2015 MDS Annual Meeting
Thursday, March 19, 2015 San Francisco, Marriott Marquis
San Francisco, CA
Dear Members of the MDS:
I’d like to personally welcome each of you to the 2015 Medical Dermatology Society Annual Meeting. It’s an exciting time for the MDS. As we continue to grow, we remain always adaptable, motivated and responsive to medical dermatology. Our organization is faced with a number of challenges which we’re meeting head on during a time of larger nation-wide and global change. The MDS remains committed to sharing knowledge, facilitating collaborative opportunities and supporting the development of inspired dermatologists who will advance the subspecialty.
There has been an increasing interest in the MDS as reflected by the continued increase in abstracts submitted. This year we received a record number of 44 submissions. The Annual Meeting continues to grow in attendance; another record attendance of 248 members joined us last year in Denver. Additional funding for the Annual Meeting was generated this year by selling ads in the Annual Meeting Program Book; and this has generated over $5,300 as of February 14, 2015. So it appears that the MDS is alive and well and shows signs of continued growth.
I trust you will find the program to be comprehensive and relevant. The MDS Education and Program Committee Members have worked extremely hard to ensure a quality program for all MDS members. Personally I want to thank the Program Committee for their efforts in organizing the 2015 educational program. The committee is composed of Carrie Kovarik, MD (Program Co-Chair); Amit Garg, MD (Program Co-Chair); Milan Anadkat, MD; Adela Rambi Cardones, MD; Robert Micheletti, MD; Vinod Nambudiri, MD; Ruth Ann Vleugels, MD, MPH; and David Wetter, MD.
I’d like to give you an idea of what you can expect and what we hope to achieve during today’s Annual Meeting. Edward Cowen, MD and Haley Naik, MD from the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center will feature a discussion on auto-inflammatory diseases of the skin, and Marta Van Beek, MD will explain how value based payment models may affect medical dermatology practice. The content of this activity focuses on current issues that physicians diagnosing or treating patients with complex medical dermatologic problems will encounter during clinical care activities in the outpatient clinic and in the inpatient setting.
Before I close, I’d like to thank each of you for attending the MDS Annual Meeting and bringing your expertise to our gathering. You, as organization leaders, have the vision, the knowledge, the wherewithal and the experience to help pave our way into the future. You are truly our greatest asset today and tomorrow, and we could not accomplish what we do without your support and leadership. Throughout this Annual Meeting, I ask you to stay engaged, keep us proactive and help us shape the future of medical dermatology. My personal respect and thanks goes out to all of you.
If you have any questions regarding the upcoming meeting or other MDS activities, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly or to our administrative office. The MDS office phone number is 216-579-9300 x6 and the e-mail address is [email protected].
I look forward to welcoming you to the 2015 Annual Meeting!
Sincerely,
Janet A. Fairley, MD MDS President
