31st Annual Dogwood Festival Honorary Chairs Bill and Sharon Taylor-Hall

The Dogwood Festival Committee chose Bill and Sharon as chairs of the Dogwood Festival to cel-ebrate the work and commitment they have provided to the vitality of the valley throughout the history of the Dogwood Festival. They will represent the festival to the community and assist in the promo-tion of events and activities throughout the run of the festival each year.

Bill Hall worked as editorial page editor of the Lewiston Morning Tribune from 1965 until 2002. He has published five books and writes a weekly column which is syndicated in 10 newspapers.

Sharon Taylor-Hall directed the Intensive English Institute at Lewis-Clark State College for 23 years, before retiring in 2006.

A sculptor, Taylor-Hall has created several public sculptures around Lewiston. The Dogwood Festival was Sharon Taylor-Hall’s inspiration and she worked with Deanna Vickers and several other Lewiston residents to make this event a reality.

DOGWOOD FESTIVAL

In its 31 years of existence, the Dogwood Festival has brought joy to many people and we are no exception. Almost every year, our family members and friends come to Lewis-ton in April to enjoy the beauty of the valley with its clouds of pink and white dogwood blooms and to take part in the many festival events. We have found that there is something for everyone — tea parties with the Dogwood Fairy for the little ones, a wine and beer party for the grown-ups, shopping, music, quilts, art, exotic foods and a walk or run along the lovely Snake River. Who could resist the Dogwood Festival?

~ Bill and Sharon Taylor Hall

Finch” was a beloved sign for the Valley. Limited edition

The Stephen Lyman Festival of Children’s Art is one of the Dogwood Festival’s oldest events. It is held in honor of Stephen Lyman, renowned outdoor artist, who died in a 1996 hiking acci-dent in Yosemite National Park. Wildlife artist Stephen Lyman was an explorer who specialized in painting the most elusive moments in nature.

Stephen attended Whitman and Webster Elementary Schools, Jennifer Junior High, and went on to graduate as Valedictorian of his 1975 Lewiston High School class. Lyman’s love of the great outdoors stemmed from a childhood spent in the Pacific Northwest, where hiking in Snake River country was a regular family ritual.Stephen enjoyed art, even as a child.

Dogwood Festival Concert featuring Shook Twins and Fruition

Dogwood Festival of the Lewis Clark Valley presents Portland bands, Shook Twins and Fruition, in concert Friday, April 24, in the Silverthorne Theatre on the Lewis Clark State College campus during Art Under the Elms. The concert starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Silverthorne Theatre with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Born and raised in Sandpoint, Idaho, Shook Twins are an Indie folk-pop band now hailing from Portland, Oregon. Identical twins Katelyn and Laurie Shook, along with Kyle Volkman and Niko Daoussis, form the core quartet. Shook Twins have been described as featuring “beautiful twin harmonies, layered upon acoustic and electric instrumentation coupled with Laurie’s inventive use of percussive and ambient vocal loops, and Katelyn’s repurposed telephone microphone, creating a unique and eccentric blend of folk, roots, groove, and soul.”Having a common love of music and life on the road, Fruition were originally brought together by the lure of adventure. For the

last five years, the Portland, Oregon, string infused quintet has racked up the miles playing sold out shows in their adopted home-town and collecting new fans across the country.Lewiston natives, Jay Cobb Anderson (lead guitar/vocals) and Keith Simon (bass) moved from Idaho to Portland with nothing but their instruments and spent their days beating the streets and their nights exploring Portland’s music scene. Joined later by Kel-len Asebroek (guitar) and Georgia-born Mimi Naja (mandolin/vocals) and Lewiston native Tyler Thompson (drums), their sound amplified and elevated them to the versatile Americana-meets-Rock n Roll enigma that they are today.

Tickets for the concert are $25 general admission, $15 LCSC student with ID, and $20 for LC faculty and staff with ID. For more information and to purchase tickets visit www.lcsc.edu/ce/ or call (208)792-2447.
