KU Pharmacy Advisory Council

To provide advice and counsel to the Dean on strategic directions for the School based on a knowledge of the State and/or the National trends in the profession.

To be an advocate for the School and its aims at the State and/or the National levels.

To provide advice and counsel to the Dean on development of the School (i.e., specifically with respect to, for example, fund-raising and identifying resources to support the School’s mission).

Some of the many 2014-2015 Highlights

• Exceeded Far Above fund-raising campaign goals and are continuing to add to the campaign.

• Barn Party topped $12,000 in net donations for the 2014 Lymphoma & Leukemia Holiday Party for children and family members.

• Ten new faculty hires; some notable retirements. • Kansas Vaccine Institute (KVI) started.• Faculty approved significant Pharm.D. curricular

changes.• Inter-professional education events completed and to be

continued with medicine, nursing, physical therapy, etc. on both Kansas City and Wichita campuses.

• First graduates from the Wichita campus, Class of 2015.

Some of the Faculty Awards and Honors

• Pharmacy Practice Chair Dave Henry received the 2015 Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association Award of Excellence.

• Clinical Associate Professor Sarah Shrader was appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Interprofessional Education and Practice and named a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (FCCP).

Associate Professor Rafia Rasu was appointed to the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy (JMCP), official journal of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.

• Associate Dean Harold Godwin was appointed to the APhA Community Pharmacy Residency Program (CPRP) Task Force to develop the mission and vision for community pharmacy/ambulatory care residencies for the profession and re-appointed for another 3 years to the Board of Directors of the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS).

• Distinguished Professor Barbara Timmermann was elected Fellow of the American Society of Pharmacognosy (recognized by election), July 2014.

• and eliminating many of the side effects of cancer treatment.

• Professor Jennifer Laurence was featured on KCPT’s special “Cancer in KC” were she talked about her discovery of a three-amino acid that could lead to more precise targeting of cancer cells, making treatment and diagnosis of cancer more effective

• Distinguished Professor Ron Borchardt selected as a “Giant in the Pharmaceutical Sciences” by the American Pharmacists Association and Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

• Sr. Associate Dean Gene Hotchkiss received a Lifetime Achievement award from the National Community Pharmacists Association.

• Clinical Assistant Professor Larry Davidow was selected as Rho Chi Teacher of the Year and as an American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year.

• Phi Lambda Sigma was named 2014 Chapter of the Year.

• Emily Carlson, Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, won a Graduate Research Competition Award.

• Monica Saha, P2, won the Sally Mason Woman Student in Science Award.

• Kyle McDaniel, P4, was named KCHP Student of the Year at the KCHP Annual Meeting.

• Lauren Edwards, P3, won the 2014 Ruth Pretty Palmer Panhellenic Award for Leadership and was elected to the 2015-2016 Mid-America Province Executive Board for Kappa Psi.

• Jessica Chang, P2, won Best Chapter Presentation at the Spring Mid-America Province.

Some 2015-2016 Challenges

• Expanding inter-professional education and co-curricular activities as required in the 2016 ACPE accreditation standards.

• Faculty recruitment and retention!• Bricks & mortar: Simons addition, development of

Innovation Way and West campus space between Simons and the School of Pharmacy, and evacuating Malott Hall!
