Family Planning 2020: Partnering to Promote
Greater Progress
Beth Schlachter Executive Director Family Planning 2020
FP2020 GOALS
To support the rights of 120 million
additional women and girls in the
world’s poorest countries to choose
and use contraceptive information,
services and supplies
To use family planning success
to drive future momentum for
the broader Reproductive
Maternal Newborn Child and
Adolescent Health (RMNCH+A)
continuum of care.
FP2020 partners will work with commitment countries to
reach shared objectives Coordinate in-country efforts to improve contraceptive demand and contraceptive mix forecasts, which in turn can be aggregated into global demand forecasts
Mobilize financial and health system resources for contraceptives and service delivery at the country level, and increase those resource contributions over time
Identify ways to dramatically decrease contraceptive stock-outs and ensure broader access to methods preferred by women
Encourage the identification and application of best practices to drive effective scale-up of family planning service delivery
In coordination with partners (including civil society organizations), identify novel ways to improve supply and generate demand, particularly in those countries with very low modern contraceptive prevalence rates
Monitor and proactively review progress against goals and take additional action through governance and accountability processes as required
Overview | Cross-Institutional Collaboration
Faith-based ORGANIZATIONS
Long history of
engagement:
• Family planning
outreach
• Capacity building
• Service delivery
• Advocacy
• Partnerships with
secular groups
IN CONCLUSION…
• More women and girls are using modern methods of contraception than ever before
• Our community is complex – FP2020 provides a platform to reinforce one another’s efforts and pool expertise to build upon the 2012 momentum and secure family planning in the SDGs
• We need to form partnerships and linkages across diverse sources and sectors
• Data is key – we need to strengthen the evidence base for investments in family planning
• Action follows commitments – FP2020 has been catalyst for bringing new attention and action to reduce maternal mortality and increase access to modern contraception
• Moving forward, we must accelerate growth and improve program quality in order to reach our goals while ensuring progress happens through a rights-based approach
