MANUFACTURING

The care for sustainability of Artemide – a Company certified ISO 9001:2008, ISO 17025 and WMT – is ensured both by its French plant Megalit, accredited with ISO 14001 and implementing the Carbon Footprint, and by its focus on product lifecycle (LCA), i.e. design, choice of raw materials, processing to minimize transportation, and down to assembly, packaging, and disposal. The improvement of the light fixture efficiency during use involves energy-saving, reliability and lastingness of the implemented technical solutions with a consequent reduction of CO2 emissions. All Artemide light fixtures comply with European Directives and Standards and bear CE mark.

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)

LCA is a strategic approach used to assess the potential environment impact that a product has during all the stages of its life cycle: selection of raw materials, processing, transport and assembly, packaging, distribution, use phase, disposal and recycling.

LED TECHNOLOGY

With a wide experience in using LEDs for indoor light fixtures, Artemide uses LED technological innovation also for outdoor light fixtures. Economic and environmental advantages deriving from using LEDs are :

• use of non-toxic and non-harmful materials

• reduced size and weight which ensures great savings for transport and logistics

OUTDOOR MATERIALS AND FINISHES

The Outdoor collection design process includes accurate material and technology selection so that fixtures meet all the t echnical, aesthetic and functional requirements. All Artemide products have undergone the following tests:

• Saline fog tests to evaluate corrosion resistance

• UV radiation exposure tests to evaluate their behavior when exposed to sunlight

• IP tests to evaluate the fixture waterproofing

• IK tests to evaluate shock resistance

• Load tests for walk-over and drive-over built-in fixtures.

PAINTING PROCESS

The painting process is very important. The surface treatment of an outdoor lighting fixture exposed to extreme atmospheric agents and diverse weather conditions must ensure a suitable level of protection against the aggressive action of acid rains, saline environments, humidity and UV radiations. With its own internal painting plant, the surface treatment of the Artemide Outdoor range is in full compliance with RoHS RAEE standards and qualitative conditions are constantly observed. The painting plant cycle is provided with a pre-treatment tunnel that includes 6 stages of iron phosphate treatment and a rinse process together with a nanotechnological spray passivation process, consisting in the deposit of diamond structured molecules. This is useful to prepare the fixture for the application of the anti-corrosion epoxy powder primer through an electrostatic application system with dedicated spray cabins. Once the polymerization has been completed through the dry oven, the powder paint finish with a polyester-free base is applied. This application is carried out after the dry oven and reticulation at 190°C (374°F).

IES LM-79-08 CERTIFICATION

LM-79 is an approved method for taking electrical and photometric measurements of SSL products. It covers total flux (light output), electrical power, efficacy, chromaticity, and intensity distribution. The five required metrics on the LED Lighting Facts label come from LM-79 test results.

Why should a manufacturer take the pledge?Taking the pledge to test products and register them for a LED Lighting Facts label establishes a manufacturer as an industry leader in support of high quality products for LED lighting. Accurate and consistent reporting of LED product performance will increase consumer satisfaction and accelerate market adoption.

What is the LED Lighting Facts label?Luminaire manufacturers who take the pledge agree to present the LED Lighting Facts label on product packaging or in product literature. All measurements must use results from product testing in accordance with IESNA standard LM-79-2008, Approved Method for the Electrical and Photometric Testing of Solid-State Lighting Devices. The label reports product performance results in five areas:1. Lumens2. Lumens per watt (lm/W)3. Watts at 120 VAC4. Correlated Color Temperature (CCT)5. Color Rendering Index (CRI)Additional metrics related to reliability, product consistency, construction, and other characteristics may be considered in future editions of the label.
