“TED is a think tank for humanity. It is a gathering of exceptional individuals, all with the ability to make a difference” — Don Levy, then-Senior Vice President, Sony Pictures (TED Partner)

This is a place where ideas by all members of all levels of our com-munity are respected equally. Each of our guests, as speakers or at-tendees, believes in the spirit of TED and its ability to drive positive change in all aspects of our lives.
TED is a non-profit devoted to
spreading ideas, usually in the
form of short, powerful talks (18
minutes or less). TED began in
1984 as conference where Tech-
nology, Entertainment and De-
sign converged, and today covers
almost all topics - from science
to business to global issues - in
more than 100 languages. TED is
dedicated to making great ideas
accessible and uses their platform
to spark conversation.
At TEDxQueensU, we believe pas-
sionately in the power of ideas to
change attitudes, lives and, ulti-
mately, the world. We’re building
a clearinghouse of free knowledge
from inspired thinkers — and a
community of curious souls to
engage with each other and share
ideas, both online and at our an-
nual evvent. We bring together
Queen’s alumni, students, small
business owners, researchers, ex-
ecutives, and many more.
About TedxQueensu

TEDxQueensU’s vibrant speaker port-
folio has drawn together thousands of
individuals in the Queen’s and Kings-
ton community since our inception
in 2010. The unique perspectives and
passionate performances they bring
resonate with attendees and viewers
from around the world.
Last year was a resounding success
and with the addition of a live stream,
we were able to increase our audience
exponentially. Our talks touched upon
issues that ranged from innovation in
education to resiliency in entrepre-
neurship.
Previous notable speakers include: Eric Windeler - Founder & Executive Director of Jack.org,
Leslee Thompson - President & CEO Kingston General Hospital, Zane Caplansky – Entrepreneur and Owner of Caplansky’s Delicatessen
7introducing our theme...
Our themes are designed to be inter-
preted differently by each speaker,
which creates a richer experience for
our audience.
We are excited by and privileged to be
graced by forward thinkers originating
from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Year after year we as an organizing
team have been inspired by the conver-
sations generated and collaboration
that has resulted following our events.
This year’s theme, Piecing Together, ex-
emplifies in our eyes the spirit that we
have striven to establish at our events.
Having intellectual giants congregating
with naturally curious and eager young
minds to discuss new ideas, perspec-
tives and innovations creates a unique
and pioneering setting that we antici-
pate will spark novel viewpoints in all
attendees.
With our new theme, TEDxQueensU 2015 hopes to foster ideas that act as springboards for the next wave of dis-ruptive ideas, innovations and collab-oration. Everyone has something dis-tinctive to bring to the event, and it is our hope that together we will be able to bounce ideas off of each other and all walk away with a broader, better rounded view of various disciplines, including our own.

the bader centre

This upcoming year, TEDxQueensU will have a brand new home.
Sitting on beautiful, white-capped Lake Ontario, The Isabel Bader Center for the Performing Arts
is the new pride point of Queen’s University. Offering a captivating sense of place, The Isabel
provides a unique and dynamic venue for students and community members to learn, discover,
think, do, and experience, together.
Talks at TEDxQueensU 2015 will be presented in the heart of The Isabel: the 566-seat perfor-
mance hall. Having its acoustics perfected by the New York-based firm Arup well before its con-
struction began; the pristine acoustics of the Isabel’s performance hall are the result of excep-
tional collaboration between top sound engineers and architects over several years.
In addition to the noteworthy acoustics, talk quality will be further enhanced by the unique char-
acteristics of the hall. Virtually a building within a building, no part of the hall touches the rest of
the structure directly. This feature along with the hall’s two-foot-thick walls so effectively muffles
outside noise that we are certain nothing will detract from the captivating talks and enchanting
setting created within.
This state of the art theater will make TEDxQueensU one of the largest and more preeminent
TEDx events in the country.
We at TEDxQueensU are ecstatic about the having this world class facility with remarkable
acoustics available to us and hope that you’ll join us in this excitement.
“the isabel will become a consummate storytelling space – stories that reveal the human condition for what it is: complex, often confusing, and ever beautiful” – Jerry Doiron

what we’re doing this year
We’re striving to make TEDxQueensU
2015 our best event yet.
Our focus this year is growth as a TEDx
event, which we plan to facilitate through
avenues such as novel remarketing ef-
forts, upgraded production value and an
expanded and more integrated commu-
nity outreach initiative.
As a team, we’ve found that our relation-
ships with speakers, alumni, students,
small businesses and charities have
played a large part in defining our events
each year. Building upon and establish-
ing new partnerships is a key element of
TEDxQueensU 2015, and we would like to
thank you for your consideration.
By speaking at TEDxQueensU 2015, your
ideas, stories and perspectives will have
far reaching and long lasting influence.
