The 6th Annual Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival April 25th, 2015

About The Kingman Island Bluegrass Festival is a well-established, highly visible annual event that highlights the local DC Bluegrass community and engages people with the revitalization of Kingman Island, and the Anacostia River. The event has grown to become the largest all local music festival in the National Capital Region, attracting over 13,000 attendees in 2014.

Originally created by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1916, Kingman Island has now been transformed into a recreational area for people of all ages to learn about the natural environment in Washington, DC. Located on the Anacostia River near the RFK Stadium and managed by Living Classrooms, Kingman Island is the perfect backdrop for DC’s largest Bluegrass music festival.

Events and Activities Music: Over 15 local bands and musicians will play throughout the festival on two stages, busking stations, and various points of interest on the island.

Food: The Festival has a long-standing tradition of promoting local food trucks and vendors. Attendees will be able to choose from over 20 of DC’s best food trucks and vendors. Beer will also be available via multiple beer trucks and pouring stations.

Kids’ Corner: Families will find a number of activities for children of all ages in our kids’ corner: face painting, live children’s music, inflatable slide, environmental education activities, and more!

Explore the Island: Explore the 35 acres that are Kingman and Heritage Islands through its 5 miles of trails. Attendee’s will also have the opportunity to discover the Anacostia River by canoe and kayak.
