2015 MAKARA SANKRANTHI/PONGAL CELEBRATIONS Program

Makar Sankranti is the festival of Hindus which comes every year on 14 January. Makar Sankranti is the day when sun moves from Tropic of Capricorn to Northern Hemisphere. On this day people worship Lord Sun & pray for their Children to go higher & higher as the sun moves and darkness is expelled from their life. Makar sankaranti is highly observed by Hindus all over the India; although it is called by various names in different states. In Hindu Mythology according to Purans Lord Surya enters the house of Shani dev, as Lord sun is the father of Shani dev; this is the day when father meets his son and remains for a month. This day shows the importance of relationship between father and son.
