Relocation to Toledo

Established the Libbey Brand Name Throughout America

The Brand was Born

Libbey moved the company to Toledo, OH in 1888 and

thus, the "Glass City" was born.

Libbey built a complete model glass factory at the World's

Columbian Exhibition in Chicago. As part of the World's

Exhibition,Libbey Glass created a spun glass dress for Princess

Eulalia of Spain.The success of this exhibit established the

Libbey brand name throughout America.

The company changed its name to The Libbey Glass

Company in 1892.

Walt Disney paid a visit to Libbey Glass to see his

Snow White decorated glassware. This same year,

Libbey was the first to create machine blown glass

stemware in 1938.

Libbey was famous for its high quality cut glass during

1800s. In 1904, Libbey showed its largest manual sculpture

glassware in "World's Fair" in St.Louis. Its texture's

same year,Libbey produced the light bulb for GE.

The Advent of Elegant One Piece Stemware

Libbey owned the recipe for over one hundred years and is reputed in the industry. Products produced with Libbey's recipe are pure, lead-free and do not contain any toxic substance, with clear and long lasting color and effectively improved strength.

In 1970, Libbey successfully developed and launched the

world's first automatic one piece stemware manufacturing

equipment and patented it. Traditional technique required

an unavoidable seam between cup and leg, which would

result in increased damage during catering operation.

One piece technique has avoided the breakage rate.

In 1901, Michael Owens, an engineer in Libbey successfully developed the first automatic line for manufacturing of bottles. This landmark invention greatly improved the productivity and standardization of glassware manufacturing and paved foundation for its industrialization and provided the premise for family popularization of glassware.

In 2012, Sonoma stemware was launched worldwide.

This line was the first example of FINEDGE products

successfully produced in Libbey China. FINEDGE is a

process that enables a smoother and finer rim on blown

glassware.

In 1996, Libbey was the first to successfully develop

the heat Strengthening technique, that

solved the problem of fly-away glass breakage in

traditionally toughened glassware during breakage.

They are super tough and safe to use.

In 2015, Libbey China successfully innovated elegant one

piece stemware. The series of product offset the lack of

elegancy of a traditional one- piece stemware, likewise

the lack of strength of traditional elegant stemware. They

combine elegancy with durability thus meet the bidirectional

end-users demands of elegancy and durability of stemware.

The Advent of Sheer Rim/D.T.E. TechniqueLibbey successfully developed the unique technique of Sheer

Rim/D.T.E. which effectively resolved the problem of frequent

rim breakage.

Libbey’s tumblers and stemware are created through a special heating and rapid cooling process after the glass is formed. Libbey’s heat-treated glassware offers increased resistance to thermal and mechanical shock and is recommended for fast service cycle operations.

Libbey’s SheerRim/D.T.E. (Dura Temp Edge) stemware and tumblers feature a beadless edge which is first cracked-off then polished to produce a fine, yet durable edge.

A laser etch on the inside bottom creates a constant stream of bubbles,enhancing aromas and flavors.

Handling glassware for safety and profitabilityone of most important merchandising tools used by the owner or operator to present meals and beverages to guests is proper glassware.To maintain the life of this investment,it needs to be treated and handled carefully.Improved handling means less breakage and damage,which translates into higher productivity and lower incidences of injury accidents.The tips included in this guide are designed to improve handling of glassware by reducing the most common causes of damage-mechanical shock and thermal shock.

1.Thermal ShockTherma l shock i s t he resu l t o f g l ass experiencing a sudden temperature change.Glass holds temperature, and rapid change in temperature can cause enough stress to result in breakage.For example,a glass that has held ice cannot go directly into the dishwasher;a glass warm from the dishwasher should not go directly into service; and cold water or

2.Mechanical ShockMechanical shock in glassware is the direct result of contact with anoter object,such as a spoon,a beer tap,another glass,or a piece of china.This kind of contact can cause a minute abrasion,invisible to the eye,but a source of weakness in the glass,making it more susceptible to breakage from impact or thermal shock.

washed items from going derectly into service. Place guides on scrap tables for busboys to place glass,china,and

flatware in separate areas. Check dishwasher te,perature twice daily. Replace worm glass washer brushes. Instuct busboys to BE QUIET.No one wants to eat in a noisy place.

This will cut down on breakage of glassware,as well as help create a pleasant,quiet atmosphere.

Never put cold water or ice into a warm or hot glass. Bus glassware dirctly into racks,or use divided bus trays with flatware

baskets. Color code racks for different glass,china,and flatware items. Remove severely abraded glass from service.

NEVER pick up glasses in bouquets

NEVER contact glasses with the beer tap

ALWAYS use a plastic scoop NEVER scoop ice with glasses.

ALWAYS have an adequate back-up supply of glassware for rush periods
