Welcome Colourful, acoustic and mobile, a Honk philosophy of music making blurs the line between artist and audience, between professional and amateur. Honk bands are inclusive and community minded. They take their musical inspiration from Mardi Gras and Carnivale, and from street music gatherings across Europe and South America. They borrow a fusion of repertoire from a diverse set of music traditions; New Orleans second line, Klezmer, Balkan and Romani music; Brazilian Samba and Frevo; Jazz, funk and popular music. Havana PalavaHavana Palava is a street band that plays around Melbourne. They have bring a great carnival vibe to the festivals, sporting fabulous hot pink outfits, processing in anarchic formation, and generally making people get loosey goosey!

Folkaphonic Punk OrchestraFeaturing a rum barrel full of special musical guests, expect lots of energy, sea shanties and rollicking choruses.

Curious Rendition OrchestraPart of The Wollongong Conservatorium of Music’s community ensemble program, The Curious Rendition Orchestra was formed recently to provide music making opportunities for less experienced adult musicians, or comeback players.

Circus WowCircus WOW is a women’s community circus creating thought provoking circus and physical theatre that energetically affirms women’s lives in the Illawarra, with an irreverent and larrikin sense of humour.

The Con ArtistsFun and irreverent, Honk Oz host band, the Con Artists are a carnival of percussion, wind, brass, accordions and fiddles.

Good Tunes SessionGiving new life to good folk tunes is the aim of the Good Tunes Sessions. Led by David De Santi, accordionista from the Wongawilli Band / I Viaggiatori and The Con Artists

Hot Potato BandAnything could happen! The Hot Potato Band is an environmentally friendly roving brass band outfit with interactive properties that have been known to cause a severe case of happy fever.

InspeKtor-Gadje When this band plays, they are accompanied by a hoard of left wing woolly Charlies who seem to have nothing better to do than to dance about and enjoy themselves playing and drinking while encouraging others to do the same.

BrassholesBuilding the bridge between old and new; The Brassholes blend traditional New Orleans second line rhythms with modern day dance floor fillers and sing-a-long songs.

BeatmeistersDrawing heavily on the traditions of African drumming interspersed with Latin and Arabic influences, the Beat Meisters never fail to get the punters jumping and the good vibes pumping.

Bettina ShelkerShe is the former internationally undefeated Swiss National Boxing Champion and an internationally touring singer songwriter. She has opened for or toured with Chumbawamba, Van Morrison, Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton, Carl Verheyen and Jethro Tull.

The BottlersThe Bottlers are a hard playing, nine piece, all acoustic folk punk band hailing from Sydney

Underscore OrkestraFrom Porltand, Oregon, USA The Underscore Orkestra are guaranteed to get you up and moving whether you like to swing dance, Balkan folk dance, or just go out and shake it!!!

Wollongong Con Jazz Program The Con’s Jazz Program run by Eric Dunan is highly regarded around the country as a model for pre-tertiary jazz studies.

Joe CorreiaJoe Correia is a Sousaphone/Tuba player from Seattle. He has toured with The Underskore Orchestra, Environmental Encroachment, Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band, Harmoos, and The Hungry March Band

Junkadelic Brass BandThe Junkadelic Brass Band are like nothing else in Perth. Blending Street rhythms with New Orleans style jazz, Funk grooves, Latin flavours and hip-hop, the band is full of surprises – not the least of which is the awesome beats and rhythms from the recycled percussion section!

Ken FieldKen is a composer, saxophonist, flautist, and percussionist. Ken is on the organizing committee for the original “HONK! Festival of activist street bands”, in Somerville, MA, USA. His band, Revolutionary Snake Ensemble has received international public and critical acclaim.

Linsey PollackLinsey Pollak is well known all around Australia as a musician, instrument maker, composer, musical director and community music facilitator. While studying Macedonian bagpipes in Macedonia 20 years ago Linsey fell in love with Macedonian Gypsy Brass Band music.

Red Brigade The Red Brigade is a thrilling and playfully subversive all-girl marching band. Fitted out in full marching band regalia, The band takes it’s audience on one hell-of-a ride through dirty rock hits, balkan madness and big-bad-swingin’ funk.

Mr CuttlefishMr Cuttlefish play curiously beguiling street music, popping up when you least expect it. Playing everything from ipad to ukulele, viola to whamola, Mr Cuttlefish will create eccentric soundscapes for you.

The Purple TusksFrom Melbourne, Purple Tusks is an 8 piece party rocking band, with a massive sound that will pull you off your seat and up to the front of the dance floor!

Riff Raff radical Marching BandFormed in 2010 The Riff Raff band plays at community events, coal ports, solidarity demonstrations, artyhipsterthings, fundraisers, and on the streets!

Environmental Encroachment (reduced band)EE’s marching band has evolved as part of a new genre of music: HONK! Performances include parades, weddings, funerals,historical re-enactments, children’s shows, holiday theme parties, street busking, second-line processions, festivals, circussideshows, music for burlesque, birthdays, coronations, proms, vaudevillian skits, and synchronized swimming withsousaphones.

RuidoRuido - original contemporary flamenco with a unique twist. There are no barriers in this amazing troupe. Their show is an explosion of colour and passion that fills your senses.

Squeezebox TrioThe Squeezebox Trio (accordion, violin, guitar) are one of the newer bands on the Sydney Jazz scene. The lads bring a strong energy to the gypsy swing genre popularised by Django Reinhardt in the ‘30’s.
