione was named head coach in January 2011, and 83 of the graduates played for Coach Fran.
