2015 rule updates shown in BOLD-Red and underlined

There have been additions and updates to this rule package for 2015 and it is solely the competitor’s responsibility to read the information presented here in order to be informed as well as be in compliance with all aspects of the rules as set forth in this document.

Notice to Competitors:

The following rules are in addition to the 2015 US Legend Cars rules package. While these rule updates are written for Speedway 660, every effort has been made to incorporate and include common rule additions used at other Maritime tracks that campaign the Bandolereo race car primarily Petty International Raceway and Scotia Speedworld.

GENERAL

1.0 Drivers must have a current year INEX membership to compete at Speedway 660 weekly racing events. A two race grace period will be allowed to allow competitors to obtain a valid membership. Membership and all other INEX information may be obtained at:

SAFETY

KILL SWITCH

2.0 Kill Switch is to be mounted on left side rear deck of interior tin. 2.1 Kill switch must shut off engine and fuel pump. (See APPENDIX”A”)

2.2 Full containment seats are recommended. 2.3 Manufactures safety belt replacement time frame (3 years) is recommended. ENGINE 2.0 Bandolero engines must be pre-registered through R&D Performance in Truro, N.S.

(See APPENDIX “B”.) for registration form. Please Print and send to R&D Performance Attention Greg MacLean. R & D Performancenter Ltd 12551 Hwy 2 Lower Onslow, Nova Scotia, Canada B6L 5E5

EXHAUST 3.0 Exhaust pipe flange may be replaced with a thicker flange not to exceed .250”.

The exhaust pipe tube length MUST NOT be altered. Original pipe length must be as INEX produced. Only ONE exhaust gasket will be allowed per pipe. This rule is to address the flange warpage of these exhaust pipes. ABSOLUTELY no other modifications allowed.

MISCELLANEOUS Speedway 660 reserves the right to all final decisions as per INEX on the interpretation of any rule or rules. Decision of track management will be final.

Speedway 660 reserves the right to confiscate any illegal parts found during any inspection as per INEX

Anything that is not specifically shown in these rules will be considered illegal. Please contact the tech director for clarification. DO NOT ASSUME! For any tech inquiries or rule clarification please contact Speedway 660 Tech Director Don Greer at [email protected]

APPENDIX “A” Bandolero Kill switch installation procedure. Written by Greg MacLean, March 30, 2014 Speedway 660 (Scotia Speedworld) Kill switch rule states that a kill switch is to be mounted on the left side rear deck of the interior tin (see pic #1), and it must shut off the engine and fuel pump.

Pic #1 ‐ Location where Kill Switch is to be mounted. The ignition system on a Bandolero car is similar to the ignition system on your hand push lawnmower. It doesn't require battery voltage to generate spark. Instead, it generates its own spark via a flywheel magnet and a set of magnetos/coils. What this means is your engine will continue to run even if you pull the cables off of the battery. To get the engine to stop running the small black diode wire from the coils must be grounded out, the same as your lawnmower. As soon as the ignition is grounded out and the engine quits, the crankcase pulse operated fuel pump will stop pumping fuel. To meet Speedway 660 (Scotia Speedworld) kill switch rule you simply have to run a wire (14‐16 gauge will suffice) from the ground.

APPENDIX “A” terminal on the engine to one of the kill switch's small terminals, then from the other small terminal on the kill switch to a good chassis ground. The engine ground terminal is located on the front right side of the motor as it sits in the car (see pic #2). The threaded stud has a #8‐32 thread. An easy way to make the connection here is to put a small wire eyelet over the stud and secure it with a second nut, preferably a nylock nut.

Pic. #2 ‐ Ignition ground terminal location. Nut size is #8‐32. The kill switch to be used should be robust enough to withstand the severe vibration present in a Bandolero car (See pic # 3 of a commonly used kill switch). If you have a kill switch with two large terminals you can use those terminals to wire up your ground circuit. If you have a kill switch with two large terminals and two smaller terminals, you can use the two smaller terminals to make your connections. It's important to understand that the kill switch's "On /Off" locations will have to have the labels reversed for a Bandolero car. The switch's normal "ON" position will actually be making a connection inside the switch to ground the ignition out, shutting the engine OFF. To get your engine to start, the kill switch will have to be switched to the normal "OFF" position. Clearly mark your switch so that "OFF" shows that the engine will shut OFF with the switch on that position.

APPENDIX “A”

Pic #3 ‐ Typical Kill switch. This one has two large terminals and two smaller terminals. Because the wire size is small you can use the two small terminals with this type of switch. There have been occasions when the magneto/coil wires have become unplugged underneath the red cooling shroud on the Bandolero engines. If this happens, even the kill switch will not shut off the engine. To address this, Speedway 660 (Scotia Speedworld) is asking all racers to install a simple spark plug wire "pull off loop" for the front cylinder and the rear cylinder (See pic #4). All this requires is two plastic ties per ignition wire. These loops will permit pulling the spark plug wires off of the sparkplug while lessening the chance of a shock to the person pulling the wires off.

Pic #4 ‐ Spark plug wire pull off loops. Install one on each of the two spark plug wires.

APPENDIX “B” Bandolero Engine Pre‐‐‐‐Registration

Please fill in information on the following form to pre-register each and every bandolero engine you intend to race this upcoming 2015 season.

A separate form must be used for each engine. Pre-registration forms mustbe returned to Greg MacLean at R&D Performancenter for processing prior to the engine being permitted torace at Maritime Bandolero events. Please get your forms completed and turned in ASAP!

You will not be permitted on the track at a race event with an engine that has not been pre-registered. Greg will provide the tech inspectors with a current list of the motors that have been pre-registered. Do not wait until the last minute to pre-register! It takes time to process the information and transfer it to the tech inspector's list.

Please print off pre-registration forms, complete all the information and scan/email back to Greg at [email protected]. Greg will email you back within a day or two confirming the information was received. If you don't get a reply back please contact Greg at R&D Performance center to see if there was a problem. Alternatively, completed forms may be mailed or faxed to:

R&D Performancenter Ltd. 12551 Hwy #2, Lower Onslow, N.S., B6L 5E5. Attn: Greg MacLean Phone (902) 893-3795. Fax (902) 895-7743.

The old excuse, "It's in the mail" does not apply here. Get your forms in early. Please note: Attempts will be made to verify the engine information with USLC International regarding the engine serial numbers, INEX seal numbers, dates, etc.

Providing false information is a serious offence and will be dealt with accordingly (i.e. suspensions from events, discarding of engine seals).

R&D Performancenter wants to work with the Bandolero racers and the tech inspectors at the participating tracks to improve upon the integrity of the Bandolero sealed engine program. A critical component of the Bandolero series is having a "level playing field" regarding engines. Tech inspection will be "stepped up" this year in an attempt to discourage individuals from gaining a competitive advantage via non approved modifications. Proper race car preparation, driver talent, and a bit of racing luck should be the factors which determine who runs near the front. This makes for great racing!

Anyone whom has purchased a used engine, and are unsure of the legality of the engine, may take it to R&D Performance center for a full inspection. If it checks out OK, or if it can be made legal (i.e. by doubling up head gaskets), it may be sealed with the new style INEX seals and registered to race.

BEWARE: Competitive engines with the old style seals will be watched very closely. These seals haven't been installed by certified engine rebuilders for years now, and are more prone to tampering than the new style seal. If your engine has the old style seals on it and it is running strong you are a probable candidate to have your engine sent to R&D Performance center for a full inspection.
