Preparation for the Word
*Call to Worship
One: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.
All: Hosanna in the highest!
One: Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
All: Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
One: Lo, your king comes to you;
All: triumphant and victorious is he,
One: humble and riding on a donkey,
All: on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
*Prayer of the Day (Unison)
We praise you, O God, for your redemption of the world through Jesus Christ. Today he entered the holy city of
Jerusalem in triumph and was proclaimed Messiah and King by those who spread garments and branches along
his way. Let these branches be signs of his victory, and grant that we who consider them once again may follow
him in the way of the cross, that dying and rising with him, we may enter into your kingdom; through Jesus
Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
*Processional Hymn #196 All Glory, Laud, and Honor
*Prayer of Confession (Unison)
Merciful God, as we enter this Holy Week, gathering at your house of prayer, we turn our hearts toward
Jerusalem, to the peace demonstrated for us and offered to us in the words and deeds, in the suffering and death,
of Jesus, your anointed One. Forgive our stubborn resistance to his work and witness; impel us by your Spirit to
follow in his way, until we enter with him into the city not made by human hands, the new Jerusalem, eternal in
the heavens, where we shall live to your praise and glory.
(Time for Silent Confession)
One: Turning to the Messiah, the people said,
All: “Amen.”
*Assurance of Pardon
*The Gloria Patri Hymnal Page 581
Passing of the Peace (11:00) (Responsive)
One: Since Christ has extended to us the peace of God, let us, as his disciples, spread his
peace to others.
The peace of Christ be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: Let us exchange signs of Christ’s peace with one another.

Sermon “In the Street”
The Reverend Doctor Christopher Crotwell
Our Response to God’s Word
*Hymn #216 Beneath the Cross of Jesus
*Affirmation of Faith - Selection from The Brief Statement of Faith (Unison)
In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the
communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship
and serve.
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to
the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and
binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the
gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain
and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life,
breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal.
With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of
God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Go, my children, with my blessing, never alone. Waking, sleeping, I am with you; you are my own.
In my love's baptismal river I have made you mine forever. Go, my children, with my blessing, you are my own.

“The Session is pleased to announce the hiring of our new Kindergarten Director, Michelle Lorio. As you will find in her brief bio, Michelle possesses a wealth of experience; she is obviously talented and intelligent. What is more, as you get to know Michelle as a person, you will find that she is kind, gracious, and fun. Michelle will begin work on May 4 and overlap with our current director, Charbea Tetzel for 3 weeks. Charbea’s last day with us will be on May 21 and then she and her family will be moving to Ohio. In the days ahead, you are encouraged to look for ways to welcome Michelle in to service and to thank Charbea for hers. Obviously, the session asks that you would join them in praying for both of these women and their families .”
Bio for Michelle Lorio
Michelle was born in Ohio but spent her formative years in Michigan and New Mexico as her family followed her father’s military career. She graduated from New Mexico State University with a B.A. in Government. Shortly after graduation she married her husband, Jamie, and moved to Washington, DC, where she worked as a paralegal for a prominent law firm. In 2005, they moved to Augusta, Ga., where she attended Augusta State University and earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration. Michelle spent the next seven years with the Lower Savannah Council of Governments. In 2012, she took a leap of faith and joined the staff at Lynne’s Kids Daycare to follow her passion for working with children.
Her husband, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana is a graduate of Louisiana Tech where he earned a B.A. in Psychology. He works for the Department of Defense and is currently earning his Master’s of Science of Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University. They have three children, Madelyn, Mason and Chase who fill every moment with joy, purpose and meaning. Madelyn and Mason both attended 3K at SAPK. The Lorio’s are proud to be a part of the Aiken Community and are members of Saint Thaddeus Episcopal Church.
In her spare time Michelle enjoys traveling, reading, playing with her kids and enjoying life to its fullest. Michelle is thrilled at the opportunity to serve as the Kindergarten Director and to be a part of the spiritual and academic growth of our students.

Save the Date - Joint Service with Friendship Baptist Church
On April 12 at 11:00 AM we will be blessed to have our partners in ministry, Friendship Baptist
Church, join us for worship here! The Rev. T. C. Edwards will be our guest preacher and the choir
from Friendship Baptist will sing. We will have the 8:45 AM service and Sunday School as usual.
A potluck luncheon will follow the service in the FLC Gym. The congregation is asked to bring
an entrée and side dish to share. Please bring enough for our family and the Friendship family.
The Deacons will provide the drinks and desserts. Please mark your serve ware and plan to pick it
up after the dinner. Feel free to use disposable serve ware.
Note from First Presbyterian Church regarding Maundy Thursday: This year at our Maundy Thursday service on April 2 at 7:00 PM, you are invited to experience foot washing. Foot washing is an ancient ritual of remembrance and a humble opportunity for service which is very appropriate for worship on the night in which Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and gave us a new command. Foot washing will be available for those who wish to participate during the half-hour before the service and the half-hour following the service. We will have three stations at the front of the sanctuary and we invite you to come forward with a partner for this experience. The front pews will be reserved for you to use removing socks and shoes - and at each station there will be stools for you to sit on, a pitcher of water you can pour over the others’ feet, a bowl in which the water will fall into, and towels with which you can dry. If you need further instructions, each station will have a host or a hostess to guide you through it.
I hope you will join us in foot washing this year - either as we prepare for worship or as we leave to continue the journey of Holy Week!

Christ Caring for People through People
That's the motto of Stephen Ministry. The Stephen Minister's role is to bring God's love into the lives of people who are going through a difficult time or experiencing a crisis. What do Stephen Ministers do? They listen to you, care for you, support and encourage you, and pray with and for you. And in the midst of this confidential, one-to-one, caring relationship, God's healing love comes pouring through.
If you or someone you know is facing a crisis--large or small--and could benefit from the caring presence of a Stephen Minister, talk to our Stephen Leader Lisa Lader (642-6840 or cell 439-2004), Pastor Dr. Christopher Crotwell, Associate Pastor Rev. Erin Gaston or Parish Associate Rev. Judy Bowling (648-9574). Our Stephen Ministers are ready to care for you!
Pictorial Directory:
You will be pleased to know that our church is now in the process of producing a new Pictorial Directory. This will be an attractive full-color membership directory with portraits of our church families. It will also contain a roster (names, addresses and phone numbers) of all our members, whether they are pictured or not. We want your family’s portrait in the directory so please don’t fail to get on schedule.
Family portraits taken for the directory will feature the Electronic Imaging System, so you will make only one visit to the church for photography and viewing your portraits. Each family photographed will receive a free 8 x 10 color portrait plus a free copy of the finished directory. Pictures will be taken April 9, 10, 11, 12, and April 23, 24, 25 and 26. Our Purpose…”Opening Doors to Serve Christ”
WELCOME It was the children on Palm Sunday who cheered the loudest. They loved him simply, because they knew how much he loved them. If by chance your faith has lost its childlike simplicity, we hope that this hour of worship will restore it to you. And we offer our friendship to help in the restoration.
NURSERY AND CHILDREN’S CHURCH Infants are welcome in the Nursery during our 8:45 AM and 11:00 AM worship services and during our 10:00 AM Sunday School hour. During the 8:45 AM worship service children are invited to go to the Nursery or stay in the worship service. During the 11:00 AM worship service, 3 years-1st grade children are welcome to join our Children's Church Worship program following the Children's Moment. Chaperones will escort the children to the Fellowship Hall and you may pick your child up there after the worship service.
